I made a playlist today for a DiSer in exchange for a supercool one he made me. The tape had multicoloured writing on it! Ace. Now I just have to get it burned, put onto tape, and sent in the post.

what I mean by two sides on CD is two 'moods'(sorry). I really hate putting around 20 songs on a CD without a break of some kind as it's really hard to make them follow on from each other, unless you're a superstar DJ or whatever.

i just use really long songs
i put diamond sea on douchbags, and thats about 25 minutes long. its easier with noise/post rock really

All the tracks I like are about three minutes long. Maybe I can alternate between post-rock and garage-rock.
that might confuse the post rock thing though
cos it would go quiet loud quiet loud loud quiet. or something. but yeah, sonic youth and such alike are also good for 5/6 minute long songs. i really want to make a cd using all my reallly long songs. it would only have 3 or 4 tracks on it.

The Diamond Sea was the one song of yours i already knew, so it didn't have quite the effect it deserved. Brilliant song though..

but at the same time, it did its job. making whole cds of stuff that people hadnt heard could ust result in mental compilations. i often wonder wether its better to do rounded ones or just loads of new stuff..... oh the dilemma.
if you can introduce the person
to loads of great stuff they've never heard of before then you've done well. But in the modern internet centric global meeja love-in that's pretty difficult, particularly when you have borderline mainstream tastes like myself
speaking from a recent experience
a friend recently made me a compilation of 7inch records and I already had four of the things that he put on it (on albums). It was kind of disappointing, but he also put a couple of things on it that I'll never be able to get hold of (probs because they were rare 7 inches- not sure if the same rule applies to CDs).
