something like "we haven't played in front of a pizza hut for about ten years". you forgot the burger king, the sports bars, and the 5000 bad haircuts.
if you plonked yourself right in the middle the sound was amazing, but was awful if you were too far to the sides. That Shellac show on the main stage was just amazing at the vs the fans one.
I understand they have improved that stage too with some kind of curtaining. Not sure what though.
Shellac were great at the main stage - you had to be right at the front to really enjoy it though. Yo La Tengo, Mogwai and Slint were really lost on the stage when I was standing nearer the back.
What are the venues like at Camber Sands? Can I expect queues or is it pretty easy to see what you want?
You only have to queue to get into the second stage when there is a bigger band playing. The main stage at Camber is where I have seen some of the best sets of music in my lyfe. Not to mention the best sound.
The main stage at Minehead is like festival sound. It hardly seems worth paying all that money.
seen some of the emails atp got after the queueing thing at NBC, you'd know why they had to go with the pavilion...you've never heard indie miffling like it.
there were only ever queues for what was being used as the main stage, which i guess is now the second stage. At least that I saw, but then when we went to see bands we either got there 10 minutes before or halfway through the set. I think the real issue with that ATP was everyone wanting to see the same band at the same time, and turning up right as it was due to start. I didn't have to queue once (aside from Sonic Youth), and all the queues I saw were for bands like Gang of Four and the MC5 - maybe if some of the major bands had been put at the same time on different stages you'd have avoided the bottlenecking.
That main room was almost always completely devoid of atmosphere too, and Red's was pretty awful because the acoustics in there mean you can hear every bit of chatter - the quieter sets in there were pretty much completely ruined.
Crazy Horse had a problem with the smoke alarm and the bar, but it was easily the best stage to watch bands. I appreciate that it's pretty small, but there weren't any shows in there that were too rammed.

thread
Camber stinks
All about the Minehead. And am pushing to get it upgraded to a Centre Parcs as soon as possible.
Fuck that
I want it in Futureworld. Canoodling with a robot mediaeval waif while listening to Broken Social Scene. Freaky.
Smog and Shellac
Didn't play the Gallo one did they? I'm sure that was 2002.
Minehead wouldnt be so bad
if the main stage weren't so shite. Looking forward to being back in Camber again.
I like the main stage

ts like an eastern bloc prison
Which is of course kind of fun, but I think I would struggle to go back to Camber after the relative luxury of Minehead.
Most importantly, no lazy river, and the beds would be too small for a nine year old.
I <3 Camber

the main stage at minehead
has vastly improved since last summer. now it's fully curtained to create a sort of tunnel effect, and the sound was much much better at christmas.
bring back crazy horse!
:'(
if you'd
seen some of the emails atp got after the queueing thing at NBC, you'd know why they had to go with the pavilion...you've never heard indie miffling like it.
Yeah, the queueing really sucked.
But then getting to see bands you love with naff sound isn't loads better.
The Cat Power set at Dirty Three was horrifying.
i dont think that had much
to do with the sound.
Ha
perhaps not.
thing is
there were only ever queues for what was being used as the main stage, which i guess is now the second stage. Ah, problem here.

forgetting that Pitchfork ATP is at Camber, and when I remember I always do a :D
