Foals Acoustic

Sadly, pretty lolworthy. Sort of loses its OOMPH without the drums, and since it's so quiet he can't rely on the "indie yelping".

Yeah it is quite odd

but that bass is mega

Anyone who still doesnt know where they stand on them should watch this

Absolutely terrible, if the song falls apart jus like that when its played acoustic, it shows how shit they really are.

er...

About a million brilliant bands would sound shit if they were acoustic, so your theory falls down.

Foals are great.

Just bores me..

Without the energy of the studio one, this song is nothing. Not that its particularly exciting anyway. There is a n intro to one of there songs that is just a blatant GoF rip off.

Originality in music RIP

You are silly.

REAL MUSIC!

PAUL WELLER!
PROPER TUNES!

Red Socks Pugie

sounded really good in acoustic form. Cassius was a bit iffy though

yeah thats pretty shit

i guess their songs just aren't meant to be played acoustically. they should've known better than to agree to do that!

A spotter's guide to things that do not translate to acoustic performances

Math rock
Rhythmic syncopation
Dance influences
Affected yelping

And anyone's surprised Foals acoustic wouldn't work?

they should add some melodica and percussion next time

unless that totally put them off doing anything acoustic ever again.

No-one should agree

...to appearing on the excretable George Lamb show

but

They aren't math.

i'd seen the other comments

I thought maybe you were all exaggerating and it wouldn't be that bad. There have been lots of things i didn't expect to work acoustically that did... but not this one.

i dunno

that was sort of interesting, but if they were doing an acoustic thing, they should have worked out a new arrangement for it, instead of just playing it as if it was their normal set up

but i guess that would have been some effort that they didnt feel any need to make.

i mean, obvs its their choice, but they could have arranged it in such a way that it became centered around the vocals and the rhythm, without the twittering guitars

nah i reckon if they really brought the vocals forward

he'd actually have to think about singing them well

maybe

i'm still not sure about foals

I thought they would've just converted it into chords.

What's the point of acoustic if you're still playing lead bits?

Maybe they couldn't do it because Yannis doesn't know how to play E major :p

why do bands etc. insist on acoustic sessions?

STOP IT. THEY ARE RARELY - IF EVER - GOOD.

Red Socks Pugie

Doesn't sound that bad actually.

^ this

.

they were superb last night in oxford, despite the crappy venue and youthmovies too, what i saw of them anyway their set was so short.

i wonder if

they were as embarrassed as i feel for them watching that... i would have laughed hard if i was there. sorry to any foals fans, but... AHAHAHA

i like foals

but this is quite bad. as somebody said up there ^^ they've clearly not given any thought as to how it might have been better arranged as an acoustic version.

Red Sox Pugie

was good.
Once again any slight reason to hate is taken by armchair critics who will never write a song in their lives.

do you dislike them too?

i think they are crap

NRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG

People REALLY love to dislike foals, don't they?

They're not crap. You don't like them, supposedly, but they are obviously not crap. They are obviously a good band whom you don't like.

calm down dear

what i said is I THINK they are crap, thats only reflecting my personal opinion. im sure plenty of people would think that some of the stuff i listen to is crap.

did you get a matching pair of Foals curtains to go with the duvet set?

yes_

The mark of a good band is the test of time. Lets see if they are still around a year from now.

It's completely not

The rolling stones are still around
The who are still around
The Foo Fighters are still around

Of course it is.

Are they going to come up with something new with the next album?
Or are they going to do a 'Go Team' and release the first album again with a different name.

Whether people like it or not band have to reinvent themselves to survive, I dont think that Foals have got it in them to do that.

We will see though.

Hang on

Let's not critique the second album before the first has been released. One of my least favourite phrases in the whole of music criticism is "whether they can develop from here". Oh, I was hoping to enjoy this album for the time being.

HAHAHAHAHA

What a load of shite.

Whaaat?!

I was saying that to you!

"The mark of a good band is the test of time."

Thats bollocks!

You are into one hit wonders then?

Whats the least amount of good albums a band can release before they split up then - just to prove my point wrong?

Not one hit wonders

But take pretty much every hardcore band on Level Plane from the 90's, and with your description they'd be shite (which is wrong).

yikes

that was bad. for some reason the bbc hate macs and refuse to put the majority of their content in a format which my mac will get along with, so i won't be able to hear the semi-redeeming red sox pugie. bad form

Of course it relies on energy

I think they still managed to translate acoustically well. I liked the bridge

Seems a bit unfair to denounce them as shit, considering the song was taken out of context

Will this band....

ever go away?

yeah. I think that :

In a couple of months, no one will talk of them.
In a couple of years, no one will remember them.

