Who knows about bass amps?

If you had a rather decent 2x15 Ashdown cab that apparently has 600w something and 900w something else but you didn't have a lot of money, what head would you get for it?

maybe a second hand

MAG series Ashdown head?
you'd be all matching and everything!
either way i reckon second hand is the way to go.

It means you can kinda afford something better than yr budget if you know what i mean?

Whats your budget?

Don't really

want to spend more than 200wigwams. Do you know a good place to get second hand gear? Ebay is being lame.

God I hate Ashdown

I've had nothing but trouble with my amp. It's been to the factory for (supposed) repairs 4 times in 4 years and is still really temperamental. I only wanted to support British industry :(

sorry that's not actually related

I just wanted to whine!

thats a shame man

i've got a mag 300 combo and its second hand, had it for a couple of years now and have had no problems whatsoever.

i'd say vandelay, just grab yrself something second hand that isnt a behringer, ibanez, or...maybe crate, and you should be fine.

.

that happened to my gallien kreuger (the mb150 combo) . though actually now it's pretty much a whole lot better. i think i was always pushing it too hard as the speaker is 90W and the amp is 150

bit silly if you ask me. it's a beautiful amp though, when it works proper

...

Ooh, I was seriously considering this exact issue about a year or so ago.

I didn't buy anything in the end, but I'd gotten the options down to:

- Ampeg SVT (second hand, obvs) - those 80s models are heavy as hell. Physically and sonically.
- Trace Elliot GP 300w
- Can't remember the model, but Laney make good 300w bass heads for cheap.

stealthy speaks the truth

Laney are good value for money.

Trace Elliots are lovely

SUNN 200S

These heads are cheap when you can find them. I've been looking for one myself. It would be cool with your cab cause the SUNN cab for this head is a 2x15 and SUNN does crush the rest. Unfortunately bass rigs are not a high priority for amp companies, I think that's why so many players just say fuck it and get Ampeg SVT.

Bassy

Gallien Krueger 800RBs are nice. Acoustic Amps are surprisingly nice if you can find one. What kind of bass are you using/tone you're goin' for?
