with stanger on the reading headline slot they did 4 or 5 years back? everyone was kind of 'hmmm yay', and then after that they went into blackened and there was a communal shitting of pants.
once youve seen them recently theres no point in seeing them again. i went to the gig at Wembley Stadium and I left after about 30 mins. It was boooring.
It's not shit, it's just a line up that screams "It'll sell out anyway, let's put no thought or imagination into it". In recent years even the Carling stage (or whatever it will be called now) has had a bit of a fall.
I know there's more to be added, but it's the first time since 2002 that I'm not in a blind panic trying to get tickets
there are only three people per day on the radio one stage, no lock up, no dance and no introducing or whatever it's called, and then there are still a few othe tiny stages.
Never been Redding before but got my tickets on the strength of RATM being rumoured to headline. I've since heard Biffy Clyro, Justice and Bloc Party are playing so its looking like a good decision in my opinion
is that they have announced pretty much exactly the line up that we all knew they were going to from the rumours, so there has been no exciting surprises. I'm too old to go (its for kids right?) but that looks like the strongest of the three big festivals by some distance.
this year and the previous 2 years there have been so many great new and improved fests here and in europe with interesting lineups and nicer surroundings that reading just seems so 90s and predictable.
Surely no one over 19 goes though anyway. Its a bit like getting grumpy about the line up for the Radio One roadshows or whatever they are callng them these days.
the atmosphere was rubbish, I spent most of the weekend wanting to kick people in the head. Too many kids trying to be 'random' and not realising not everyone will see the 'funny' side of throwing tents on fires.
its shit. I went when I was 17 and the lineups were alright but i don't think I'd go now if you gave me a ticket.
"Fun" sponsored by Carling. "Fun" sponsored by Virgin. I hate all that shit
the 5 days or so that comprise the festival weekend. Irritating teenagers pissed on cheap cider trying to be random, the inescapable muffled sound of horrible, horrible bands playing the main stage, the inability to go anywhere in my lovely town without encountering filthy 30+ white dudes with dreads and Greenday/Murderdolls t-shirts.
Metalli-fuckin-ca a couple of years ago. that amused me. Even though the line up looks fairly average, it usually has a few gems that get announced later on. Also even though the names mentioned for latitude are pretty ace, I don't think I could bring myself to buying a ticket for a festival that has a poetry arena. Instead I'm off to Belgium to see REM, Radiohead, beirut and all at werchter.
that rock werchter has the best line up of all the festivals in europe this year.
Radiohead, REM, Grinderman, Beirut, Beck, Justice, Sigur Ros, MGMT, Hot Chip....
I'm going to Reading and Benicassim.
To be fair to Reading, the line up is just a lot of mainstream indie bands, and for a mainstream indie festival, im pretty sure thats what you need.
good well run festival, have some great names there, but as I said below only two stages, which can sometimes leave a choice between something like Mika and Counting crows, but you can get that in many places. Also, easy to get to on eurostar, and you can get by without knowing any Flemish.
I'm doing that and Reading, werchter does have some cracking top billed names but is fairly light on smaller bands as there are only two stages, so I should be able to catch a few of them at reading.
but once again the effing multi-credit card touting mofo's have bought up every single available ticket and but them on Ebay for mafia style prices.
Nice way to make some quick cash though..
Rage against the machine are now deemed worthy of being headliners but in their prime they used to play the late afternoon slot? (They were rubbish both times as well from what i remember.)
Metallica have been shit for many a year
and don't get me started on RATM...
I'm sure the line-up will look good when it fleshes out a bit more though
'tallica have NEVER been bad live though
well not recently, they have a winning formula, and they keep to it
not playing more
than one song from st. anger, load or reload?
pretty much 'zactly
i've seen them twice and they have played upto about 4 songs from them, and they were fun enough live
didnt they start off
with stanger on the reading headline slot they did 4 or 5 years back? everyone was kind of 'hmmm yay', and then after that they went into blackened and there was a communal shitting of pants.
i don't think so
but that might have happened, i think blackened was near the end
maybe something else
rilly good then
No they played St Anger later on in the set
isnt that the problem?
once youve seen them recently theres no point in seeing them again. i went to the gig at Wembley Stadium and I left after about 30 mins. It was boooring.
thats a bit like saying
you cant be bothered to listen to their records anymore, cos they run in the same order
It's more the rest of it that looks rubbish
particularly the radio 1 tents, there's a lot of filler.. the Wombats indeed.
