(I expect this has been done before, but...)
4 or 5 Magicians
Cats In Paris
Jam On Bread
Panda Bear
Dananananykroyd
Any others? I reckon someone should organise it, everyone chuck in a bit of cash and sort out a little tour, commitments permitting. I'm sure there are enough users in Scotland, London & the North-West to get three gigs packed out at least. Am i being an idiot?
..up be?
SHITTALKER
innit.
Also, does someone from Pennines post here? If so, them.
shit, yeah, and Held By Hands.
Sorry, i'm a goon, my memory's not what it was.
& Gossamer Albatross, actually.
They're two of my favourite bands, how did i forget them?
That would be amazing
I'd do it.
Promoting I mean
Cambridge!
gossamer ableton
.
is that meant to be funny rich?
now tell me, did charlie tell you to write that or did you come up with all on your ownsome?
forgot to say
I'd we up for helping out any way I could to make this happen
No, you're not being an idiot
This would be aces.
Although
Suddenly every user will have a band.. ;)
Do Los Camps still count?
Also, does Panda Bear really post here? Is he the user Panda_Bear?
Held By Hands obvs already mentioned, the big one you've left out is Johnny Foreigner.
oi tom
why aren't you jagging The Horse That Wears A Crown, Manchester's premier passive-agressive creepy victoriana indie pop garage rock combo?
Because we're not as good as any of those bands
Also, allow me to use this opportunity to mention that the following are also good:
- Minnaars
- Cats and Cats and Cats
and I believe there are members of Keyboard Choir who are at least registered.
yes we are
don't be silly!
you have to have absolute, arrogant faith in yr own abilities to get anywhere in this world.
we still need a drummer though :'(
^ minaars
I like them a lot.
Queen
Surely this is some form of
metaphorical nepotism.
Well i didn't realise how many of the much hyped bands on here are former/current users. Makes sense.
Copy Haho too!!
aye, them
very good at the Dana gig. Their chat was hilarious.
god, bit cliquey
then everyone can come and wear a DiS badge and baseball cap and stroke their collective indie beards and talk to each other about how they know the guitarist..
What about my band???
We're officially more popular than the Cazals in Bristol.
The Tupolev Ghost
This Town Needs Guns
Pipecleaner
I've spent a long time going through the myspace pages of bands on here to play to my Yr 9 class and (of bands not already mentioned above) Pipecleaner have been the ones to stand out for me personally.
.
panda bear doesnt go on here
Let's actually do this.
I can probably arrange it in Bath. Interest?
i'd come.
I'd attend the gig, too. LOLZ.
better than the NME shockwaves tour, thats for sure!
May I suggest Twiglets for the sponsor of this one? Or Kopparberg?
johnny foreigner?
Foals?
Queen
Fuck Buttons
Editors
Stealthtones
double points for stealthtones
PWL ANYONE?
OMGZ, I can't believe nobody has mentioned George Pringle!
lolz @ Panda Bear
I wish.
We should put it on
in the most central part of the UK.
Huzzah!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2319937.stm
Amazing!
I agree
Also, Manchester is the most central part of the UK.
I Was A Cub Scout
One of Sky Larkin posts occasionally. Jeremy Warmsley and Emmy The Great, although I can't recall seeing either for a while.
hahahah @
Panda Bear. He rarely posted at rerz.net let alone here!
:D
^ I assumed you were the real Panda Bear. Silly me.
no no no
I've used this name for years on forums :)
Damn it. My friends think Panda Bear's a mad Everton fan now!
;)
Pagan Wanderer Lu anyone?
Also Panic Attract (Cumulus Nimbus) who jagged one of his tracks onhere a while ago that was the best thing I've heard by a DiSer.
hey
nice one!!
I definitely think it could work...
but i think it'd be a shame to just do one gig. If we could sort out a few then it would not only let people see the bands without travelling a million miles, but would also get all the bands a few more gigs (not that they'd be short of offers, but...). I don't really know which areas are stuffed with DiS users, London, obviously, and i'm sure there'd be enough in Manchester, but after that i'm not really sure, Leeds, perhaps, and maybe Glasgow. Obviously most of the bands will have commitments, but even if we could just get a few of them to play it would be ace.
hello world to open
or here
could manage a spot in new xxx for yous?
...
Fridge Noises (JAG JAG JAG JAG JAG)
Los Campesinos
Gossamer Albatross
Thee Awkward Silences

