OK confession time. My first gig was a T'Pau gig. The next one wasn't much better (Fine Young Cannibals). This was only because my mate at school mad an agreement that he'd come and see James/Inspiral carpets with me if I went to his choices (once upon a time, Insipral Carpets and James were good, honest!)
Anyone willing to share their other embarrasing gigs? Admittedly the FYC one was enjoyable so I guess its a guilty pleasure. It had the La's supporting!!

the bravery supported by hard fi
i was standing next to Gary Numan.
Taking Back Sunday
supported by My Chemical Romance...
I win.
noyou dont, TBS are awesome
thats not bad
i saw tbs on that tour they were awesome
Elliot Minor at the Limelight.
=(
I had to review it.
=(
I left after about 5 songs. How's THAT for dedication.
.

Toploader at Reading Hexagon
that literally sounds like the apocalypse.
it was disgusting
everybody's dancing in the moonlight.
the babyshambles supported by the holloways
really really horrible
a rasta came on near the end and jumped up and down with a mic, saying something
i still think about it reguarly
Gary Glitters Christmas spectacular
Gang Show 1989/90.
It was awful.
The Brighton Centre!! Lets not forget how HUGE Gary Glitter was. Musically speaking.
I'm serious.Easily the worst gig I've ever seen - most embarrassed....
^
This is less of a thread, and more of a self-help support group!!!
It wasn't my idea:)
My brothers girlfriend tok me - she got free tickets.
My mum used to do a lot of work for...
Simply Red. I've probably seen them 30 times or so.
I used to work for McFly too... likewise.
God. :(
I saw Simply Red support
UB40 on the Rat In Me Kitchen tour at the Brighton Centre. Is that embarrassing? It was around the time of their first single Moneys Too Tight To Mention.
had tickets for the last one,
but he never showed up. he's got a reputation for being a right cunt.
steps
on that tour they did in the 90s that had about 80 shows.
it was ace!
I don't think I've been to any embarrassing gigs really,
but I did unfortunately catch a few seconds of Daniel Powter at V festival.
I was there to see Radiohead, ok?
did you
have a nice day?
bad day
:D
I saw him accidentally too
it was funny.
Radiohead were awesome.
Yeah, they were.
I've just remembered I saw Keane before Radiohead on that very same day.
The confessions are rolling out now.....
Woo!
I saw them at Ashton Court festival in about 2001. Absurdly fun.
Bon Jovi at Hyde Park
I was only supposed to meet up with some mates for a drink before hand. Ended up getting pissed and some tosser offered me a ticket for a stupidly low price.
Tell anyone else and I'll have to cut you.
STING'S SON!
^This is beginning to look like
becoming a DiSism.
Ross Can
My first ever gig that my first serious band played at.
We rocked up at a local pub and asked if we could play, the barman said yes.
Needless to say the barman regretted it, after about 10 minutes when we emptied the whole pub.
my first
gig was New Kids on the Block at birmingham NEC...i went with my mum and i couldnt understand why there wasnt many other boys there. my mum could.
so jealous
I never got to see them. I <3 NKOTB.
i have two:
keane and sandi thom. both free, both times guilt-tripped into going with a friend. incidentally, i am no longer friends with this person.
(also s club 7 for my 11th birthday, but i'm not going to lie, that was awesome)
fightstar
supported by youthmovies in november 2004
moreso because the audience consisted of 40 year old women and 12 year old girls...
Killer Queen
Queen Tribute band, Fort Regent, Jersey.
*end thread*
Magic
Queen Tribute Band, Place Theatre, Skegness.
Good times.
When I was 16 I got talked into seeing the Spice Girls at Wembley.
To be honest they were much better than Cleopatra, who were supporting.
The gig was disturbing though as
a) We seemed to be the oldest people there who weren't parents.
b) The place was full of girls (and I literally mean girls) in miniskirts.
