Yes it is.

Their others pale in comparison.

what

10,000 days?!? certainly doesnt pale in comparison to lateralus, infact I think it is slightly better

yes.

still amazing after 7(?) years of fairly constant listening (well every few months anyway)

best track? i reckon 'Lateralus'. THAT riff at the beginning ! :O

im excited to hear it

i remember that video being on mtv2 for ages.was it called schism?well anyway i loved that song so i thought id treat myself.is 10,000 days good as well?AEnima shall be bought next month

10,000 Days is good, yes

but what i find with it is that it tends to tread a very similar path to Lateralus. Which is fine - it's a good path to tread, but when AEnima came out it sounded different to Undertow and when Lateralus came out it sounded different to AEnima, so i was expecting a bigger departure from 10,000 Days which is perhaps what led me to being a little disappointed with it

10,000 days is lacklustre

After releasing Lateralus, they could've made 10,000 days with their eyes closed, or thewir hands tied behind their back or some such metaphor.

nooooo

your sooo wrong...10,000 days is literally phenomenal!!
and buy it, dont download it, because the CD case is amazing!

no no no

lateralus is good, exceptional in fact, but its not as good as aenima, that is a marsterpiece if you ask me

You are the right answerman!

Here, have a trophy

Haha, asking after the event.

You'd be gutted if everyone said "nah it's shit compared to (insert Tool album name).

Where did you get it from? How much? I've considered exploring Tool.

as well you should.

Tool are spectacular. Any of their purchases are good, but Lateralus and AEnima are the two top titties

well i knew it was good

from reviews and stuff but i thought id see just HOW hood it was compared to the others :)

Big Yes!

Though it's just recently been beaten into 2nd place on my 'FAVOURITE METAL ALBUMS LIST' by Calculating Infinity, which i only discovered a couple of months back.

Calculating Infinity...

is by Dillinger Escape Plan, in case you didn't know. Give it a shot.

im buying this

soon :)

Lateralus is possibly one of my favourite albums

I only bought it because I liked the artwork, then took it to Spain with me, and it soundtracked my week there perfectly. Actually that's a lie, I spent my week by the pool or playing air hockey and getting electric shocks. Still, it's a great album.

What do people think of 10,000 days? I bought it ages ago but I don't think I've ever listened to it.

i was really disappointed at first

but it grew on me slightly. it seemed to me to take a step back in intelligence and just pandered to obvious rhythm change and much more simplistic dynamics and progressions.. havent heard it for a while though.

ditto ^

ah....

I just asked this below...silly me, should really read post before leaping in....

i shall buy it as well

but next pay day :)

FALSE.

That would be like saying the bends is better than OK Computer.

FACT=/=OPINION

NUR.

it isn't a 'fact' though

so shut up and leave people to their own devices. Personally, i agree with you, but p_o_r isn't wrong, merely not in agreeance.

What?

He said 'no, AEnima is better. FACT.' So wasn't he as guilty as I?

look see it is a fact:

http://www.allmusicguide.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:kpfuxqw5ld6e~T2

basically you are right i was stating my opinion, but i actually am correct over this.

Oops!

The page you are requesting cannot be found. Please try again.

Lateralus is better than Aenima, anyway.

that's just a stupid annology

it's nothing like saying the bends is better than ok computer

not really

neither of those albums were anywhere near as ground breaking nor different nor influential as ok computer.

Did anyone else

...feel that they have either lost the passion for it or ran out of ideas on 10,000 days? It just seem to lack everything that made the others good.....it was almost too straight up..

^lol your username

DaveBusstsleg

Yep

total auto-pilot album. Even they admitted that they didnt wanna go through the same struggle that they had with Lateralus taking so long and falling out, etc. but look at the result!

It is ok

The thing with Tool is they often have a good 4 minute song and pad it out with a load of boring shite! Sometimes it's entirely boring shite too. Vicarious on the newest album would be good if it didn't have that dull 3 minute retread of the intro bit halfway through.

