do they have much of a following.... they are playing a series of tribute shows in USA at the moment, to the deceased member charles gosher. playing sun city girls songs live for the final time. im thinking of getting them for an event i am putting on in august, but wondering if they have many fans as they are expensive.

Do it!
They aren't much more than a 'cult' band but they have a pretty obsessive fan base and I'm sure a lot of people would want to come out for their last ever shows. They went down well at Thurston Moore's ATP and so did Sir Richard Bishop on his recent tour.
I'd go.
They were ace at ATP, and their records are too.
what are they like?
i love sir richard bishop but i'm yet to hear scg for some reason.
Jazz/Punk
They do noise
and weird vocals and middle eastern influenced stuff as well. They are all ower the shop.

i'm trying not to sound like a know-it-all fool but it is difficult :(
Possibly do it!
Up here (Newcastle) there are a fair few people who would definitely go and that is the kind of thing that people would travel to see I reckon.
i'd love to seem them again
i was terribly drunk during their set at atp and massively regret not remembering a great deal of it.
Me too :(
I was sitting not paying very much attention. All I can remember is some funny surf music and Uncle Jim.
I'm sure you...
...could easily book them a short UK tour to bring the price down for the a one-off show, granted it won't give your Manchester show the exclusive but never-the-less.
Do it!
I'd definitely go!
I have a great album by them called Torch Of The Mystics
does anyone have other albums they can recommend?
Get
Grotto of Miracles, duuuude.
