so i got beaten up by some violent drunk guy last night. first time i've taken a proper beating too. now i have a nice big black eye and cut on my nose, as well as various other bruises and bumps.
and the funny thing? i have this career fair this afternoon as part of my masters course where basically a bunch of guys from the energy industry are coming specifically to talk to us and about jobs when we finish and stuff. and i look like a fucking thug. timing!
anyone else been beaten up recently? what are the odds on the police actually prosecuting this guy given that it was caught on camera and i can describe him fairly well? if he was - what would be the punishment?
piczz?
Man, that's awful. I haven't ever been beaten up and I hope not to be
How did this come about? What a fucking cunt.
Glad to hear it all sounds like stuff that will heal up okay.
:(
I;ve never been beaten up either
d'you wanna fight?!
how did it happen?
Did he just start on you?
That sounds horrible.
I've never even been punched, even when I've deserved to be (ie quite often)
ugh :(
this happened recently to a friend of mine.. a very tall, large friend! he got head-butted in the face and had his nose broken. i'm not sure what would happen to your attacker if he was prosecuted.. was it just totally random?
my friend told me about two people that got stabbed while they were walking.. some guy and his girlfriend attacked by a bunch of 'youths'.. for no reason..
i guess you're lucky that it wasn't worse but 'lucky' is probably the wrong word..
big guys
usually get started on more, its seen as some kind of challenge.
not really.
I'm big and people tend to avoid me.
Maybe I'm scary looking though. A little girl sat next to me on the tube, looked at me and ran to sit on her dads lap.
Made me laugh anyway..
:( *hug*
Were you with other people? Didn't anyone try and stop him?
Yup
at the amnesty international thing
no where near as bad as you, and i hadnt been punched in the face in a long time, years, i forgot how much it hurts and how long it hurts for after
I got beaten up a few years ago for apparently being gay
I'd say unless this guy is a repeat offender type, he isn't likely to get caught but I could be completely off the mark.
I recently had to an official, important interview/meeting thing with a bruised and cut up face and yeah, it isn't much fun. Hope your face clears up soon!
Say that
you're a rugby player. Its the height of the season, and a valid reason.
^this
I've heard this is a valid distraction.
See this

Rugby's lowest moment, he shouldve been banned for life.
that is disgusting
did he get a criminal conviction for that?
No
If memory serves me correct he got an 8 week ban. O'Gara was out for 18 months with a fractured eye socket. Very nearly gave up rugby.
It came from Eddie Jones saying to provincial players they'd be looked upon favourably for Australia caps if they fucked the Lions up before the tests. McRae's next cap was against Ireland at Lansdowne Road where he had to run off the pitch and ran out of the stadium still in his kit because he feared for his life
Did McRea even play tests?
I didn't think he was an international - I remember him facing O'Gara in the HEC when he moved to the Premiership (Gloucester?) but that Ireland story sounds a bit far fetched.
I'm pretty sure he played 15 for a home test against Ireland
but I'm prepared to be proven wrong
McRae's 8 week ban
amounted to a no game ban as it was the Australian close season. What a useful ban.
That's the one thing I hate about rugby bans is they often make no sense
For example, in this year's Heineken Cup, Perry Freshwater smashed Keiran Roche in the face. Freshwater missed 3 weeks, 3 weeks that included no Heineken Cup games. Roche meanwhile has only just got his eyesight back
Sorry to hear that, it sounds rubbish.
You'd hope the police would be able to do something if it was on camera and there were witnesses. One of my sisters friends got beaten up by some chump who couldn't handle his drink in a case of mistaken identity- he pressed charges, apparently the guy had a couple of previous assault convictions and got sent down and had to pay compensation.
Luckily I've never been in a fight, I don't think I look like the type who would attract aggro. Touch wood.
sounds awful!
hope you feel better!
good luck with the interview, i'm sure they'd understand if you told them the truth...
its a long story but i'll indulge you lovely people
i was out with my girlfriend for her birthday last night, with a bunch of other friends and stuff. we went to Belushi's bar in covent garden.
at some point in the evening i noticed this guy going over to our corner, and taking a jacket off the jacket pile and starting to make off with it. i had just put this jacket on the pile myself for a friend, so i was sure it wasn't his. so i went up to him and (politely) told him that it wasn't his. he was sure it was, bt after a bit of talk i persuaded him it wasn't. so he then told me to go find his from the pile and then he would give me the jacket back. this sounded dodgy to me so i persuaded him to give me the jacket while i went and looked for his.
so i went and looked for ~5mins, but there was nothing matching his description there, and the bottom jacket of the pile was my girlfriend's so i was pretty sure his jacket wouldn't be in with ours.
so i went back and told him it wasn't there, and maybe he should go look somewhere else (again - very politely), at which point he started getting lairy and accusing me of messing him about and stealing his jacket, and starting raising his finger towards my face and stuff. so i tapped on the shoulder of my friend who was standing next to me and indicated this guy to him. my friend is a pretty big beefy guy, so when he stepped in this dude took it down a notch. he was still being really aangry towards me though, accusing me of stealing his jacket and being 'a fucking liar' when i told him that he, in fact, was the one who was stealing jackets (again this was very matter of fact, and not aggressive).
