hullo,
am going to LA on the way to Coachella in a few weeks time and just trying to ensure i do and see enough stuff. already got the elliott smith memorial wall, watching Health at The Smill, a trip to ameoba records and universal studios on my list but there must be more great indie-music haunts, r'n'r landmarks and cult movie kindsa places that i'm not thinking of as my mind is slush.
what things have you lot enjoyed there?
ta,
sean

gah
i'm jealous. go hang around silverlake and indie celeb spot?
mann's chinese theatre
overdose
outside the Viper Rooms
i think
OceanRain is from LA? Where are you, OceanRain?
I am
uhm, the troubadour is the best club. You can hang out at the Silverlake Lounge for la hipster fun... gotta go to Canter's deli for jew food...oh, Zancou (sp?) Chicken has awesome pita wrap things... Hollywood Blvd for weirdos and dance troupes that spin on their heads 'n stuff...is there really an elliot smith memorial wall, hmm? but I think he used to buy his drugs in MacArthur Park or maybe the one by the Echoplex...anyway, ah the Viper Room is cool, though I don't know if Johnny Depp still owns it...your record company pals will probably turn you onto the nite clubs I no longer frequent and couldn't get into anyway...I dunno there's rodeo drive, bel aire, beverly hills area around westwood for movie stars you probably won't see (but maybe a couple)...uhm, I'd go to the Laguna Beach tide pools, and Santa Anita racetrack and the Getty Museum...I dunno, you'll figure it out. You can call me, of course... I'll pm you my phone number. I'll teach you how to surf!
oh yeah
The NuArt plays cult films. I saw William Burrough's do an insane reading there after a documentary of his showed.
Best celebrity spotting
A couple months ago walking down Hollywood Blvd after a Yo La Tengo gig... we spotted Andy Dick buying crack. Awesome!
and...
it has rocky horror on at midnight every saturday?!
do you really not know about the ES thing?

thanks for all of this
Go to the Smill and wonder why its not the Smell?
whoops
i wonder if
they still do the warner bros. studio tour in burbank. it's more a tour of the working studio rather than rides & stuff, plus you get to see the set of E.R.
omg
i did that, except i saw the set of friends, not e.r. hmmmm, cool though
have
you ever been to Coachella before?
sick festival, so damn hot in those tents but totally worth it.
not been before
but been warned. am sharing a house nearby which because of the price of the pound was pretty cheap.
That reminds me
You may wish to bring an empty suitcase and hit Melrose for a clothes shopping spree.
Getty Museum
Rhino records, assuming it's still open.
Go to Melrose and spend all your spending money in the cool clothes stores.
cool?
Melrose Avenue
most amazing street of vintage and thrift stores aswell as american apparel etc.
Go and see
either Killola or AAnchors AAweigh (ie The Blood Arm and friends). Both play around L.A. all the time.
Check what in on at The Hollywood Bowl...
It's a pretty impressive venue and there is something slightly surreal about watching a gig with the Hollywood Hills as a backdrop.
Mulholland Drive
is pretty mint for a drive. Obviously you're not going to see any blue keys etc, but the scenery is quality.
La Brea Tar Pits are pretty cool too.
