Rad. What an amazingly unique and LOUD band. Hypermagic Mountain is currently engaged in blowing my mind for about the 50th time. New album out very soon, innit? If Rock A Rolla is to be believed, that is. It's got a really silly title is all I can remember.
Rad is right!
Guess that means a tour soon as well! Schweeeeeet!
Hypermagic Mountain is amazing
Dead Cowboy! = contender for best song ever.
i love lightning bolt
so i'm assuming that's where dead cowboy promotions came from then?
Yes...that is correct
Do I know you?!
Oh! It's Graham!
Sorry, I should have checked your profile first!
Hmmmm...Nah
Bought Hypermagic mountain awhile ago - fairly dissapointing i reckon. The tunes don't really do anything - sure, the drumming sounds sound for a bit and then y'think 'well yeah...BUT...' and then random noise excerpts that are just a bit shit etc. Plus they've spawned a wave of crappy imitators, which although admittedly not their fault does do me head in a bit!
.
I sort of agree with both views here.
think I need to listen to Hypermagic Mountain some more.
Wonderful Rainbow is probably a better starting point
than Hypermagic Mountain. In their own frazzled way, they're closer to normal 'songs' and a bit more melodic than their other records.
the ring just arrived.
I can't wait for the new one
And I always love it when a band's name perfectly matches their music...it's rarer than you'd think
'2morro morro land' is possibly one of the best album openers ever.
*air bass*
Oh, and I think I remembered the name of the new album
'Funny Farm'.
They used to play a track called that when they toured, so maybe that'll be on the album.

I really want to see them live.
Brian Chippendale is a beast. And Dead Cowboy is perfection,
Wonderful Rainbow is their high point for me
Hypermagic Mountain is just too relentless for me, by the time you get to the last third it's become a bit boring and grey in its pummelling. But the last song does contain the best abrupt ending ever, when it cuts out to silence just as they seem to be entering another rising riff section
i found ride the skies the easiest to listen to
than wonderful rainbow then hypermagic mountain and lightning bolt, terrific band, 2nd best live band i've ever seen.
Another thunbs up for Wonderful Rainbow
that opening salvo of Hello Morning, Assassins and Dracula Mountain turns me into a crazed flailing madman every time.
Hypermagic Mountain is good, but yeah, bit too... repetitive. Ride the Skies does that arpeggio attack better, The Faire Folk for the win!
The Yellow Album (whatever it's called) has some tracks so filthy and lo-fi that they're unlistenable, but there's a song on there so nasty and heavy and progressive that makes me freak out in the best possible way, Fleeing The Valley Of Whirling Knives... FIND IT AND LISTEN!
(Most god damn exhilarating band I've ever seen live too)
ALSO
The Power of Salad and Milkshakes, the Lightning Bolt tour film from the Ride the Skies days, fucking awesome,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=2emHj3qTX9k
A band you really need to see live
to understand them on record i think.
For me, anyway...
i'd like to see them live
just for a laugh. i can only listen to an album for ten minutes before it starts to do my head in.
seeing lightning bolt
permanently fucked my ears and left me unable to move
The are totally unique
I love all 4 albums and I think Hypermagic Mountain is a culmination of all the best bits of Lightning Bolt on one album. If you are ready for more check out Brian Chippendale's other band Black Pus. You can download their albums at http://www.fauxfetus.net/
