I'm going for an interview with them next week and I'm trying to get my head round where they stand dans la music industry. I know theres Metropolis and they represent the artists, ie like an agent, so do LiveNAtion represent the venues? And they've recently done a deal with Madonna for her tourng, so how does that fit into the grand scheme of things.

Any help would be appreciated.

metropolis are kind of a mid-level promotion company

livenation are uber worldwide evil.

they're a spinoff

from Clear Channel.

LiveNation

are live event (not just music, at least globally) promoters, they put shows on. they also own a large number of venues in the US.

the Madonna deal is a new one, they're going to be booking her tours and releasing her albums and taking a cut of the revenue from the whole lot in exchange.

they also

own a load of UK venues. In Manchester alone they control the Apollo, Opera House, Palace. They are just the big venues.

uh huh

Metropolis dont represent the artist like an agent, all national promoters work in a silmilar way (live nation, sjm, metropolis) and promote artists in small clubs often at a loss so they can promote all future gigs with that artist as an investment
They will do this by:
outbidding local promoters for a hot artist
putting forward huge guarantees for london shows, making large amounts in the regionals while also engaging themselves to agents, on a "well If you want this amount for london...I'll have to do Bristol, Exeter, Norwich, Sheffield and Cambridge etc"
I'd say that Live Nation were the biggest of the bunch, SJM and Metropolis trailing behind.
Some artists/bands won't play for them because the quality of shows is sometimes dubious depending on who the local representive and who the artist is. Madonna obviously will get anything she wants, but a lower-level band could land up with a couple of beers, and a bucket of water.
I'd love to work for a major... but to a certain extent it does require you to sell your soul a little bit.

I work for Live Nation..

..you coming for an interview at Argyll Street? Apart from the stigma of being uber worldwide evil its a good laugh with the added bonus of lots of shows you'll be able to go to.

yeah Argyll St.

Is a marketing internship. You've rumbled my efforts at research haha

I know a nice

Lady who works for live nation. With red hair.

I used to work in regent arcade house, on the 5th floor, but they moved my company. Good £3.50 fry up round the corner.

Good luck with the interview.
