Anyone holding their breath waiting for a new Postal Service album can probably expect imminent asphyxiation.

Speaking to DiS' Gareth Dobson today, Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard (front of picture) has dismissed rumours that a new collaborative record with Jimmy Tamborello AKA Dntel is forthcoming.

Whilst unfailingly polite but a little ennui when pressed on the issue, he sighed: "I know, I know, the longer it goes on...

"At a certain point, our (Gibbard and Dntel's) schedules just made it very difficult. It hasn’t been an active project that we’ve been pursuing.

"So, we have some songs, we have a handful of tunes that we’ve been working on. But really at this point I’m kinda thinking about this record as the indie rock version of [fabled Guns ‘n Roses 'album' long in production] Chinese Democracy.

He added: "When you see it, fine. But don’t believe it until then."

The point? If and when there's another Postal Service album, they'll tell you about it, dude.

Keep eyes peeled for a full Death Cab interview in the coming weeks...

Haha

I wish they'd dismiss the operation and be satisfied with a single end product.

Please don't make another Postal Service record.

Why try and improve on perfection?

i'd

have to agree. As much as I would love the postal service to make a new album, it would also be nearly impossible to make another that lived up to or surpassed the greatness of 'Give Up'

The first Gibbard/Dntel collaboration is still better

than anything done in the Postal Service moniker. Much as I love Give Up, '(This is) The Dream of Evan & Chan' from Dntel's Life is Full of Possibilities is still the zenith of their creativity to my ears.

The first sentence of this article

is the funniest thing i've read in ages.

Cheers Gareth!
