Wow, what a fucking average album

The single and the video is pretty repeptive, its like they're trying to portray this whimiscle image, but it just feels manufactured.

The whole album is a mish mash of influences, new and old, trying to be a bit out there but not getting anywhere near Floyd, bit girly Scissor Sisters vocals, then trying to be Mick Jagger rough on anohter. Its just a lot of noise.

Don't see how they will be 'big' this year with such an average, pretty boring TBH, album. Nothing special here at all

For the phenomenon of boring music being popular

look no further than Snow Patrol

Er

That's quite a jump to make in one post.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

Look at virtually all popular music, it's very dull indeed.

^ but you LOVE The Feeling

(suddenly wants to say "but you LOVE Ladysmith Black Mambazo, but doesn't think anyone will get it)

This is the fertility vase of the Ndebele tribe.

Does that mean anything to you?

I only listened to it for

the first time this morning but I like it so far. Time to Pretend is very good.

Reasson why they will be big?

Time To Pretend & Kids

Some fine singles and club hits there

I almost bought this last night

but went for Elbow instead. Elbow is very impressive, but I just went to the MGMT Myspace and apart from Time to Pretend, they are pretty poor.

good choice

the seldom seen kid is magnificent

Indeed, it is freaking awesome,

which is the most american styled sentence I havfee written today. Sweet.

indeed ..

it all sounds a bit confused to me, certainly a lack of cohesion and overall 'direction' been some dissapointing albums the last few weeks, The Teenagers anyone? snappy lyrics but a complete droneathon, they should try poetry instead of music.

(you see MGMT must be dull all weve talked about is other bands!)

I can't understand

why you'd bother to start a thread about something that you find unremarkable and average. Furthermore this topic seems to just be a condensed version of the Oracular review that appeared on here not so long ago.

In my opinion they're to as pastiche-y as someone like LCD... and also for the record Pink Floyd are shite.

Pink Floyd are not shite.

You may be getting them confused with Led Zeppelin.

No, it's the other way round

Led Zeppelin are great.

Pink Floyd are a) shite since Wish You Were Here b) A bunch of pretentious old men c) made up partially of Roger Waters, who gets the LBC prize for Grade A Twat of the Century, ahead f such front runners as Hitler, Thatcher and Graham Norton

I haven't heard it

but I really like 'Pieces of What' :)

kids

song was v catchy on first listen - rest is a bit all over the place.... a lot, lot worse out there

Saw them at SxSW....

and thought they were distinctly average. Do not get the hypre surrounding them but then again so many hyped bands are mince!

Does MGMT stand for something?

I'm so uncool.

Hale and Pace's litigation lawyers

were briefly awoken from their fifteen year slumber.

I really don't like this kind of thing

But the album is ok, actually. Some nice uplifting pop stuff on there. Tails of pretty badly towards the end, but the first 4 or so tracks are all great and exactly the kind of thing I'd want to hear at a club etc.

About a 6.5/7 out of 10

Love it Love it Love it

At least one half of a classic album.

I think one guy is wearing what looks like Keith Haring shorts on the front cover, which is fantastic if so.

its a good album

its not going to change the world but i like it. time to pretend, pieces of what, electric feel and kids are really good songs. btw. download this bad bpy. its cool as fuck when your stoned. you get to change the video
