Burn Piano Burn lacks variety, and Young Machetes is a bit scatterbrained. Both excellent nonetheless.

but compared to what they evolved into, it's not really up there with the likes of the major 3 albums they recorded after 'March on Electric Children.'

It's still kind of nasty, but they seemed more comfortable with what they were doing. YM is still amazing, but it's missing something. That said, Vital Beach and Giant Swan off of YM are fucking amazing songs.

My a million miles. It might be in my top 10 favourite albums of all time. The Ross Robinson production really brought out the best in them, just as it did for At the Drive In.

for me, as I neglected to explore them until Young Machetes, was going to get a ticket to ULU before it passed, and then they split up...
I ADORE Young Machetes and've got Ambulance vs. Ambulance on 7", but where else should I go? Burn, Piano Island, Burn, sounds/looks good, right?

but I adore YM and BPIB.
They took everything I love about rock and threw it into their stuff; great live act, awesome lyrics, nuts instrumentation, RIFFS and just plenty of WTF moments to keep you guessing. They were very close to my heart and people who haven't should give them the time of day.
Crimes is also my fave album cover ever.

has the right mix of shared vocals (as opposed to later albums of pure Johnny tracks) and the storytelling is amazing, the chaos of sound has never been beaten and tracklisting wise is their best. Ah, it's so much better than Crimes and YM.

they never wrote a 100% fully consistent, obvious "best album". Each of them have their patchy patches, however brief. Contained within their last three albums, however, is some of my favourite music ever written.
Which is why I can never reply to "top X albums ever" topics.

bizzarely...i only listened to blood brothers for the first time about 10 days ago! mate lent me their cd. first 2 tracks off young machetes are great!!! atonal lovelyness. hardcore yet poppy.

its amazing. but good order otherwise.
Well,
as much as I like ¨Feed Me To The Forest¨, Blood Brothers have proved that they know how to start an album better. Also, ¨The Shame¨ and ¨Giant Swan¨ are probably better closers, even though ¨everybody needs a little devastation¨ gets stuck in my head all the time.
And sometimes my attention starts to waver around Wolf Party and Celebrator. Tiny little stuff like that - for me Crimes is a solid 9. And so not perfect.
