Probably about 500 capacity downstairs I think. Sound is really good too, I prefer downstairs (the bigger room) to upstairs but both are good.

The sound in the main room is lovely, upstairs it is hit and miss. I prefer catching bands at other venues than the Paradiso, if they are playing in the small room - although to be fair, there have been a few recently who have sounded pretty great.

To get there, it is a tram ride from the Centraal station, to Leidseplein. It takes about 10 minutes. When you get off at Leidseplein, you will be in a square. You will see a theatre infront of you and the ABN Amro bank on one corner behind you. Walk past the ABN Amro, and you will see the Paradiso about 2 minutes further up the road. The Melkweg is also close by, that is just to the side of the theater / Dan Murphy's. But they have been booking shit for years.

Saw Guided By Voices play there a few years back - a converted church somewhat akin to the Union Chapel, although without the seated pews - just north of the Museumplein if memory serves me correctly. Great sound quality, and one of the best up for it good natured crowds I've ever come across at a gig. Happy memories.

Converted church around the corner from the Leidsplein. The main hall has a downstairs section and a balcony with a total capacity of 1,200. The upstairs room can fit about 300.

Check what time the gig is you want to see (www.paradiso.nl). Sometimes doors don't open until 11 and the support will come on at midnight.
