there are more than two photographers taking pictures at small gigs?

No, not really.

What is it in particular that bothers you about it?

They are...

doing their jobs.. and at most are shooting for a few songs during the set.

It goes part and parcel, get over it.

I'm not usually this rude but i'm sick of getting agro at gigs doing a job i'm asked to do.

It annoys the hell out of me

if they take pictures for the entire set instead of the first three songs. If they're there (there there) for the whole show it can ruin the atmosphere for the paying punters. Especially if they've got a massive camera set-up and keep chimping. You've got a digital SLR! It takes loads of pictures! You can check later!

Pet peeve is people who film the whole show on their camera phones... There's a new hell for them. In that hell, they stand behind themselves at an otherwise good gig.

Essentially...

its just about being considerate. You can get carried away but we're all there cos we like music, no one wants to ruin it for anyone. No photographer loves using flash but sadly sometimes its a neccessity (sp?) to get the shots for whoever wants it (band, promoter etc).

Shot tonight at Bardens (before anyone has a go - i only shot for the first 3 songs bar the odd crowd invasion moment!) spoke to Dananananakroyd about flash after and they were shocked anyone had a problem with it. After the first song complaints were being shouted from the BACK. Give us at least a song for chrissakes!

Apart from that, i know where you're coming from but be fair. fucking great gig though!!

I was about to email you about last night..

Actually I still will.

woo.

I have actually

watched entire gigs through the view finder of some gits phone.

It's like TV, it just demands you pay it attention.

It just pisses me off when I pay to see a band

that I've been looking foward to seeing for ages, and there are a bunch of people with their cameras taking up the front row. I mean, they don't enhance either the audience's enjoyment or the band's performance and they can kind of get in the way.

I understand they may just be doing a job and some are quite considerate, but sometimes you see a few people snapping away for the entire set. It's only really annoying when there are a large number of photographers at small gigs. I mean at Danananaykroyd tonight...does anyone really need 5 photographers in a venue as small as Bardens?

yes, i HATE photographers at gigs!

i tell them to fuck off! ive not paid to look at the back of some twat's head!!

Not as bad as a laptop

that someone was waving around in the crowd at the Hot Chip gig last night.

I know 4/5 photographers

seems excessive for a small gig like last night but there is not much you can do about it when all the photographers are from different websites/magazines. Last night at Bardens we had Lucy from DIS, someone from artrocker, Agaskodo's film crew/photographer + a few others. You can't exactly ask them to share their pics.

But yeah, they should only really do the first few songs, which as far as i know happened last night. Trouble is these days lots of people own chunky digital SLR's as their 'fun' camera and take shots for personal use

Flash pisses me off

Lots. Yes.

it's a bit annoying

i was getting a bit frustrated with the lady at the luminaire but ah well, that's what she's there for i guess. although she could have taken her HUGE bag off - anyone else in the middle and at the front with a bag that big would have been told to do one.

Ok..

but you shouldn't be mean! I always make sure i'm never in anyone's way and always polite!

Also i'm 5 foot tall so i defy anyone to say my head gets in there way! ;)

I have no problem with people using cameras.

I do have a problem with people thinking that having a camera gives them carte blanche to push people out of the way. I find a well applied boot to the back of the knee helps to remind them of their manners.

i know, but you're probably

one of the nicer ones. the lady last night was incredibly arrogant and she just kept pushing past everyone to get her shot.

also her BAG. argh.

but forget that, it was a great gig. better than dananananaykroyd probably ;)

i have no problems with photographers

however... if they are going to be there, i'd prefer it if they were there for the WHOLE gig, not just swan in half way through.

we got reviewed in rock sound once and the photographer didn't show up until the band after us. which we got a better rating than. grrrr.

Thats just bad manners though..

one should always be respectful of the band and the crowd!

I think with me, it just hurts a little when someone says to me that it was possible that i may have ruined their fun at a gig (punters)- the whole reason i love shooting gigs (i shoot a whole lot of corporate shizzle by day to pay the rent) is because i love music so much... and it really is a love of both things that drives it. I would hate to think that i ruined someone's gig by snapping - as i'm just trying to document it for all of us.

Anyone whose seen me snap at a good gig will know i'm there for the music just as much as the three songs (and a bit) of snapping - Ibzo you can testify! Also Danananakroyd win - Concentration Face rules! Talking of which..next thursday people...Gay against you!! COME! then you can have a go at my snapping in person! ;)

That was..

long... i'm a bit drunk.

Snapped Enablers for DiS tonight - f**king AMAZING!!

I think I saw you snapping at Dananananayrkoyd

and will admit you did seem to practice what you preached and were clearly enjoying it and didn't snap for long, unlike that guy with the daft moustache sitting on the front of the stage with the vacant expression for the whole show. Grrr.

Weren't

they just brilliant?! How could i not dance?! They were fucking wicked! :D T'was a great gig!

Thats it though, we can all get carried away but as long as you try and get the shots in the first few songs and be polite and alright to everyone, no one should have a problem!

Anyway i was legit - i shoot for Concentration face and Barden's!

Pete Simonelli (Enablers)

showed remarkable restraint last night. I wouldn't have tolerated someone almost continually waving a flashgun 5 inches from my face whilst performing, especially not if you start the show by asking for 'no flashing lights please'. And whatever happened to the unwritten photographer's rule only to take snaps during the first 3 songs?

i don't mind it...

it only botheres me more, when they hang about with the camera around their neck, waiting for the 'right shot'.

ave' a word, you look like a tosser.

you know we are only doing our job

and of course if photographers didnt cover gigs there would be far less live reviews in the press. I agree photographers should show respect to the fee paying audience however they also should respect they they are doing they job! Nothing pissed me off than spotty 18 year old teenagers throwing beer over me and my gear. They think its funny, I get them evicted so always get the last laugh....John www.rahimlive.com

yes

especially if they don't give a shit about the band playing at all.

or if they photograph your entire set and don't put you in their magazine after using like two rolls worth of film. or memory cards.
