Hello, this probably doesn't affect many of you but a venue called The Point here in Cardiff is facing closure.

The Point's an independently run 500 capacity venue that is basically stunning, a beautiful church conversion. Over the years I've seen loads of amazing gigs in there, Broken Social Scene, Hawk & A Hacksaw, The Hold Steady and a few others all spring to mind.

Annoyingly there are now flats built nearby, and the new neighbours don't really like the noise, so the venue is facing closure.

If anyone cares or feels strongly about this then could take a brief second to sign the petition at www.keepthepointalive.com -there's also a facebook group you can join here http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=11070492394&ref=mf

I really hate it when this kind of stuff happens.

What the fuck!

I hate it as well!

this sucks

it's a really cool building. although i haven't been to many gigs there since going away to uni, i do remember seeing isis at the point around 2005/2006 (i think?) and it suited them perfectly. argh.

this is a disgrace

ive signed the petition. the point is an amazing venue.

That'd be a massive shame

I saw the Melvins there the December before last, lovely venue - a good bridge between a tiny and massive place.

The Melvins show was at The Coal Exchange

which is round the corner, and has already been closed so that the surrounding building can be converted into yet more flats.

melvins was at the point!

but yeah, please everyone - sign if you can. most of the best gig experiences i've had in the last three years have come at the point, and cardiff's growing rep for putting on good quality shows will take a massive hit if it dies.

my bad

dunno who i'm thinking of.

fack!

very nice venue.... this is a shame.

i have added my name, it is a benefit to cardiff that this class of venue exists.

whats the story with its closure??

noise complaints

They converted some building opposite into flats. People move in fully aware that there's a music venue over the road, then they start complaining about the noise. It's so frustrating. The Council are very much on the residents side it seems.

signed

I hate it when this happens. Priority should be given to whatever's there first!

one of the

best live venues in Cardiff. brilliant re-use of an old building (which isn't flats like everything else down there). they've already taken the Coal Exchange, and sadly seems inevitable that this will go the same way.

DON'T BUY A FLAT NEAR AN ESTABLISHED MUSIC VENUE. idiots.

This is a real shame

We need mid to small sized venues in Cardiff there are plenty of big venues, St Davids, CIA, Millenium Centre etc, but The Point really fills a purpose when it comes to bands that wouldn't play Cardiff otherwise. Mobilise the troops people, we can't let this happen !

really really

gay.
