Who is going or thinking of going? Tickets are £60 this year which sucks a bit. Web tickets go on sale Wednesday if you are registered.

To go or not to go?

i am thinking of going

i will ask my friends and see what they say (probably no).

I would definitely have gone...

were it not for the clash with Latitude.

I still think that the 60 quid represents the best deal of the festival season!

I was going to post something lame about 'the vibe'

but then I remembered that I always criticise Glastonbury apologists for coming out with the same thing!

To be honest, last year wasn't a great Truck all told, it just didn't feel the same, but, that's understandable given the flood, etc

Trucks 8 & 9 were great though.

^ thus

I didn't give much of a damn about the music last year, and while I enjoyed it massively it just wasn't up to the usual standards as a result.

Dunno. Might go to Latitude instead.

Truck will be great

and £60 is still ridiculously cheap for a weekend festival, although i'm not sure what kind of bands people seem to expect for that money. nobody's actually said who they'd like to see, just that the line up is shit.

is it just me or is everyone being somehwat overcritical this year? already.

maybe

but it's more the fact that the price has risen a lot over the last few years with no real change to the quality of the lineup. Probably

there's been a MASSIVE change to the quality of the lineup

A couple of years back it was actually good.

Still tempted, but also tempted by Latitude.

.

i think the lineup has got a lot better. people are being very unfair on last year's truck - admittedly the lineup wasn't all that great but it was a rescheduled event and frankly a miracle that it went ahead at all! and i still had a really awesome time.

and the year before that, when it went ahead at the time it was supposed to, the lineup was absolutely fantastic given the price!

no

I enjoyed last year's, but the lineup was poor even before it was rescheduled.

To my ears.

examples!

i know i shouldn't really get involved, but give us some examples of the poor line up...

fuck, it used to be full of bands that hardly anyone had heard of an dpeople loved it, now it has some familiar names and everyone's got the knives out.

Had it gone ahead last year

Jack Penate would have headlined the Barn.

Well

he wont be headlining it this year, that's for sure!

you don't give examples of a poor lineup

A poor lineup means there's very little of interest. I could go on for days about all the decent bands that didn't play, but that's not how it works.

The only bands I enjoyed that I hadn't heard before were Fuck Buttons and Metronomy, whereas in previous years I'd discovered about half a dozen decent ones. And there weren't all that many that I already enjoyed that were playing.

Don't you dare impugn my reasons for disliking the lineup - I haven't got the knives out because of the familiar names - I just got bored by all the dross that I heard. I even went so far as to point out that the lineup was poor *to MY ears*. Jesus.

woah

i knew i shouldn't have got involved, the internet has a habit of creating misunderstandings...

anyway this was just a general comment arfie on feedback seen so far, not an attack on you or your reasons for not liking the line up!

glad to hear you like fuck buttons and metronomy though, to be honest the trailerpark tent last year was pretty much the best for me and i'd have picked a lot of the same bands had i been doing a stage last year.

we don't want to just repeat the same lime up as last year though, so this year will be a bit different...

different?

Hence Youthmovies.

Not that I'm complaining.

I think

it's more that it's now up against two festivals, Latitude and Camp Bestival, with more resources and from-scratch cachet to get huge headliners but aiming for a similar demographic, and it's perceived that last year's initial bill wasn't up to scratch because different people were booking it.

^this

pretty much

I'd like to see my band playing...

Ady! :D

Truckworthy: Future of the Left, Blood Red Shoes, Charlottefield, Buttonhead, Be Your Own Pet, Deerhunter (or Atlas Sound), Part Chimp, Pre, Mika Miko, Johnny Foreigner... would Trail of Dead be hard to get now they're unsigned or not?

I'm not going to go, I don't think

It'll set me back a oner before I even get there. I'm going to see Europe, man, EUROPE.

Lineup isn't that great

will it get better? Will it sell out before it does?

Line up

Don't think I'll be able to afford it but I don't think line up looks that bad to be fair.

Eg
Liars
Youthmovies
Final Fantasy
This Town Needs Guns
Dirty Projectors
Kid606

Pardon?