so eventually he backed off when we persuaded him we really didn't have his jacket and he should go look elsewhere.
then i went and told some other friends (including the guy whose jacket was nearly stolen) what had happened, and we agreed to keep and eye on this guy to make sure he didn't cause any trouble or steal any other jackets.
so then a bit later he seemed to be moving off, after having a cheeky look at a couple of other people jackets but having no luck getting away with them, when i saw him go up to our table and ask one of the girls by the coat pile to pass him one as if it was his. so i then pointed this out to the same big friend of mine who was nearby and he stepped in and told the guy to leave i think, which he did, although he was a bit angry.
so then i figured the threat had passed, and about 20 minutes later i decided i needed to take my girlfriend home as she was really drunk and tired, so i let people know we were leaving and went.
so we get to the tube station (covent garden) and see the lift is there and we are the last people in. when we get to the bottom (and the doors open on the other side) i notice this guy is in the lift and he has clearly spotted me. so everyone piles out of the lifts, and we are left cornered inside by this guy who is quite clearly still pissed off about me 'messing him about' earlier.
so he starts telling me how i'm 'not so cocky now without all your mates behind you' and i'm just trying to calm him down and diffuse the situation, then he just starts laying into me. i'm just trying to defend myself and keep my girlfriend out of the way of him (she kept trying to get involved so i had to keep pushing her away!) and eventually i kind of rugby tackled him to the ground and someone must have heard me shouting for help because this other guy turns up to see whats going on. i suppose he then figured i wasn't worth pursuing any further (this bits a bit hazy - i was a bit out of it!) and made off towards the platforms leaving me dripping blood from my nose.
so then i went upstairs and spoke to the security guys in the tube office and they phoned the police and i gave a statement and stuff. but it was all caught on camera and was completely unprovoked so hopefully the cunt gets caught.
ps oooh bigger text!
wow thats really long.
i'm looking forward to having to tell that story about 30 times this afternoon!
anyone caught any good ideas for reasons why my face is fucked up that make me somewhat heroic, but are also short to tell??
Just get that ^ story printed on a T-shirt
and wear it this afternoon
XXXXXXXL size?
gangsta!
Sounds like a maniac :(
Sounds like a thieving cunt
who got rumbled and took affront to his criminal exercise. Grade A toss pot, only hope is that one day he decides to pick on someone who smacks several shades of shit out of him
makes me..
want to buy one of those phone tasers of the web.
That guy sounded like a twonk
if he's trying to steal jackets chances are he's done that kind of thing before, and might already have a record.
yeah that sucks
Punishment depends on how badly injured you are
By your description I'd say he'd be up for ABH - 3-6 months but more importantly looks fucking terrible on your record so no one will employ the cunt.
Hope you're ok pal. Getting smacked in the face proper smarts
is that aggravated bodily harm?
what are the scales on those things? like whats the difference between grievous assault, common assault etc? anyone know?
Actual bodily harm
the type of assault is generally dependent on the injuries caused.
i think i'm pretty lucky not to be more seriusly injured actually
i've got a big black eye and cut and bruises and stuff, but i don't think anything is broken. my jaw hurts when i open it wide, but all ok aprt from that.
my flatmate reckons i've got a good strong jaw on me and should consider a career in boxing a la homer.
i'm still surprised i've got all my teeth and my nose isn't broken or something.
did you get any punches in?
hard to say
maybe towards the end when it was more of a scuffle, but i certainly didn't land any good ones. i'm just not the type...
fair enough
in hindsight (which obviously won't help) you should have just told the bouncers/staff at the bar that the bloke was trying to steal jackets
we did actually
so they were watching him when he left at the end, but obviously there was no-one else around when he started on me, which i certainly hadn't foreseen!
Just carry a bowling-ball in a hold-all around with you
You'll look like you've carried out a 'hit', and have kept the severed head. Maybe.
plus - a useful weapon!
SHUT THE FUCK UP, DONNY!
I'd prefer one of these.......

*the soft porno soundtrack is somewhat out of place here*
Sorry to hear that man....
a friend of mine was beaten up following an altercation in Belushi's last summer. There's something about Covent Garden bars that attracts lowlife.
that's awful
Maybe an ice pack might deflate the swelling.
You should have punched
the twat.
that's horrible
I actually had a very close call last night though.
I was walking along the pavement when two guys wanted to take up the whole pavement. I kept walking with thinking one would move, he didn't so I did at the last minute just brushing one of them as I walked into the road.
Shouting started I just kept walking.
I didn't brush on purpose either. dickheads.
sorry you were not as fortunate as me :(
I hate it when people do that........
I used to step aside, now I just plough through the middle of them.
Yeah
I did think about that but I could see the way this guy was posturing himself he was looking for something.
I just went home and watched The Untouchables instead :)
:( sorry to hear that lovely
- what an utter wanker :(