But seeing I'm usually wrong with this things, they might be the new Coldplay...

I agree (see my comment above).

In a years time they will be forgotten about. So will math rock.

i agree

I look forward to "Science Rock"

home economic rock
geography rock

you see what i did there? DID YOU SEE?

Oh sorry, thats what we were told to call it.

And I doubt the band kicked up that much of a fuss about the pigeon holing to begin with.

Just now that people are starting to say 'WHAT THE FUCK IS MATH ROCK!!!!!!'

They are probably washing their hands of it.

Twinky little guitar twangs with a bloke that cant sing, thats what I will call it. Or, 'not as good as Battles' that would be a better term for whatever they are doing.

george lamb

i don't know much of him really as i don't listen to the radio show that's caused so much debate but blimey, he is a cunt isn't he.

Some observations:

1. George Lamb is a fuckwit. "Thanks a lot The Foals. You've been great. The Foals everyone."
2. Red Socks Pugie was good, and showed to me what the song truly is - a pop song with a good melody (note: this isn't an insult).
3. Cassius was dire. They only played it because it's their current single. I'm sure they would've chosen something else if they had a choice.

Oh God, George Lamb calls them The Foals

He's as bad as David Platt he is. Foals shouldn't play acoustic, ever. Not good.

i love

how they can barely get thier fingers on the fretboard.

Hilarious

Five indie haircuts in desperate need of a song!

really awful camera work aside,

i really like this version. it should've been slowed down or changed a little, but it works being so soft.
they did an amplified session on jo whiley the next day without the ill drummer boy and with three other percussionist friends during which he sang the same way. did not work.

i wonder how many people slagging foals here

are in shit bands who haven't got the break they have?

I personally love them and don't give a shit if they sound a wee bit like some other bands. They make happy dancey music which is what the world needs.

I am in a shit band...

That haven't had a 'break' and I like them. But I can see why people hate them.

indeed

see the B A N A N A post right down there \/

and hopefully the link will work properly with this one...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/livelounge/artist/080314_foals.shtml

That was interesting..

It seems as though people are slagging them off just because their songs don't work acoustically....so what?

At least they had the balls to do it. If Battles did the same it would sound equally questionable.

The reason it doesn't work acoustically

Is because it is a bad song. A good song will work however you do it.

like jean michel jarrre

his acoustic versions are bloody great!

Battles live...

Would work tho. I also think they could manage to keep in time.

I'm a massive Foals fan...

..and this is pretty bad. But anyone saying that a song is only good if it works accoustically: you are fucking retarded. I suppose Rage Against The Machine and Mogwai can't write songs either then duhhhhhh!!! (Go and listen to their accoustic material, it's shite).

Not defending them because admittedly Yannis' voice is pretty poor, and these songs could have been rearranged slightly as people have said, but the point still stands.

What rubbish.

Tourettes by Nirvana? Smells Like Teen Spirit even? Purposely left of Unplugged In New York because there is no way it could work acoustically.

This was in reply to Trey's daft post..

Why does it do that!?

So people can work out whos replying to who

Everybody with a brain has worked out how it works. Yes it can get a bit complicated when people are posting all over the place but if you try you can ALWAYS follow a thread (assuming people press "post reply" to what they actually want to reply to).
I don't think there is any other way of doing it, how would you have it.

Smells Like Teen Spirit

Works fine acoustically. I've heard it done.

...

*bump*

wow thats bad

i thought it must be a bunch of people who didnt like foals but i love them and ill happily say thats shit. jesus its so bad

anyway

it's not bad, it's just different.

and red socks pugie is very good.

I will say it again

Red Sox Pugie is good.

Ha ha I just listened to a "haters" band.
People in glass houses…

dunno

it's very hard to tell on these boards what replies are to what sometimes...

haha

that was in reply to grammar's post up there about stupid placing of replies to posts...

Huuummmm

sounds like me singing along in the shower.

To be fair it doesn't seem like a very good choice of song to sing accoustic.

I like Foals

but Cassius sounds bad, however Red Socks Pugie worked out very well.

yeah

if you can manage to stick through the awful waste of life that is george lamb then red socks pugie is well worth it

ha ha ha!!!

hoo hoo!
nearly wept with laughter at 'cassius'...what a HUGE mistake!

I'm not going to listen to this

Foals are actually shit.

GOD

the singer's so out of tune man!

that was bad
