I'm aware everyone's pissed off about George Lamb, but this isn't about that.
Basically, I've rarely listened to BBC6, I listen and get recommendations for mnusic mostly from podcasts, blogs, here and word of mouth/flyers. Could anyone recommend me any shows on BBC6 that are worth listening to because I'd rather like to start, obviously I'll be giving Lamb a wide berth. Cheers.
Gideon Coe
right now
^this
plus Marc Riley Wednesday to Friday 7pm.
Gideon Coe
The weekend slots with Adam and Joe and Russell Howard are good (but not really for the music they play)
Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone is good for more unusual music. My flatmates call it the weird music time.
cheers!
Will start listening to Gideon Coe right : )
*right now
bollocks
is there
still the stuart marconie freak zone thing?
and does craig charles still have his funk show?
people need to learn to love the funk
Marc Riley
definitely. his is my current favourite radio show.
guy garvey
he's got a nice show on sunday nights
Freak Zone
is still going, and is by far the best programme on 6music. That and Late Junction on Radio 3 is quite enough music radio, otherwise it's Radio 4 all the way.
Guy Garvey is a delight
and I don't even like Elbow :-)
Yeah-
Freak Zone is great, and the Funk show always surprises me by being presented by Craig Charles and actually quite good.
funk show
no no no nooooooooooooooooo!
The funk show
is the best programme on 6 Music, followed by Marc Riley, Tom Robinson, Steve Lamacq, Don Letts & Gideon Coe. The 6 Mix can be quite good too - depends who's putting it together.
Adam and Joe, 9 - 12 AM Saturday
Steve Lamaq 4pm weekdays
basically any time except when George Lamb is on
Russell Howard
Russell Howard Sundays 10am-1pm. Funny guy with his mate Jon Ritchardson.
Also Roundtable
with Steve Lamaq at 6pm on thursdays
Yes
Adam and Joe mix comedy and music successfully. Unlike Russell Howard - which is galling because he's a brilliant comedian in his own right.
i've only heard it a few times
but i didnt like the Russell Howard show much. Occasionally it was funny, but it was mostly spoilt by his even-more-annoying-than-Ricky-Gervais' laughing. i think he must eat about 10 bags of skittles before his show.
I love Adam and Joe though, song wars and text the nation. 'The nations favourite feature'
Yes the Freak Zone is
possibly the best Music Show on radio. Actually I can think of nothing else that comes close. It's the best music based show on Radio. Period:)
5-8 on a Sunday afternoon.
Worth it alone for the musings of Professor Justin Spear.
I kinda like Adam and Joe as well.... and the woman on before. Nemone? I listen as I'm doing the housework on a Saturday morning. Other than that I listen to Radio 4.
Anyone,,
catch a young irish musician talking on BBC6music last night called Ain?
Was meant to listen but had to snap so just wondered.
Adam and Joe everytime
Quality
fuck me
I'm onto my second night of listening to Gideon (thanks guys, great recommendation). Anyway, I'd never heard George Lamb before, but they just played a minute long trailer for his show and that alone made me want to set my laptop and speakers a-blaze and throw them out of my bedroom window in punishment for inducing his snivelly, mockney tones on my ears. AND THAT WAS JUST ONE MINUTE.
He really must be terrible.
Steven Merchant
It's Steven Merchant.
Martin Freeman
has stood in on some shows lately, with his partner, and they've been great.
Even Teletext's Planet Sound had a big anti-Lamb article yesterday...
well....
marc reilly is tops, then gideon goe on listen again during the day.
extra special shouts go to Freak Zone which is superlative and the Funk show.
i started listening to guy garvey as he was recommended so often. it was very good indeed.
its such a shame r6 has gone right royally down the pan daytime. only makes me think how unbelievably lucky we all were when jupitus>goe>mcglynn was on.
