Not the lava lamp maker, the band.

Anyone like em? I got a copy of "The Civil War" for free and it's bloody amazing. Quite strange medieval-folk-electronica weirdiness. Not my usual type of music so I have no idea who to compare it with, other than maybe Four Tet...

Re: Matmos

Yeah. They are great. Saw them at ATP mixing breakbeat with water falling onto a steel sheet, mousecage solos and hurdy-gurdy. Very interesting music boys.

Re: Matmos

Matmos are a-ma-zing. Worth getting 'A Chance to Cut is a Chance to Cure': the track 'California Rhinoplasty' takes a nose job as a sound source. Not a good one to accompany a mushroom session.

Re: Matmos

They've worked a lot with Bjork in the last few years. Particularly Vespertine. Hence the reason it's so amazing.

Also one of them writes for pitchfork and he has interesting things to say.

But, yeah the Civil War is a wonderful album.

Re: Matmos

Their offshoot 'disco' band The Soft Pink Truth are also very very good.

Re: Matmos

They're OK-I think they haven't forfilled themselves really-some nice ideas but nothing that makes me excited.

Re: Matmos

Don't tell me one of them writes for Pitchfork! I hate them now.

Which one?

Re: Matmos

I believe it is Drew Daniels. I could be wrong. It's happened before.

By the way, disliking them for this would be fucking sad.

Re: Matmos

Well yes, I was clearly just being silly.

Re: Matmos

well man you never know round these parts.

He did actually write an interesting thing in the atp booklet about slint at the last festival. It was good.

Anyway. Enjoy your day.