Boring shite

that is entirely boring? Well...

The song I mean

don't disrespect my englishes

i kinda stopped

buying tool albums after aenima, which i do like a lot. that and undertow too. (the videos for those songs are amazing)
perhaps i'll get lateralus.

^ do that

but 10,000days is not essential.

Laretalus amazing but AEnima better

Listen to Stinkfist,Hooker With A Penis and title track for proof.

Lateralus is amazing

10,000 days was a bit disappointing, apart from the 3d artwork which is incredible. i think they put more effort into that than the album

10,000 Days makes me sad

A awful, forgettable album.

Lateralus is ace though. There's some great drumming particularly!

Aenima is still the one I always go back to. It's full of energy and has the humour that Lateralus doesn't and that was handled so poorly on 10,000 Days. Plus Aenima was like a Bill Hicks concept album which is never bad idea!

aenima was my favorite

till I saw them on the Lateralus tour then
Lateralus became my favorite till I saw them on the 10,000 Days tour, now I don't listen them much at all. If you get into them you'll come to appreciate each album as massive chunk of music. Even the live cd that comes with "Salival" is a great and weighty document. If you ever get the chance to see Tool, go! The shows are where you really get Tool. Songs that you thought were kind of so so suddenly get legs and you'll go OK, I get that. Plus they do visual stuff you just don't see anywhere else. At the last show I went to they had a huge white stage that they projected images of things like sparks and rushing water onto so I looked like the band was standing in a sea of sparks and rushing water. Incredible lasers, tippy lights and Adam Jones' filmic overlays for the whole show, it is religious.

^

i love it when bands put the effort in.are they touring any time soon/next 2 years ish?

I saw em 2001 for £12

and the latest tour was £28.50.

Sack. That.

checked my ticket last night:

it was £10 in 2001

then £25 in 2007, then £28.50 later that year.

Well chuffed i got to see them before i had to shell out that sort of cash.

Lateralus

just makes me feel so much more content than Aenima. Far more of a journey than anything else they've produced.

10,000 Days... I've probably only listened to that a few times. Doesn't really grip me at all. Shame.

Lateralus and the rest of Tools back catalogue are great, but

the order of qualitay is;

Aenima - slightly disjointed i must admit, but it does contain Pushit, Aenima, Hooker witha penis, Eulogy, 46&2 and these are great great songs

Next up

10,000 Days again suffers slightly from being disjointed but has some of their most accessible melodies and maynard's voice is the shiznizzle (said snoop)

Then Lateralus a fantastic journey and a geeat mid period for Tool sits nicely between aenima and 10'000 days, the album meanders a little bit, but it is very infectious

Opiate, their first EP, more rock than anything else they have done, think rage against the machine without the squeely rapper!!

and last but not least Undertow which has their pop hit Sober!! patchy album, with some poor production which hampers the listening and makes it difficult to play it in a club next to the high production sheen of contemporary rock n roll YO

but this is one persons opinion remember that a mind is a terrible thing to taste

Aenima

is my fave, but i haven't got lateralus.

i do have 10,000 days though which is, well. Not as good as Aenima.

but aenima is an awesome album

Does

the Opiate EP really sound like rage without the rap? Can someone second the opinion?

I've not heard it, just interested.

No, it does not.

It's not as technically structured as their later stuff, but that sure doesn't make it comparible to Rage.

I do love Maynard on one of the live tracks saying "somebody get that Bob Marley motherfucker wannabe out of here"

ok

cool. i thought that would be quite a major difference in sound to go from Tool songs to Rage-esque songs. Well I love both bands so no matter.

it's def. worth checking out, just

don't expect your jaw to hit the ground.

About rage?

Why would he sing on one of their tracks then?

Yes it does, unfortunately.

It's got that same pentatonic drop d riffage, and it's far more basic and 'rock' than their later stuff.
