I received an offer from Manchester today for English literature. AAB.
It sounds like a really good university.
My dilemma: GoLOLldsmiths, or Manchester for first choice. I'm swaying towards Goldsmiths.
Anybody else have all their offers?

Manchester!
Im going to the City College there or MMU
WHY DONT YOU
JUST FUKKA YOURSELF, GEEK
Yah.
Leeds must've been impressed with my PS, as they threw me the most generous offer ever seen: BBB.
Goldsmiths: ABB
Sheffield: AAB
Newcastle: ABB
Not interested in Newcastle or Sheffield at all.
I can't do Goldsmiths cos I'm not rich either.
where do you want to go?
Leeds for sure.
I'll conquer it.
aceeee
i'm back in september. PARTYTIME.
*
3rd year so maybe part time partytime.
To be fair
Goldsmiths is in one of the cheaper areas of London. But yeah, it's still well expensive living there.
...
Don't have to. Just rent a pokey flat in some godawful field in the middle of the Docklands wastelands and commute. That area of London's pretty cheap... well, okay, not if you're not earning money, but that's what sponging off your parents is for, right?
Leeds is (was?) great.
They've got (had?) the longest corridor in the world! Isn't that enough???
Oh man!
And here I was thinking it was the Belgian airport!
Except I guess an entire terminal doesn't really count as a corridor. I think we still have the longest... 'building' or something.
let me be the first scottish person to smugly say:
unconditional :D
Yeah but
you have the disadvantage of going to a Scotch University.
Edinburgh, glasgow and st andrews are all really good
Everything else... meh
But still, i've got unconditional to edinburgh. Got rejected completely from bristol and manchester, though. How does that even work? You'd think they'd at least give me a high conditional.
English unis are so biased towards scots qualifications.
yeah but
i have the advantage of not paying tuition fees.
so i win.
Oh yeah, we also don't have to pay some endowment fee or some shit anymore
Go overly ambitious and unrealistic scottish government! High five!
To do history...
Exeter: AAA
York: AAB
They're my first and reserve.
Nice
my friend went to Exeter a couple of days ago and said it was really nice there.
exeter's the epitome of jack wills
posh rugby boy types
not trying to knock it if thats what your like but just thought i should let you know.
There were a fair few of them when I went...
But there were plenty who weren't. I was happy with it.
theres lots of normal people too
you get used to avoiding the rahs.
Exeter's AAA now??
Uh, they kinda have a high opinion of themselves, no?
They're a good history uni...
...a very good one, in fact. And it's an oversubscribed department. Three As was higher than I expected, but whatevs, I want to go there.
did you go to the huss school talk?
with omgz dr jonathan barry?
Yeah, but last year it was ABB.....
Seems kinda a big jump?
We won uni of the year.
Might be to do with that.
Doesn't every uni win 'uni of the year' every year
Prospectuses / websites seem to suggest so =|
If you scroll down you'll see it...
http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/hybrid.asp?typeCode=125&pubCode=1
I think they've shot in reputation recently though.
They probably want to continue that.
*up
Exeter does have it's share
of RAHs as we call them. However there is a not-too shabby music scene and there ARE a lot of 'normal' types.
Not me though. I ONLY wear Jack Wills*
*this may be a lie.
cavern ftw.
YES YES YES!
HO R U?
also got duped into exeter
aka 'the region bands love to ignore'
Any decent record shops about?
Martian Records on Gandy St ain't too bad.
There's also a vinyl place down on McCoy's Arcade.
Otherwise its HMV and Virgin.
Nothing will be able to top
the Bury St Edmunds woolworths....
:D
its only one city
you cant expect miracles like that!
The throbbing musical heart
of Bury. St Edmunds!
With it's mighty chart CD rack, and the dodgier shelf with loads of funny-looking knock-down ABBA CDs on it...
Exeter has a lot to beat.
Exactly
who needs 'independent record stores' when you can get REO Speedwagon's greatest hits for £3.99.
Seriously though, it's a disgrace. I miss Fopp.
Yup, it's a bitch.
I'd go for Manchester
personally. You'd have more money for starters.
Two Queens courses - BBB
University Of Ulster - BCC
Durham rejected me, as I applied for English Literature, and my PS was very Sociology/Politics-centric.
Still waiting for Edinburgh. I don't care though, as I've got the two offers I was hoping for, and might even get three As, so my Queens place is pretty secure.
Oh noes!
I got rejected from Manchester to do English Lit.
I got into UCL, King's, Goldsmiths and Edinburgh (all for English too), which I was pleased with.
[I didn't actually make my list that Londonful on purpose, y'knowz.]
I think I'll go with UCL firm and King's insurance.
And if I was you, I'd choose Manchester over Goldsmiths!
Wait, actually. After being rejected from Manchester I looked up the English department's rankings on various websites and lists. Generally, it did pretty terribly.