Have they just announced some new additions?

Yep

Vacuous pop have announced their line up on myspace as have ABORT, RETRY, FAIL? but rather strangely the myspace bulletin seems to have vanished!

wut?

Where/when were Liars, FF and Kid606 announced?

^

this.

if they are all playing then i'm going to do a sexwee

hmm

to clarify

If it's a joke, it's a fucking unpleasant one to pull, since it's likely to affect whether people go for Truck over Latitude or whatever that weekend.

it was an April Fool apparently

many apologies but I was certainly taken in by it I have to admit (after seeing Regina and Battles there before)

ah

very true - had not considered that (probably due to the fact that I read it at two in the morning)!

Although

"Liars and Final Fantasy are playing!" is a fairly esoteric choice of Truck-related April Fool. At least they could have made it ground drainage-related.

How about

Noah and the Whale?

oooooo

k

.

wait what?

i dont think i will

i vow to never camp again unless its for a VERY good reason.
£60 is how much primavera tickets were when they were first on sale.

Why not

book a B&B? Follow me into the coward's way out.

never heard it

called that before

tickets purchased

but I'm not happy about having to pay £5 to park

^ parking goes to charity though...

just bought mine, before i knew about this even more impressive line-up. can't wait to see some of those bands.

Off to Melt! this year instead

Truck was majorly dissapointing last year.

sam isaac

is playing too. :D

don't know if that swings any one.

Dunno.

I really enjoyed it last year. I may see what else is on though. Also, depends if I can actually get any of my mates to organised properly.

what's the line up like?

Their site only lists 3 headliners I don't want to see and some comedians.

Truck is dead....

The price is going up quicker than Reading. First one I went to (5 or 6?) was £20/25. When TCT got involved the line-up started including amazing up and coming bands as well as a handful of credible 'big' names.

Last year, even before the unfortunate flood the line-up was awful. Self indulgence from the Bennet family. The media interest and crowd started getting bigger when names such as Regina Spector, Futureheads, Biffy etc… headlined. How can you expect the kids who came to see Futureheads be excited about Maude and Garth Hudson and pay more for the privilege!?

For the organisers to suggest how cheap it is when other ‘small’ festivals listed above have FAR superior line-ups and facilities for maybe £40 more per ticket.

Truck needs a major shake-up if it is to successfully continue.

^ agreed

My main gripe with Truck, however, is that there are far too many 16 year olds. But then I'm a miserable old cunt.

tell me about it

even when I crawled into a tent full of 16 year old girls with my stubby cock poking out of my bloostained jeans they just sprayed me in the face with a can of Sure.

fun

I tried a more subtle approach - this girl asked to borrow a can opener, so I found a can opener for her to borrow. She was very grateful, but I forgot to take advantage of that.

Not that, HER.

^not agreed

The price is fairly realistic of the processes involved. It's a small, independent festival, and has no real corporate sponsorship, so it's kinda inevitable that ticket prices might have to be higher.

On the other hand, I do kinda agree the line-up last year was... subdued if anything. And even then, Foals pretty much headlined the Saturday night, and Idlewild were actually ace. Whilst I wasn't watching Metronomy.

If anything, the tone of the festival is slightly different, and with Wood being pretty much a folk festival with indie bits on it, so perhaps the emphasis of the festival is shifting slightly.

Whatever, it's still pretty much a highlight of the summer for me. I'm kinda involved with it, but I'd still go whatever.

Maybe it's because it was my first

and it was really warm (apart from the two hours of torrential rain, obvs), but Truck Nine does feel like something of an apex - genuine pre-festival excitement on DiS, inventive booking and it was still sufficiently 'underground'. Last year felt incredibly odd even before the cancellation, what with the long wait before any official announcements and having Garth Hudson and a band promoting a Greatest Hits headlining. I will go, but it almost feels at the moment like an obligation, being within 100 miles and just about personally affordable. I kind of hope with bringing others on board that the lessons from last year have been heeded to some extent.

Yes, spot on.

