Sheffield act Milburn have announced they are to split.
The band revealed the news in a posting on their website – there’s been “no falling out”, apparently, and they are still “friends and supporters of each other as we move on and explore new musical horizons.
“Not everyone in the music media understood us but you the fans did and over the last 2-3 years we’ve shared some amazing experiences that we’ll never forget.”
The band formed back in 2001, but were dogged throughout their career by slurs deriding them as a poor man’s Arctic Monkeys, a band they were contemporaries with on the Sheffield scene.
Milburn will play a farewell gig at Sheffield Academy on the 24th of May and plan to release a pair of new songs – ‘The District Line’ and ‘Stay at Home’ – before calling it a day.

WHO'S NEXT, CRAINE?!!?
please..
say this is an april fool, I FUCKING LOVE MILBURN. so much. so sad it makes me want to cry :'(
That is
a shame........ shame they are releasing more material before they go.
gutted
If this is an April Fool
I'll be majorly pissed off....
its not
its not an april fool, i met the drummer a little while ago and he said they were splitting.
i thought this was an all Girl Band
but that was Hepburn
What a shame...
the best Sheffield band since Blameless.
And Hepburn were fantastic.
Altogether now:
Like bugs on the windshield
Like bugs on the windshield
Don't talk to me I'm seeing red
You're the last thing in my head
I want to fly, I want to fly
Reach out, be healed
don't want to die
I QUIT! I QUIT!
'CAUSE LOVING YOU'S A JOB I DON'T NEED! AIN'T GONNA GO TO WORK NO MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRE!!!
Ahhh, God Bless awful late-90s girl bands....
why, for once
can't a band release a realistic 'breaking-up' statement?
"We didn't sell any records, our shows were chock full of cunts, and we've basically got no talent. The bassist is going to record Arctic Monkeys soundalikes in his bedroom studio for a couple of years before getting a job as a plasterer."
Yet another example
of a Major label stitch up. I met a couple of them when they attending my bands gig in Sheff. Cool guys who were less than happy with the way their label handled em. IMO it was too early for them, they should of being giving more time to develop better songs and refine their sound.
this
is probably why there is so much crap around. Not enough time to develop.
i like that
comment
Never heard their stuff...
but they'd never get any respected attention with a name like Milburn.
'develop their sound'?
can't polish a turd!
I guess if the Arctics are the Mondays
then Milburn are Northside. (And Little Man Tate are The High).
I used to really like these.
I heard them a good six months before the original Artic Monkeys demo's surfaced and people that think these guys ripped them off are SO wrong. The Arctics ripped Milburn off, FACT. Saying all this, i've just realised i don't care.