I've heard it was really crap for physics, too
(back when I wanted to do physics)
it would probably be a great place to go to uni though, but they just look really up themselves...
Yeah,i'm totally not bitter about being rejected...
I know.
Looking at league tables was just my way of consoling myself.
I still really want to go there.
Wankers :D
I'm writing a report
on university league tables this very moment, if anyone wants to help me...
Hello?
WRITE THAT EDINBURGH IS BEST
Please write that edinburgh is best at everything so it makes me feel better about being rejected from half my applications...
NO!
Edinburgh IS a bloody good university though.
Phew...
I think it's right below oxford and cambridge (naturally) for philosophy, and not THAT far down for french, which is what i'm doing, so... yay
philosophy was pretty great at edinburgh
i heard pretty mixed reports of french though...
Not really
It's probably top 10, but, from the academics I've spoken to, St Andrews, Bristol, UCL, Sheffield are definitely all better.
hahahah
http://www.philosophicalgourmet.com/overall.asp
True dat
Edinburgh went on a rejection spree a couple of weeks ago and rejected everyone I know that wanted to go there.
AND THEIR LIKEZ THE GEEKZ OF DA YEAR AND EVERYTING.
edinburgh is fairly overrated
in some subjects, its a good place to have a degree from, the quality of the degree course itself can vary pretty wildly though...
...
That's my offer for Manchester as well, it's probably going to be my first choice when fuckingEdinburgh reply.
apparently manchester is trillions in debt or something
although I doubt that'll affect English, probably smaller courses or something.
or something.
+o(
I haven't actually checked UCAS yet
today
obviously.
nothing.
:@
did you work out what time they update the site?
one was at one pm, right?
also, srsly jasmine, when you get all 5 offers you will feel like you have NOTHING to live for.
life is so dull.
no...
My emails were all sent at different times...
I was speaking to someone who was under the impression that LSE reject a certain amount of students on a friday of the week, then accept a certain number the week after on Friday, and cont. etc. Not that this applies much to you.
What
are you applying for at LSE?
international relations and politics
(is what she applied to do. not me. i'm not a uni type. i shouldn't even be in this thread.)
history, not politics
fuck you
Anyone applied to kings for Philosophy/physics?
They still havn't got back to me...
they have 18 days
What happens if they don't get back to me?
They definitely got my application...
I don't care. I don't want to do physics anymore anyway.
I was speaking to someone
whose application got lost in the system. She said it sucked hard. I really have no idea what you can do if anything. It'll probably just go as an automatic unsuccessful though. I think it's quite rude when universities leave it this late. I know you run a popular joint, just get a few more people on the job hey?
Ah that's pretty gay
The only actual physical letter I got was from leeds saying I had a conditional. Everyone else just rejected me and I found out through an automated UCAS email.
Edinburgh just sent me their first thing a few weeks ago saying basically "Although we didn't ACTUALLY tell you you've got it, you know you've already got an unconditional, so how about coming through to see a city you already know fairly well?"
I hate unis. I bet it's not going to be the haven i'm expecting
universities are really rude
i wish they'd give some of the admin staff some kind of customer service training or something.
Manchester!
It's a pretty good uni and it's got all the cool stuff that London has but less expensive and on a smaller, less scary, scale. Also, apparantly the English course is one of the most competitive courses around, which says something I reckon.
Depends what you're after, but, from the
academic/prestige standpoint.....MANCHESTER FTW.
dude be cool
go to edgehill
im never getting these grades
durham AAA
york AA
but my unconditional for edinburgh should be fine :)
Unconditional for Edinburger, Scotchlandshire?
Good work!!!
:D
Two As for York?
Typo?
what is it normally?
its for history and those are adv highers. how unfair is that?!
Ohhhh Scottish
I thought you meant you needed just two English-system As, which would be crazy. I have no idea about the Scottish grade system though or what they translate into though, sorry!
*Minus one of those 'though's.
all good places to do history :)
i went to edinburgh. it was pretty awesome.
edinburgh gave me an unconditional offer really late in the day. in fact after all my school friends had had their conditional offers from edinburgh (even the girl applying for the same course!).
this thread
just makes me want to freak out about my probably failed ucl interview. again.
Why
doesn't ANYONE want to go to Imperial?
Fifth best uni in the world! And I'm going to be there for another 4 years.....
Because
1)They only do science. No one does science
2)It's hard to get in to
3)The students a UCL seemed nicer looking
I do/am going to do science
But I didn't apply to Imperial because, well, I don't know actually. Bristol FTW!
I live near some imperial student housing in London
and the students are generally pretty horrifying...
What is
wrong with people like me?!
where to start?
...
yeah i got by offers from
brunel
keele
southampton
bath
and
aberdeen (wtf)
ive put a firm in Brunel for English Literature
MANCHESTER
DO IT DO IT DO IT