It's not shit but it's very meh.
il admit the rest of it is a bit meh
but thats only about a third if not a quarter of the bands actually playing.theres loads more to be announced
i dont particularly like metallica
but they will put on a good show wont they
+ they've got a back catalogue to draw from
Its pretty fucking poor in my opinion.
I go every year to whichever site i can get a ticket for, but the moment i really cant be arsed. Latitude is gonna cream this bollox!
I saw Metallica there in 2003
And before them were SOAD, not a joke band.
SOAD played as heavy a set as they could have then too
They were fucking brutal that day
^ this
it was like a dust bowl down the front there were so many people moshing (or whatever) and the ground was so dry... - good times!
I was stood towards the back
But you could see the dust rising up into our air.
One of our mates was right in the mix, came back, his trousers had been torn to shreds
that was one of the last great moshes i had
i choked on that same dust
and puked
the first acts are always lame
but there will be planty worth seeing once everything else has been announced. YES
hmmm that list looks pretty full
Metallica have made two half great albums
but will be a good, if not exactly vital show,
let's see: Nirvana at the peak of their powers vs Metallica ten years past their peak
oohhh big scary noises
and RATM might show signs of life but it's all a bit 13 years ago, no?
just sayin like
pretty full?
there are only three people per day on the radio one stage, no lock up, no dance and no introducing or whatever it's called, and then there are still a few othe tiny stages.
well it looks like thebogus list on here a day or so ago
so I am guessing the rest of that list is true
seeing as what they have announced offically is as per
yeah and theres some good bands on that list
particularly the lockup stage
^^ no way
lighting
puppets
justice
thats 3 great albums
plus the songs they play form kill 'em all are GREAT!!!
Plus the good ones from
Load and Reload they play.
The Memory Remains at Wembley was fucking epic.
It's a shit festival anyway
There are very few line-ups that would convince me to go.
why is it shit?
I've changed my mind Biffy Clyro are playing.
:)
cant go wrong
with a bit of biffy :D
the Biffy set
is going to be Puzzle-heavy though, judging by recent sets. Which is fine if you like Puzzle though, i guess.
I've recently gotten back into Biffy
but I don't like Puzzle. Don't know Infinity land either, though I heard it's more on the emo side
Unfriendly atmosphere
Either full of teenage pricks from the Home Counties, or teenage pricks from the North.
And the line-up is invariably shite.
^ This
Dealing with Babaychamed up 17 year olds away from Mummy and Daddy for the first time does not a good festival make
OR
teenage pricks from london. me being one :) :)
but yeah the line up is a little shite. go to truck if your that bothered.
* you're
it's not really tickling my fancy
but i wouldn't say it was shit. T In The Park and V are shit.
i thought you said
its not really tickling my FANNY
^Actually Laughing like an uncontrolable little child.
I'm going to use the phrase though just for laughs.
i did
Worth It For RATM alone
Never been Redding before but got my tickets on the strength of RATM being rumoured to headline. I've since heard Biffy Clyro, Justice and Bloc Party are playing so its looking like a good decision in my opinion
The only reason it looks boring
is that they have announced pretty much exactly the line up that we all knew they were going to from the rumours, so there has been no exciting surprises. I'm too old to go (its for kids right?) but that looks like the strongest of the three big festivals by some distance.
You do realise
not everyone likes RATM and Metllica?
I personally wouldn't mind seeing RATM, but think I would be left twiddling my thumbs during most days.
i think its that
this year and the previous 2 years there have been so many great new and improved fests here and in europe with interesting lineups and nicer surroundings that reading just seems so 90s and predictable.
