theatrical, excessive music. I mean, music that is OTT with its theatrical writing, like a musical, but wrapped in band form. Any genre/mix will do.

Examples I can think of are Foetus, Infinity by Devin Townsend, most of Queen's music. I want more music like that, no subtlities, just theatrical, huge production, horn sections, orchestras, full choirs, walls of noise!

Rufus Wainwright

I suggest for quality get the album Poses, even though the Want series are more theatrical, but they are definitely very overlong.

Diamond Dogs

The Soft Bulletin maybe

uhm, this new Black Angels record I've been listening to invokes images of Apocalyspe Now big time. It's frackin awesome.

Yeah, check out The Black Angels, pinball, if you like psych stoner-rock.

Ah

now I reread ... BA probably ain't what you're looking for. I dunno. Diamond Dogs, I guess. Good nite, man.

I already saw Black Angels live

when I saw QOTSA in Toronto. They were pretty good but repetitive after about 40 minutes! Thanks for the suggestion though!

have you heard

the SuperMayer remix of Tiergarten by Rufus Wainright?

OH!

Scott Walker: Scott's 1-4.

FUCK!

NO ONE HAS MENTIONED SPARKS!

Try

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum

Jens Lekman

nah

he's not massively OTT is he?

Efterklang

Sufjan

I have a feeling...

...that Mercury Rev fall into this category - particularly "Deserter's Songs".

^

Some of the songs feel like they should be played at 3am in the morning fullblast with the windows open (don't ask me how i know this).

Patrick Watson

^

Patrick Watson any good? They've kinda been on my to-do list.

I don't know

I've only heard one song, but it sounds pretty much exactly like what pinballfortress wants.

Fantomas- The Directors Cut?

Not theatrical per se, but it is a reworking of cinematic themes. Does that count? (please let it count)

The Locust Years LP by

Hammers of Misfortune definitely has a whiff of the rock opera about it.
