I moved there nearly five years ago because it appeared to be some sort of mecca (Fig 4.0, Bilge Pump, Brown Owl), and it pretty much still is. I have been to some amazing house shows.

because I don't live in Leeds, and therefore wouldn't know. I just thought that the general consensus was that the Leeds music scene is massive, with loads of shit. But different opinions I suppose.
Anyway it's stupid trying to argue about it, because people from Leeds/Yorkshire will say "yeah maaan, best scene in the country, all my mates are in bands!!!" and everyone else won't know because they don't live in Leeds.

it's not "all my mates are in bands"; just a case of most night there's a good gig. some really good stuff and lots of different genres. it's bound to be like that because of all the young people and people who are really into their music i guess.

that Leeds is like the Mecca of the north of England, and fucking EVERYONE goes to uni there.
And that's probably
why it has such a good music scene... It's preserved by the students.

i've only lived in leeds 6 months
i used to live in halifax, where i thought all the local bands were absolutely shite. i said "something for everyone" because the types and genres of bands in leeds vary absolutely loads. None of the bands i listed sound ANYTHING like each other, but they all play gigs together
leeds genuinely has some of the best bands in the UK
they only bands i'd say that top them are copy haho, danana and this aint vegas, all of whom im hopefully seeing on monday.
leeds has some awesome venues as well
chatham/rochester/kent
nothing really happens in this devoid-of-all-culture shithole, but there are some excellent bands and sometimes tap n' tin does a good show or two.
kid harpoon, sparrows, thesaurus club (which is basically the bassist from sparrows and two girls), lakes, slotcar, upc downc and i think some others who i can't name off the top of my head.