For 25 quid alllll the way back in 2004, we had this http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/9687

Maybe it was the planets aligning for me, but 80s Matchbox, Kaito, Sons and Daughters and Buck 65 (even if he plays every year) are 4 of my favourites.

Got a vague memory Maximo Park were buried somewhere on this bill as unknowns as well?

Easily justifiable for 25 quid anyway. And the nearby pub had a pig on a spit. And I wasn't weary of all the folky acts who play every single damn year.

Victim of its own success too perhaps. Back then, it didn't sell out until perhaps a month before, making it much easier to get others (and yourself) organised. Now even at the high prices, it will sell out within a couple of days.

80's Matchbox

Was that really 2004! wow

How amazing were they that year, awesome!

i went to this

it were awesome. I wore a t-shirt from the festival to a Maximo Park instore and they noted that they were indeed a late addition to the lineup. Pity they didn't tell more than about 3 people.

That was my first one!

Those were the days...

25 quid in 2004

when it first went on sale, then it went up to £35, and maybe even more on the gate if there were any spares. I think this "discount" always helped with initial sales, not sure if they still do that though.

Due to the big charity aspect of Truck though, most of those bands would have played for free or just very basic expenses, and these days nearly all bands have an agent of some kind, even bands that you wouldn't expect to and these are the savvy guys that cut the deal, thus increasing the overall costs just for bands alone.

Also bands aren't cheap, not by any means! I've been quite shocked at the prices given to me when looking into a few ideas, so based on those few have had to scrap a load of bands that were on our list without even investigating possibilities further!

For me

the festival just doesn't any longer justify the price given how sharply they have risen. Of course this is also true of most major festivals e.g Reading costing more than ATP.

after

going to truck 9, but missing last year, i am intrigued to see how things have changed.

The flood last year seriously damaged that line up but yeah i do agree, the line up was not as strong as it was the year before.

But what has to be acknowledged is the fact that the truckers will pull it out of the bag.

If you were to arrange this years festibal, who do you believe should headline.

good question

or if it was like "vs the fans", who would you vote for to play?

I think I read somewhere

that Battles were planning to play some festivals in July, and they played and I missed them at Truck Nine - they couldn't, could they?

In terms of who I'd like to see, if we're going down this path, not being in London there's loads of bands who'll probably never come round here I'd like to see: FOTL, Anathallo if they're around, Broken Records, Let's Wrestle, Gindrinker, Wake The President, Thirty Pounds Of Bone... I'd also like LC! to be there, but they seem to be in Spain that weekend, and I'm guessing Jonquil will be back, as I wasn't in the right frame of mind to enjoy them last year.

I don't think Anathallo will be back

until September. They would've been brilliant to have at Truck

Anathallo?

isn't that one of the 3 muskateers, or maybe a mutant ninja turtle?

some good ones there simon

and plenty of unknowns, for me anyway.

at least one of those was on my list but despite repeated emails to contact them about playing i still haven't received any replies so looks like i'll have to scrub them off my list too...

I think I can guess which

as they haven't responded to a couple of interview requests either.

If I'm actually part-programming the thing I'll throw in the Dirty Backbeats, who I see all the time as it is but I suspect would storm at least the Lounge.

yeah

i think it's probably the same one then, and not even a response from their manager either. shame though cos I really like them and they'd be fantastic at Truck.

Anyway, it's probably down to karma and it's coming back at me for not being able to keep up with / not replying to all the emails/myspaces i get. i suffer from information overload though so that's my excuse!

I am a self declared email bankrupt!

Battles

They'd definitely be beyond our budget for Truck so probably a no go.

I never had much joy when I tried to book them in the past, and no doubt they're well out of my price range now so I've given up on ever booking them!

:-(

obviously

a really stupid idea for a post then... ah well.

The first ATP...

was £90!

Amazing!

who actually

does the booking for Truck these days? I seem to remember someone saying something about there being a big schism between the organisers and that's why last year's line-up ended up being a bit disappointing compared to Truck 9.

I'll be interested to see what the lineup looks like this year, even in a weak year there's always a fair few good bands.