I mean I'm no kind of prude or whatever but I just don't get why anyone would let their 10 or 12 year old dress up in revealing clothes. It's not something anyone wants to see really. I mean obviously some people do but that just makes it worse...
i too saw the spice girls
but that was just of the thing to do back then -- dress up as your favorite spice girl (mine was ginger). when they did their US tour, ginger had quit the band. needless to say, little 10-year-old me was pretty upset about it but i'm not going to lie, i had a blast at the show! :)
most embarrassing show when i was old enough to know better: smile empty soul and three days grace. EWWWW.
3 good ones
1st gig - Air Supply (age 8)
3rd gig - Debbie Gibson (age 12)
2006 gig - Caribou (age 30) was completely smashed and was talking with Dan after the gig for 5 minutes making an ass of myself. this one is most embarrasing.
Hard Fi
yep
saw them at some festival
Which tells you how good the rest of the lineup was.
I liked their Morricone ripoffs, though;
"Oh, that's The Man With the Harmonica"
"It's a melodica, you twat."
Fun times.
Donovan at Green Man
Cod-carribbean "ello dare mon" throughout, punctuating some great music.
there is nothing wrong with donovan
have you ever heard 'Jersey Thursday'?
Mellow Yellow!
I adore that track.
Showing my age now
1st gig: Paul Young, Brighton Centre when i was about 9.
Lots of dodgy hair metal and cheesy rock gigs during my mid-teens.
Status Quo christmas gig when i was 15. Loved it at the time though.
Since then i've (hopefully) gotten a little more discerning about music, but seeing Feeder about 3 years ago was a low point. I only went because my Mum wanted to go.
the fratellis
supported by the deplorable on/offs. and i missed england sweden in the world cup. i blame me ex girlfriends birthday. fratellis and football in 1 post...pass me the bushmills
first 3
leads me to think about my first three gigs:
gig 1 - cable @ lemon tree.
gig 2 - oasis @ AECC
gig 3 - radiohead @ AECC.
Cable was by far the best. Oasis embarrasing? At the time no, i was like 13.
Hear say
( :( )
And some horrific festival where Busted, Mcfly, Blue and Natasha Bedingfield played.
The View
last year, friends get together, must confess I did have the album, supported by Towers of London - boy, were they shit. The highlight was the roadie who looked like Gollum, must have been somebody's junkie uncle or something....
actually......
I saw People in Planes at the the Fly last year and the support - whose name I can't remember - were right miserable fuckers and were turned up way too loud. After three songs, I walked back upstairs and realised I was the last to leave........not even any mates to play to......
Paramore. Twice.
On boyfriend duty, you understand. The first time was reasonably okay but that second time was just terrifying. Literally the youngest crowd I have ever encountered, with an abundance of little girls in pink miniskirts alternately chasing and swinging each other around. Fresh faced boys asking us to buy them beer. A (thankfully) short set due to the fact that, one can only guess, the majority of the audience had parents in waiting outside.
I was almost certainly the third oldest in the entire place, and I was 22. Even my boyfriend and his mate found the playground atmosphere a little on the side of unnerving, despite them both being hardened emo gig attendees used to being surrounded by people literally half their age.
paramore
rock.
God damn.
I never know if people are being serious anymore.
dead
serious.
dead wrong too
pfft
.
Heh, nah, it's always heartening to find people on here
man enough to admit to liking bands that are generally ripped to shreds on here.
I mean, I thought the first Kaiser Chiefs album was genuinely ace.
I actually really like Paramore
but I'd be too embarrassed going to see them just because of how old I'd be in comparison to everyone else, and I'm only 21! It was bad enough when I went to see Panic At The Disco a few years ago, and I was only 19 then.
AHEM
-Boyzone
-Westlife
-Audioslave, but i had a BRILL time
-Kasabian...pretty much the same.
There are so many more that i can't remember just now.
I saw Sugababes
..at the World Bowl in Glasgow, was hilarious!
mcr
4 times
Pigeon Detectives
Supported by Cheap Motel and Pull Tiger Tail, it was quite fun... but I was very pissed.
saw the Pigeon Detectives at RB's in Chester
in front of about 20 people. We stumbled in there after spending a day going round the pubs and I had no idea who they were at the time, but they were embarrassingly poor.
