you just need to add the comma - "Don't you know that your life would be lost, out of cape cod tonight" They leave it up to you to add the 'get' as it mirrors the other line, and also flows and fits a lot better.
which I don't really get, not just because I like the album but because I feel it's very accessible and likeable. A lot of it seems to be directed at their upper-class preppy image.
until i saw them on later and they were not what i expected at all. bought the album and i think it's really good. accessible is the word, but sometimes that's no bad thing. it's straight up sunshine pop and on those terms it's pretty much spot on.
Just put it on and enjoy some classic early 80s World sounds and rythms. The music is space and light, like dust motes dancing in the window of a hazy sunday afternoon. Deft, unpretentious lyrics that don't care about what you think of the creators' social standing. They are what they are, and they're not going to make a fuss about it.
yes thanks for telling me off...but er...sorry they are still tepid and average. I bow down to your superior musical knowledge oh learned one. and you like sparklehorse, heh heh!
I was just saying that concluding that all class-based aversions to them are down to stupidity is wrong. They may just fail to make an impression on some people because they don't identify. I'm not saying it's a rule.
Really great pop songs.
Although the lyrics to Walcott confuse me no end.
"Don't you know that your life would be lost out of Cape Cod tonight?"
"Don't you want to get out of Cape Cod, out of Cape Cod tonight?"
So Walcott is insane for wanting to save his life? eh?
that makes sense
you just need to add the comma - "Don't you know that your life would be lost, out of cape cod tonight" They leave it up to you to add the 'get' as it mirrors the other line, and also flows and fits a lot better.
I see.
The lyric websites fuel my confusion.
6/10
average at best imo.
5/10
I got 'Walcott' and 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa' off a blog like 6 months ago. They are good songs but the album is crapsticks.
the track M79
is classic pop, and A-Punk is pretty damn addictive (and i don't even like ska!)
A-Punk
is ska?
Personallly, I LOVE the album
But there are alot of people on here who have a strong disliking for them!
they're too cool for everyone here
uh-oh!
There is a lot of hate
which I don't really get, not just because I like the album but because I feel it's very accessible and likeable. A lot of it seems to be directed at their upper-class preppy image.
^
exactly! I reckon all the haters are just closet fanatics!
Or maybe they're performance on
Jools
Well maybe...
...but that Jools performance was pretty good actually.
I dunno why people don't like them. Maybe their image, or because they're ridiculously poppy.
WTF - cant we go a week without a thread on Vampire Weekend??
The album is just average, it's middle of the road and not too unpleasant. Oxford Comma is a good song, everything else just washes over me.
^ Closet fan
:D
overrated
I agree with el_clash_combo.. Few catchy tracks but cant help think they're riding the hype machine. They won't be around for long.
i'd managed to completely avoid them...
until i saw them on later and they were not what i expected at all. bought the album and i think it's really good. accessible is the word, but sometimes that's no bad thing. it's straight up sunshine pop and on those terms it's pretty much spot on.
Ignore the hype, Ignore the haters

A Future Classic.
^ no you're pretentious
World music is shit
That's all music from the world ever 'shit', there
Vampire Weekend - the new Foals.
coming from someone
who lists The Verve as their top artist, I'll take that as a compliment. Case not just rested, but screwed soundly and left to sleep it off.
^ooohhh that told me!
yes thanks for telling me off...but er...sorry they are still tepid and average. I bow down to your superior musical knowledge oh learned one. and you like sparklehorse, heh heh!
Damn straight.
Now fetch me my slippers like a proper bitch!
Not this again.
Shut up.
Just listened to this album for the 94th time
and I still havent found a single thing to hate about it. It's still all good. Gee whizz, who would've thunk it.
That Ceri Evans needs to die though.
94th?!?!?!
serious?
enjoyed the album
i really like them!
Cant beat a bit o pop.
for some reason
The album bores me thoroughly (as in so much that I can't sleep). I'm not sure quite why that is, as I should really like this kind of thing. Hmmmm.
I really like them
Disliking them for reasons such as class is pretty retarded
or maybe some people just don't *identify* with them
because of class, and so that's why they think they're pretty meh. it's not necessarily just being stupid.
I can't identify with wealthy people,
I'm working class but that doesn't mean that I'll only listen to working class musicians because I 'identify' with them
People are people!
Or should I say
Music is music!
are you from the enemy?
nor was i suggesting that you shouldn't
I was just saying that concluding that all class-based aversions to them are down to stupidity is wrong. They may just fail to make an impression on some people because they don't identify. I'm not saying it's a rule.
Its an above average album of catchy pop albums.
It is overated but to be fair lots of shit stuff is overated so this seems to me to be a good change.
I enjoy them.
Boston
just can't be fucked with as far as great songs go, really..
