I've found a love for this type of music but I don't know where to start. I have some stuff from the San Andreas soundtrack, Jonny Greenwood Is the Controller, a Bob Marley & The Wailers compilation, and a few Scientist songs. But I want MORE!

Any ideas?

have produced loads of triple disc box-sets. you can usually pick them up in hmv or somewhere for less than a tenner. there's a few dodgy selections, but some of them are great. they make a good intro as they group together loads of themes/artists and you can follow up any you like the sound. the ska one in particular is ace.

don letts

put together this compilation of stuff he was playing at the roxy club in london at the end of the seventies

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dread-Meets-Punk-Rockers-Uptown/dp/B00005QZF3

it's an absolute flawless collection and gives a great introduction to loads of bands

Blood & Fire

Pretty much anything on this list, Keith Hudson's 'Pick A Dub' and King Tubby 'Dub Gone Crazy' in particular.

Say what you like about Mick Hucknall, the man knows good reggae...

Thnaks

I only hae the first 2 and they are excellent

sadly Joe Gibbs passes away about a month ago.

Ditch the Bob Marley

and get these for starters...

Misty In Roots
Lee Scratch Perry
Mad Professor - check out the Dub Me Crazy series
Black Uhuru

ok here we go

some great suggestions already but i would say
Reggae:
1. Heart of the Congo - The Congos
2. Two Sevens Clash - Culture
3. Jesus Dread - Yabby U
4. Roast Fish Colliue Weed & Corn Bread - Lee Scratch Perry
5. Satta Massagna - Abyssinians
6. Trench Town Mix Up - Gladiators

7. Marcus Garvey - Burning Spear
8. Extra Classic - Gregory Isaacs

Dub:
1 Dub Gone Crazy 1 & 2 - King Tubby
2 Rockers Meet King Tubbys Uptown - Augustus Pablo
3 Super Ape - The Upsetters
4. Big Showdown at King Tubbys - Scientist vs Jammy
5. Cry Tuff Dub Encounter (1 to 4) - Prince Far I
6. At The Controls Dubwise - Mikey Dread

thats a few of the top of my head.
The Congos is the first one to get, i rate it in the top 5 albums ever made (produced by L Perry) and not just reggae.

Will post more suggestoins if required

^Listen to this man

But add some Black Uhuru.

Marcus Garvey - Burning Spear is superb

you can get the 20 song version, with the standard album followed by the dub version of the album.

Yes the dub version is Garvey's Ghost

it's kind of dub lite. but I have always rather enjoyed it

Also!

Toots and the Maytals. Pressure Drop, in especial, is amazing.

And you should be able to get a 3-disc King Tubby boxset for five pounds in HMV, utter bargain and essential.

Misty In Roots

'Live At Counter Eurovision'

I forgot Arkology by Lee Scratch Perry

an essential purchase to get an overview of the great mans work.

I would say he ii the greatest and most innovative record producer I have ever heard.

its all about

lee perry and king tubby

Merzdub

Well, I like it...

Where to start?

Come round to my house any afternoon. You can hear a selection of the above genre played through the wall at cutlery - shaking ant - disturbing volume.

Toots and the Maytals were amazing

after that my knowledge of this subject dies on its arse
