sooooo many to pick.....what a f**king great band....I need to crank them out later I think.
At a push i'd say my favourite album is Yield....just.......
about the last couple of albums being duff. They're one of the few bands that can consistently release records that I fall in love with. Every time.
Should be another one out this year - and I just know I'm going to play it to death.
Oh, and just for the record...
Vs > Vitalogy > Yield > No Code > Ten > Pearl Jam > Riot Act > Binaural
hundreds of PJ songs on my PC, all those live CDs they released, even though they're all pretty much identical, I've got most of them, including that 5-disc At The Gorge concert they did. I'm a bit obsessed with them...
but the gulf in quality between Ten and Pearl Jam on your list is huge. Fair play to them, they still deliver albums with the odd highlight on each; but you can't honestly tell me they're as good as the band they once were with a straight face, surely?
Best of tracklist
1. Go
2. Worldwide suicide
3. Brain of J
4. The whipping
5. Smile
6. I got ID
7. No way
8. Animal
9. Once
10. Alive
11. Footsteps
12. Release
13. Corduroy
14. Rearviewmirror
15. Last exit
16. Yellow Leadbetter
17. Given to fly
18. Present tense
Off their last album, Gone, Army Reserve, Marker In The Sand and Inside Job are all easily as good as anything in their back catalogue. Riot Act has I Am Mine, You Are, Save You, Green Disease... all brilliant songs.
They never do consistently great albums, they often tend towards filler, but the best songs on the albums they've released are all of a similarly high quality.. if that makes sense?
Also, they tour constantly so live they're a million miles better than they were in their Ten/Vs years. Matt Cameron drums for them now, how could they NOT be better?? Watch the Immagine In Cornice DVD, then watch Touring Band, then tell me I'm wrong!
They're still a great live band, and one that I want to see. Even then, they've still fallen off a bit in that area because the material has weakened. Compare the full "all killer, no filler" Atlanta set to their Reading set. The Reading show was still great, but the higlights were mostly from their earlier albums. Their musicianship has improved, no doubt, but you could say that about any career band
I get your point that they add a few great tracks to their back catalogue, but when you consider they used to deliver a minimum of six classics an album, you can see their creativity has waned since the end of the Nineties.
So less consistent live shows + less creative in the studio = Weaker band.
P.s. Immagine in Cornice is definitely better Touring band. But Touring band was a shocking DVD, which suffers from poor editing, bad camera work, uneven sound and lighting, and being culled from so many shows. It isn't really a fair comparision.
Yeah - took me a while to fully get into though. First time I heard it it struck me as being a bit Jack Johnson *shudder*
Appreciate it a lot more now, though - especially after seeing the film.
and responsible for two of the best gigs i've evr seen - brixton academy on the tour between 'ten' and 'vs' and their headline slot at reading - i've never seen a response like it and the set-list was immaculate.
i've loved them since i was a kid - they piss all over so many 'cool' bands.
loads
yes
loads AND loads.
Course!
I've had 'sometimes' in my head all morning
Sometimes is awesome
it sounds like a late night tune to me.
yep
much love
great love
whats wrong with you!
Gah!!!
....my sarcasometer is going haywire here. Stop toying with me!!
Yep
Up until Binaural they were a great band.
After that... n-n-n-no.
Still one of the 5 bands I want to see.
Binaural
is probably my least favourite thing they've released - mostly because of the god-awful production.
Their last album
and the album before that are both fairly duff, too. One or two decent tracks off each.
It's a shame they went to seed. But those first five albums are solid.
OMG yes

I agree with lots of your choices though.

one of my fav bands

Don't really agree

the gorge bootlegs
are amazing. the version of 'crown of thorns' is absolutely stunning

i never listen to them any more
but i loved ten when i was younger, and vs and vitalogy and yield, but not enough..
Loads of love and respect
Heads down, quietly getting on with making great records rather... Consistent quality...
I MISS YOU ALREADDDDDYYYYY
I MISS YOU ALREADDDYYYYY
Grabs the heart strings eerytime I hear it.
Also you cant argue with the beautiful chorus on Light Years......

^ This
True
State Of Love And Trust
Hidden away on the Singles soundtrack for all these years - although I think it ended up on their Best Of, didn't it?
*LIKE CRAAAAAAAAAYYYYZY
*LIKE CRAAAAAYYYYYYZY
Anyone
heard Eddie Vedder's solo album, Into The Wild yet? It's really really good.
Into The Wild
Yeah - took me a while to fully get into though. First time I heard it it struck me as being a bit Jack Johnson *shudder*
Appreciate it a lot more now, though - especially after seeing the film.
They have
been my favourite band for about 14 years now. The best live act I have ever seen by a country mile.
'Vitalogy'
is one of my favourite records of all time. I think 'Ten' is a big pile of cock-rock balls though.
Agree completely
I've been obsessed for roughly that long too! Blew my mind both times I saw them (Leeds 2006 and Wembley 2007).
what a band...
and responsible for two of the best gigs i've evr seen - brixton academy on the tour between 'ten' and 'vs' and their headline slot at reading - i've never seen a response like it and the set-list was immaculate.

This ^^^^^^^
dammit, I still haven't seen them live :(
Me neither :(
If you ever get tickets, save one for me!
Will do! ^^
Touring Band
is also a great DVD.....McCready is on fire I reckon.
Even though the guitarist is a
Montana Boy (like me), I have to say this band turns my stomach!
Oh gosh no.
Nasty stuff.
