Well

I've not yet heard the new Chris T-T, but judging by the quality of everything he has previously released this seems like a 100% safe bet.

try these

MGMT - Oracular Spectaular
Guillemots - Red
Vampire Weekend

I have to say though that none of the above are as good as The Seldom Seen Kid...

Born Ruffians

Portishead

why?

when the Man Man album comes out, get it. it is BRILLIANT.

It's a bit poppy

not really...

but a lot of the songs could be singles. i think it's fantastic.

No, it is

Also, why is no one else saying the Born Ruffians album? :( It's by far my favourite album of the year so far. Also, the Mae Shi album really isn't very good.

you're right about born ruffians

it is a great, great album.

but the man man one is better.

agree

the man man is better, best album I've heard this year. True Fact.

I just listened to it again

I don't like it :(

born ruffian

supporting caribou in may too me thinks

thankyou

I thought I was the only one.

2008 albums? I hope you've got a lot of free time.

LOLOLOL

Yes to Fuck Buttons and The Mae Shi, definitely. Also the new Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!) and "The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull" by Earth.

The Hercules And Love Affair album sounded good on first listen, although I've not spent much time with it yet.

Distortion - The Magnetic Fields

Already seems to be pretty underrated.

Um

Algernon Cadwallader - Some Kind of Cadwallader
The Tallest Man On Earth- Shallow Grave
...Who Calls So Loud - s/t ep
Gregor Samsa - Rest
Xiu Xiu - Women As Lovers
Mount Eerie - Black Wooden Ceiling Opening
July Skies - The Weather Clock

you like

algernon c-wally? pretty much the biggest kinsella thieves everrrr

..still good though

july skies have got a new album out? awesome!

Some Kind of Cadwallader

My friend (who introduced me to TMV) says it isn't really. Argh!

I like it as much

as any of their albums.

Nah, its not their best

...but still worth a listen!

drive by truckers

Brighter than creation's dark is already the record of 2008, how come no-one ever mentions them on this site?!

Because they're fools.

FOOLS!

The Kills

Personally I think the first genuine masterpiece of the year is...

the unsung classic Dwell by The Envy Corps. More people should really hear it. Other mentions go to The Ruby Suns, Young Knives, Guillemots, Marah and Grand Archives.

times new viking - rip it off
foals - antidotes
these new puritans - beat pyramid

x

whoops

hmm dont know why i left a kiss.. oh fuck. enjoy the albums!

I agree re Dwell

- I ordered this last year, only for the release to get pulled. Sylvia is a really brilliant song.

The Monkeywrench

Gabriels horn, great messy garage rock from Mudhoneys Mark Arm

vampire weekend

definitely. Its a grower

M79 is a good song

I just can't appreciate or understand the musical merit of any of their other material.

Silver Mount Zion FTW

'1000000 died to make this sound' is the best track of the year.

Xiu Xiu - Women As Lovers!

and Times New Viking - Rip It Off.

awesomexcore.

.

Foals
Vampire Weekend
These New Puritans

all the cool ones, y'know.

PLUS

Jacob's Stories
Mystery Jets
and
Pete and the Pirates.

xiu xiu

the mae shi
why?

also

malcolm middleton

Let's Wrestle

.

Well now

If you like songs that tell stories and have intelligent lyrics go for Mountain Goats - 'Heretic Pride'

If you like beautiful female singers do soulful cover verisons go for Cat Power 'Jukebox'

If you are a fan of early Jesus and Mary Chain (and enjoy camping it up a bit) get Magnetic Fields 'Distortion'.

If you LOVE music and feel it throbbing in your soul get Silver Mt Zion's '13 blues for Thirteen Moons'.

There, done.

You've been kicking our arses musically

for about 20 years.

But

Yeah

But I sorta annexed Canada for the purposes of making my argument. :)

Ipanema

's self titled anthology. Released in memory of frontman Wiz who sadly passed away in December 06. It contains their singles, tracks off their 2005 mini album and demos - all of which are fantastic. It's just £10 from www.bosstuneage.com and all proceeds go to the Forward 4 Wiz Trust, set up to provide guidance and some financial assistance to up and coming musicians.

It's my fave album of the year. Have I sold it to you?

Jaguar Love

Demo. Ex Blood Brothers.

Is that out yet?!!!!

!!!!!!!

Samamidon - All is Well

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
REM - Accelerate
Hercules and Love Affair
Vampire Weekend
Black Mountain - In the Future
She and Him - Volume 1
Benga - Diary of an Afro Warrior

what i like so far..

new british sea power
mystery jets
why?
boris
xiu xiu

I reckon The Recovery self-named album

deserves a listen - four tracks are on LastFM. I think its outstandingly good for a little known band (they got third billing at Nott Bodega!).

so far..

2008 has provided me with very little which i've desperately wanted to seek out

the Earth album is pretty good (and the Evangelicals record has its moments), but neither have grabbed me in the same way that my favourite 2007 albums did

i declare 2008 a musical wash-out

Born Ruffians?

never heard of it

probably shit innit

No, it's probably amazing

Listen to it.

it's probably indie

therefore probably shit
