Really strong follow up to Making Dens isnt it? I mean it's much more consistent, hookier, more interesting and feels more like an album. I'm honestly quite suprised how strong this is, thoughts?
Still no Zootime though :(

Twenty One
seriously, kill me now
'Two Doors Down'
that's all I have to say.
right
here's a thing for you. Great song, but how can she be the girl next door if she's two doors down?
side door? fake door?
trap door? odds/evens street numbering?
"I think
I'm in love with the girl kept under the trap door."
Doesn't have the same ring to it. I take your point.
back door?
Crap band.
I doubt it'll do very well, because their first album came out just before indie was hijacked by twelve year olds.
Your just pissed off because you
said that they were a flash in the pan, and everyone else knew that they were not.
Now you are resorting to saying that they are shit.
theres a film called "21"
coming out 18 days after the album
hasn't the dad left?
wasn't he the talented one?
he still writes with the band but doesn't play live anymore
i don't think they're new stuff is anywhere near as strong as the old songs though. Making Dens was a really great album and although they're all nice and poppy, none of the new stuff strikes me as being that great.
Having said that, i havn't heard 21 so i'll wait and see. :)
As an MJ's fanboy
Its a good record but its nowhere near as good as Making Dens. It's very backwards, Making Dens flowed brilliantly and the songs were deep and there was alot going on. The new record its just a load of pop songs, very good pop songs but it just doesn't feel like a Mystery Jets record.
They used to have be origenal and not like anything around at the time now there just any other Indie band with dance influences. That being said Vield In Grey, Umbrellahead, 21 and Young Love are very good songs but as a friend of mine who saw them with me at Puregroove yesterday said its a record for the 14 year olds.
is it really possible
for it to not "feel like a mystery jets record," when they have only had one previous album?
and 3 eps!!1!
indeedy!
NAME THEM
YR NT A REEL FAN!!!
Well
All there songs previously had a feel to them which you could associate with them which you can't do on the new record. You can't compare the earlier matterial to the new album.
I understand bands need to keep there sound fresh but hmm I just hoped they would start doing more stuff like Moonlight Satelite instead of pop songs.
moonlight satellite!
apart from my vocals
moonlight sattelite is poop.
did i mention i did some vocals on it?
anyway, if the new record had my vocals on it theyd get dropped. or something.
but considering that the first track off their first release is a ska pop song about mozart and bob marley meeting in heaven, i dont think saying that pop songs isnt what they do is fair.
ps i did some vocals on one of their tracks once
but anyway!
i just finally got the full album. hideaway sounds so good!
i've been resisting the d/l
i honestly don't know why, cos i freakin love the sampler innit.
: (
I conseed dammit you are right and that song in question which I am not going to attempt to spell isn't to far way from Young Love and some other new songs. What did you do on Moonlight? I disagree that its poop it would be right up there with the likes of The Tale with my favourite Mystery Jets songs.
Also
Yes Hideway is great.
theres that stupid bit towards the end
where its a theremin, three people screaming and a sample of william burroughs talking. i am one of the screamers.
the very fact that theres a bit with a theremin, three people screaming and a sample of william burroughs talking is proof enough that it isnt a good song :) :)
also, it has the same chords as Polly by Nirvana.
also, yeah its really good and an integral part of my childhood
i love the tale tho. somehow it makes me think of trail of dead. i dont know why.
and its called rastamadeus. rasta! amadeus!

Don't really agree about the record being for 14 year olds. Young Love for example is just a great pop song. Nuffing wrong with that!
I was really hoping
this was going to be a Blonde Redhead cover :(
Had the album sampler for about a month....
And I loved it almsot too much, but i don't think the rest of the album adds all that much. I was expecting great things....
So far
brilliant. I can't wait to listen to it more, the songs have that quality about them
young love is amazing
Well
Think someone has already said it's one for the fourteen year olds, that must be why I've suddenly started liking them after profoundly disliking them for a long time. I'm a big grown up 14 year old. I'm very happy they've gone pop.
half pop/half not is closer
for every 'young love' or '2 doors down' there is a 'bunhouse' or 'first to know'
Very surprised by this
Don't think I expected the overall level of quality. Urgent and memorable songs of very high calibre. They will become a national treasure if they keep the songwriting consistent at this sort of level. One of the albums of the year, no question.
