I might be going to see them as part of Dot-to-Dot, but the general reaction to them playing Connect is... well, non-existent, so should I not bother? Should I get Ladies and Gentleman blah blah blah? It's always seemed to me to be more something for NME readers. So should I get something else? I know nothing about them, you see.

Lazer Guided Melodies

and Pure Phase

In my opinion, they started off amazingly and then went downhill.. but they got more commercially successful! shows what i know about music really..

Ladies and gentlemen

and Let it come down
are brilliant records, basically just really good love songs.

The First two albums are really good shoegaze albums.

Amazing Grace is not so hot.

spiritualized

are very boring

ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space

is one of the greatest albums ever recorded. srsly.

the first two, "lazer guided melodies" and "pure phase" are very shoegazey and mellow. taking drugs to make music to take drugs to, kinda thing.

after "ladies & gentlemen.." he made "let it come down", which is very orchestral and grandiose, but has some stunning moments ("out of sight" and "stop your crying").

"amazing grace" is crap.

An NME band????

Deary me. Much much more than that. Can't belive you've described them as that. That'd put them in the same league as Cribs, Pete Dohertys poo, Kooks, Klaxons, Muse blah de blah. Get all their stuff. Live At The Albert Hall covers good ground but best start with Lazer Guided Melodies, Ladies & Gentlemen, Pure Phase then Let It Come Down. Better still, get Spacemen 3's stuff if you haven't already.

those are probably relatively just comparisons

the reason them playing connect hasnt been mentioned much is probably coz they did extensive touring last year, played loads of festivals and did a tour as i remember, they have another album coming out, has just leaked even, so i guess theyre supporting that this time round. get ladies and gentlemen we're floating in space if you want to find out what theyre like. cool album

Why does...

Amazing Grace get so much shit? I reckon it's awesome. 'Hold On' is unbelievable.

this ^

albums in order of goodness:

1. Ladies and Gentlemen....
2. Let It Come Down
3. Lazer Guided Melodies
4. Amazing Grace
5. Pure Phase

but yeah, they're all pretty good.....

Hmm..

Having liked the single ladies & gentlemen, I was told to listen to Amazing Grace by a dumb ex - "it's amaaazing, like their best ever stuff". Got bored and promptly decided that Spiritulized weren't worth my time if that was the best they could offer. You've made me rethink - off to hunt out L&G.

So are

'Lord Let it Rain On Me' and 'The Ballad of Richie Lee'.

Fucking great band!!!

Definitely get

Ladies and Gentlemen... - it's brilliant

All the others are pretty good too and worth listening to (yes, even Amazing Grace)

um

if you listen to the Albert Hall live album, you will want to see them.

Last year there were doing an acoustic tour (string quartet & gospel singers).. this year i believe it's back to the electric....

Songs In A&E is sounding really, really good.

Off to see em in Sheffield

Can't wait, imo one of the best bands on 90's, if not the best. Even Amazing Grace which is his worst album is pretty darn good, just a bit formulaic by his standards. I feel they have been forgotten in recent times. Interesting you mention them being an NME band. Ladies and Gentlemen was No.1 in their top albums of 1997, Ok Computer was 2nd!

Lazer Guided Melodies is rockin place to start

not really liked much after that to be honest. saw them play live at Phoenix Festival once, they came on at like 4 in the morning i think, there was people asleep on the grass. they were nowhere near as special live as some might have you believe.

i saw them play

at reading 98? i think it was that year anyway, they headlined the nme stage/radio 1 stage/whatever it was called back then! they were ok, went on a fair while though, i have to admit i was getti na little bored watching them dispite liking some songs of theirs previously. all in all it was ok though

Ladies and Gents is my fave album of all time

Albert Hall is probably in my top 5. seen them about 12 times. I liked the acoustic shows but nothing compares to the full on live show in the late 90s.