Mountain Men Anonymous reformation

Rolo Tomassi
Napoleon IIIrd
with iLiKETRAiNS DJs
oh do Rolo Tomassi post...?
Add them to mine xxx
I was thinking about putting on a gig like this.
Didn't get past the thinking stage so far...
if you let one of my bands play
then you shall definitely play the next band orientated LOVE TO MAKE NOISE night at royal holloway.
Which other bands are you involved with?
I only know about the East India Playing Company...
Probably happy to let EIPC or one of your other bands play regardless of other coercions...
It's looking
increasingly like a festival now. And one with a bill that'd rival the small scale independent ones at that.
Actually my precise line of thought was
that it would be interesting to work with a couple of other DiS promoters and put on some sort of mini-festival (or even multi-venue event like the Camden Crawl) where we each promote a stage/venue (delete as applicable) but run it together.
I'm entirely serious in this plan by the way - if anyone wants to contact me and try and help organise this then I'm willing to commit if they are.
webcam festival
on drownedinsound.com
Haha!
oooh
That could actually work.
In reply
to Paul's post
For me
Friends of the Bride
Telegraphs
Gossamer Albatross
Paul Hawkins and Thee Awkward Silences
4 or 5 Magicians
Dananananykroyd
and in Paris.
Thanks.
Nice central location there, lyle.
Though it would be pretty cool.
I'm willing to come to Paris and make this happen...
Mais Paris
est le centre du monde !
le centre pompidou!
Mais bien sûr!
Die Plankton!
tch
no one mentioned the mighty Cutting Pink With Knives yet..? I'd also say Sailplanes when they're back later in the year, on and JAG Amy Blue (post maternity leave :p)
No formal art training

I did sketch out a second stage but ran out of being arsed-ness before getting there. For the record:
SATURDAY: Jeremy Warmsley, Napoleon IIIrd, Pagan Wanderer Lu, Gossamer Albatross, Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences, Time Space Repeat, Shittalker, Copy Haho
SUNDAY: Fuck Buttons, Rolo Tomassi, Cats In Paris, Pocus Whiteface, Held By Hands, Jam On Bread, The Tupolev Ghost
"In asscociation with Games Workshop"
Nice touch.
Some of the bands being classed as DiS bands are a bit tenuous though surely? For example do members of forward russia and iliketrains really use these boards?
They have done
Tom and Dave respectively have posted a few times, probably more so than some other bands people have suggested.
Oh, OK
I must have missed that. Not surprising really, I didn't even realise myfirstmine was the LC singer bloke.
Just remembered Ian from Redjetson posts a fair bit and nobody's mentioned them.
OH CHEERS
oh hang on i've just seen the flyer
ignore my comedy incredulity!
nice to be remembered
Oh, alright
I've done both stages now. http://www.auxz73.dsl.pipex.com/drownstock.jpg
Gamesworkshop megalolz
Wut, no Queen?
editors?
Please someone organise this festival!
It would be so so so so good!
i think we could do it, easily.
but do you think a one-off festival would be better than a tour?
^ this so much
but make it in scotland, pls.
No it would be in london
and exclude everyone else.
This is DiS, after all.
*Nottingham
if only!
Could do both couldn't you?
I mean put on a mini-festival somewhere (even if it be just running a couple of all-dayers simultaneously in a couple of venues (which I'm sure could be done in both Manchester & London) and then four or five doing a mini-tour around the rest of the UK to accompany it.
*four or five bands I meant
rather than 4 or 5 Magicians which you might have assumed. Although 4 or 5 Magicians might feasibly be one of the bands...
What about a festival-tour thing?
Like that festival in the Simpsons episode "Homerpalooza".
yeah!
or maybe we could even push the boat out and make it like real life festival LOLapalooza!
We could call it Lorrapalelosers.
Ho Ho Ho
So
long as this real life version features inflatable pigs and sideshow freaks. Except we could have inflatable giant isopods, and the freaks would all be in the bands.
are you seriously not familiar with the lollapalooza festival?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lollapalooza
I thought you were joking!
When A Train Hits A Truck
at least 3 DiSers I believe. But not gigging yet..
This Post has been
A great starter to some new bands, i would definitely pay to see some of these...Cats in Paris, Held By Hands, Gossamer Albatross...more more!Jag-Bambi Get Over It