Spot on JS
Surely no one over 19 goes though anyway. Its a bit like getting grumpy about the line up for the Radio One roadshows or whatever they are callng them these days.
Cheaper too
especially in Europe.
primavera tickets
started out at about £50/£60!
I'm 20 on the 25th August
So its like a nice birthday pressent!
RATM are shit (well, what I've heard of them which is the song on guitar hero)
I like the looks of the sunday main stage and the NME stages, and serj tankian/bloc party should be good as well
people, it's a great lineup.
^

Don't base your music knowledge on Guitar Hero!
There are a few bands I'd like to see, but I didn't like the atmosphere last time I went. I think smaller festivals are the way to go...
i don't base my music knowledge on guitar hero
:(
I'm sure you don't : )
But check out RATM's first album - learn to love that and then watching them live will blow you away!
i seem to be the only person
in existence who thinks of RATM as nothing more than 'alright'
Nah, I'm with you on this one.
you 2
are retarded
i'm with you too
i got that first album and it's ok. I can't be arsed with political music and zach's voice annoys me
The last time I went (2005? 2006?)
the atmosphere was rubbish, I spent most of the weekend wanting to kick people in the head. Too many kids trying to be 'random' and not realising not everyone will see the 'funny' side of throwing tents on fires.
don't bother going
its shit. I went when I was 17 and the lineups were alright but i don't think I'd go now if you gave me a ticket.
"Fun" sponsored by Carling. "Fun" sponsored by Virgin. I hate all that shit
last time I went (2004)
I felt the same way. This is why I have decided that although I will venture back I am NOT camping!
I fucking detest
the 5 days or so that comprise the festival weekend. Irritating teenagers pissed on cheap cider trying to be random, the inescapable muffled sound of horrible, horrible bands playing the main stage, the inability to go anywhere in my lovely town without encountering filthy 30+ white dudes with dreads and Greenday/Murderdolls t-shirts.
i agree
Last year...
Razorlight and the Chilli Peppers were headliners!!! Now that is shit! I think this year looks drastically improved.
Metallica?
Meh-tallica.
I'll ruin Metallica for you:
http://www.myspace.com/majormetallica
I saw someone with a t-shirt saying
Metalli-fuckin-ca a couple of years ago. that amused me. Even though the line up looks fairly average, it usually has a few gems that get announced later on. Also even though the names mentioned for latitude are pretty ace, I don't think I could bring myself to buying a ticket for a festival that has a poetry arena. Instead I'm off to Belgium to see REM, Radiohead, beirut and all at werchter.
I'm starting to think
that rock werchter has the best line up of all the festivals in europe this year.

I'm going to Reading and Benicassim.
To be fair to Reading, the line up is just a lot of mainstream indie bands, and for a mainstream indie festival, im pretty sure thats what you need.
Yep
it looks amazing. Anyone ever been?
yeah twice
good well run festival, have some great names there, but as I said below only two stages, which can sometimes leave a choice between something like Mika and Counting crows, but you can get that in many places. Also, easy to get to on eurostar, and you can get by without knowing any Flemish.
Just bought my werchter ticket now
I'm doing that and Reading, werchter does have some cracking top billed names but is fairly light on smaller bands as there are only two stages, so I should be able to catch a few of them at reading.
At least the line up defecates on last years'
but once again the effing multi-credit card touting mofo's have bought up every single available ticket and but them on Ebay for mafia style prices.
Nice way to make some quick cash though..
How come
Rage against the machine are now deemed worthy of being headliners but in their prime they used to play the late afternoon slot? (They were rubbish both times as well from what i remember.)
Because splitting up and reforming
is the easy route to being a big band.
I think they headlined in 1996 didn't they?
They were past their prime by then though.
I think Metallica's set in 98' (or whenever) was the most bored I've been at a gig ever.
but it's rubbish.
i don't really like RATM and i've seen metallica before. rrrubbish.