Hard Fi
Ordinary Boys
Dead 60s
In the same night.
Oh and I saw The Cranberries, supported by Dodgy, when I was 10.
Peter Andre
at a nightclub in York.
Oh, and the Scissor Sisters, but they were actually really enjoyable.
Kid Rock
The Rasmus
this thread was done a few weeks back
In 6th Form I took a train to Manchester to see
Haven.
Robbie Williams
but it was about 10 yrs ago and I was about 13.
Going to see Girls Aloud in May too, but this is with the GF.
Embarrassing for the band ... I saw Blood Brothers supported by the Winnebago Deal, about 20 people there (pre Burn Piano ... tour) and everyone just heckled Winnebago Deal until they just gave up and left, what a shit band!
oh dear..
right about a yr or 2 ago.. funeral for a friend :/ my mate loved 'em and excitedly surprised me when he bought me a ticket to go see them with him too.. oh. yay.
<3 funeral for a friend
i love how many bands people are admitting to that i have seen or want to!
*wistful sigh*
i'd LOVE to see fine young cannibals
The first gig I went to was B*Witched
Embarassing to admit, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! There's still something to be said for the days when 'gigs' were just a load of nine and ten year olds stood awkwardly with their parents! I have to say, I don't think my Dad had the best night of his life...
he probably did
though whether it was for the music or because he wanted to bang them all, bar the second one from the right, we shall never know...
Uggghhhh....
Hard-Fi gets it for me. I got given a free ticket, so i thought that going would at least be better than kicks in and around my genitals.
That would have been a better option.
I had to leave when that cock singer started asking us 'are you feeling the love?', and so i hit the bar. Obviously, it wasn't just me who was having issues - the bar was 5 deep. Unbelievable bullshit!
Jet
Hard-Fi, Kasabian all for the love of my woman. Thankfully not on the same bill though.. Or is that worse because I've wasted three nights of my life ?
Fast Food Rockers
I was 20, a student and I thought it was fucking great. And wearing a Shellac t-shirt. I pulled with that t-shirt that night.
funeral for a friend.
i loved it too. (this was the casually dressed tour)
Not embarrassed
I've seen FFAF about 7 times, Im not embarrassed, but only 1 of these was after the release of Casually dressed. I loved the EPs when they first came out, not a fan of any of the albums though.
Slipknot secc 2001
(lol) it was valentines day as well!! full of 14 year old kids with the parents standing at the back horrified!!! also
2-Afi!
3.The View @ Liq rooms Nov 2007-The worst gig and I can't believe that some company is bankrolling them money to make Music!
^^the only good album
i was unfortunate to have to go after this..
the things you do for friendship.(see above)
i was very pissed and for this reason late so it helped
this thread
proves everyone loves hard-fi really!
ffaf
are awesome
Not all will agree but...
The Levellers
Cliff Richard,
I was nine and with my Mum. I’m pretty sure that counts as child abuse.
...
Babyshambles, Joe Lean and Operator Please...all on the same bill. It was horrifying. It was the Gonzo 5th birthday show at the Barfly, initially meant to be We Are Scientists, Foals and Operator Please. W.A.S and Foals dropped out last minute. My girlfriend insisted we still go just in case the 'special suprise headliner' wasn't Babyshambles. Pffft.
I also went to what I think was billed as 'The Metal Hammer Emo Tour'. Although I stand by that decision, it was quite good. Well Dopamine were shite, Beloved were fucking incredible, then Dead Poetic were pretty good. After that the place emptied and The Hurt Process were left playing to about 12 folk....that fat one still gave it some to be fair though. I enjoyed it.
and what's wrong with Operator Please?
I likes them I do.
It was an entertaining show, mind!

Scouting for Girls
Do I win? Do I?
I went to arctic monkeys at the g mex wrecked
And for some reason i was playing air bass all night like a twat, which I get constantly reminded of.
lol
