I finally got round to listening to these guys for the first time the other day ("What Does Anything Mean? Basically") and I really enjoy it. I know this particular sort of post-punk seems quite unfashionable at the moment (at least it seems to me... the sort of cascading guitar and 80s drums might have something to do with it) So really, what should I listen to next of theirs? And also anything else vaguely related that sounds good would be much appreciated.

Script Of The Bridge

has some quality stuff but, overall, The Chameleons are a Championship band, next to U2's Premier League. I never liked their vocals - too much screaming and a bit out of tune for my taste.

Yeah I'll

admit the vocals are a bit off putting. A lot of these forgotten post punk bands are quite interesting, but theres a similarity in the vocal line that strikes me as a bit too much of its time...strangely flat..it veers into some satisfying places, but nowhere near as often as it should.

Strange Times

Get hold of the release with the extra CD if you can - it has their version of Tomorrow Never Knows on there which is amazing.

I've got Strange Times and

Script of the bridge recently and I think they're both excellent.

Elements of shoegaze and post punk-brilliant.

Strange Times and Script of the Bridge are ace

What Does Anything Mean...isn't

The Chameleons are ace, one of the really underrated bands of the 80s, like the Auteurs are of the 90s.

Get the Best Of CD

Return Of The Roughnecks, it's pretty amazing from start to finish, and probably explains where the likes of Interpol and Editors to name but two came from.

that's for sure...
