Also, why is no one else saying the Born Ruffians album? :( It's by far my favourite album of the year so far. Also, the Mae Shi album really isn't very good.

Brighter than creation's dark is already the record of 2008, how come no-one ever mentions them on this site?!
Because they're fools.
FOOLS!
The Kills
Personally I think the first genuine masterpiece of the year is...
the unsung classic Dwell by The Envy Corps. More people should really hear it. Other mentions go to The Ruby Suns, Young Knives, Guillemots, Marah and Grand Archives.

Well now
If you like songs that tell stories and have intelligent lyrics go for Mountain Goats - 'Heretic Pride'
If you like beautiful female singers do soulful cover verisons go for Cat Power 'Jukebox'
If you are a fan of early Jesus and Mary Chain (and enjoy camping it up a bit) get Magnetic Fields 'Distortion'.
If you LOVE music and feel it throbbing in your soul get Silver Mt Zion's '13 blues for Thirteen Moons'.
There, done.
oh and if you like well-put-together-brit-rock-mathish-stuff
get Youthmovies.

Ipanema
's self titled anthology. Released in memory of frontman Wiz who sadly passed away in December 06. It contains their singles, tracks off their 2005 mini album and demos - all of which are fantastic. It's just £10 from www.bosstuneage.com and all proceeds go to the Forward 4 Wiz Trust, set up to provide guidance and some financial assistance to up and coming musicians.
It's my fave album of the year. Have I sold it to you?
Jaguar Love

Samamidon - All is Well
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

I reckon The Recovery self-named album
deserves a listen - four tracks are on LastFM. I think its outstandingly good for a little known band (they got third billing at Nott Bodega!).
so far..
2008 has provided me with very little which i've desperately wanted to seek out
the Earth album is pretty good (and the Evangelicals record has its moments), but neither have grabbed me in the same way that my favourite 2007 albums did
i declare 2008 a musical wash-out
Born Ruffians?
never heard of it
probably shit innit
No, it's probably amazing
Listen to it.
it's probably indie
therefore probably shit
