I know I'm two years late here but I finally got this last week.
It's brilliant isn't it? I don't know why I've never got into Eels before...

im still not feeling it as much as albums 1-3
but its growing on me fast. i think its just cos its such a big record to get into.
having seen him in sheffield on sat night im goijng to listen to it all and give it a propoer chance,. cos he was awesome on sat night.
but i dont think it'll be able to top beautiful freak for me, which is probably one of the first albums ive ever actually loved and would mention in the same breath as daydream nation or other such masterworks
youve just got to love E really, even through the amazing tragedy that is his life, he still manages to uplift so many people in such a profound way. he is one of my heroes
Beautiful album Blinking Lights
I also LOVE Souljacker......
Souljacker Part 1 is one of my favourite songs ever!
I love
Dasies From The Galaxy it's a great album i could listen to it over and over again.
I couldn't leave this
album alone when I first got it, played it over and over for at least a month. Superb, such depth to it. He just flows so easily from heartbreakers to the uplifting. Love it !
hate to be the pedant but its 2005 isn't it ?
It's great
But then Eels generally is.
Like a lot of double albums it could do with a bit of pruning, but there are a lot of gems on it.
Electroshock Blues is still their high watermark so far though.
it's very inconsistent
has loads of tracks I could happily skip. I think it would probably make a really good 12 track album though.
Apparently their earlier albums are a lot better though. I dunno.
I'll be honest...
I've had it since it came out and I can't remember a damn thing on it. It's not even that it's a double album - I could sing you every song off the Pumpkins' Mellon Collie... but compared to earlier Eels output, it just never sticks in my mind. I keep meaning to put it on rotation some day and see if anything leaps out at me. I *know* there's some lovely stuff on it. I'm just buggered if I can remember what, exactly.
I have the same problem
I've tried a few times with it. I'll have another go soon.
It's the closest he's come
to matching Electro-Shock Blues. It's incredible. And I don't think it could be trimmed, at all. It's just such a complete picture of Everett's life and a great overview of Eels as a band.
If you can, get the Live At Town Hall DVD. The playlist is pretty evenly spread across the whole Eels catalogue, but the style is closest to that on BL&OR. It's incredible, especially if you really empathise with Mark. Emotionally powerful.
From Which I Came/
A Magic World is one of the best Eels songs ever, so heartfelt
yes
2nd, 3rd and 4th that. Think its my favourite Eels song.
Cheers
I may take that advice...
Try these
Old s**t new s**t - surf guitars, out beach-boying the beach boys
Railroad man - fnest thing he's ever done, really moving
Things the grandchildren should know - almost as good as a finisher as PS you rock this world
I know what you mean, though, double albums can often be a lot of hassle.
Personally I find a few highlights and then listen to the disc with them on again and again - like a single album. And then it's easier to get.
And then I try the other disc
But it takes so much more time.
Unfair to compare against Mellon Collie, quite possibly the world and his dog's favourite double-album of all time
Personally,
Things The Grandchildren Should Know is the the best album closer he's ever done. That and Railroad Man are such so tragic and beautiful.
