I was hoping someone could tell me about some magic site with a magic button that would do it for me without me actually having to put some effort into some coursework for a change. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
Just stick in the artist name and it does it for you, from last.fm.
Quite slow, but at least it's automatic... doesn't work for all bands though - I just tried Enter Shikari cos I wanted to laugh at how young they all were, but it wasn't having any of it.
Yo La Tengo fans, though, are apparently 23 on average, whilst P!ATD fans are 17. LOLZ, etc. Tells you gender as well - eg, nearly all Britney fans seem to be male.
Of course, it's somewhat skewed by the demographics of last.fm users in general...
That way you can usual 'realistic' evidence to back it all up?
ie:
The nme.com audience is made up of key demographic groups that can be difficult to target through other media: -
65% Male*
50% 16-24*
23% 25-34*
79% ABC1*
You could
look at a profiles on there and on here, do some maths and get a median age.
I'd discount the people who say they are 100+ plus though. That might sink your battleship.
I considered that

go to the band's messageboards
and measure instances of:
txt speak
gratuitous use of emoticons
comic sans

Stick your head in the oven at Gas Mark 8 for 30-40 minutes, turning once.
I'll give it a go
I need to do naked squat thrusts in the garden for 25 mins to warm up first though, right?
Seriously though
I can't think of one good reason why you'd need to know this sort of stuff.
true
neither can i.
Coursework
I'm doing a bit of coursework looking at how bands are commercially marketed to their audience
You could use

Radiohead average age: 28
I can safely say that I am half of that age; I must appear very boring to my peers.
It told me 22 for Radiohead
Obviously not the most accurate way to do it...
Universal
Have a huge database called ViceVersa. Are this band on any of their imprint/subsiduary labels?
i think
you should just guess - it cant be that hard.
I laughed out loud!
HA!
^this is oh so very true it hurts
Maybe best way round is to look at who band is being promoted too?

I assume
the other 27% are under 16..?
The other 27% is split between those under 16 and those who are 35 or over.
I think you missed my joke
...
It wasn't funny...
