Probably been done before, but with all this talk of the new album and stuff, I've realised haven't ever properly listened to anything by them, so any suggestions please?
Get The Photo Album, then Transatlanticism (bit of a tough call trying to separate them, but I started with The Photo Album and it worked out okay for me!)
'We have the facts and we're voting yes' is a bit more lo-fi but crammed full of lovely little details, 'photo album' is more streamlined n polished but perhaps a bit more focused for it and 'transatlanticism' is a fair bit more epic on the whole - again it's got more polish but it doesn't suffer for it - got a lot of atmosphere in spite of the big budget values.
Can't wait to go and watch the OC.
What's happening in one tree hill?
Please can you recommend me some more bands for depressed 14 year olds now that I like DCFC.
never seen a second of the OC or One Tree Hill and I dismissed Dawson's Creek as mawkish teen shite of the highest order halfway through the first episode when it first aired. I happen to think Death Cab are a fantastic american indie band. I also happen to think you've clearly never heard a note by Death Cab - judging by your top bands list, you'd probably quite like them but have poorly judged preconceptions.
Also, I'm pretty certain both Arcade Fire and Final Fantasy have been used in a plethora of US teen series and/or Grey's Anatomy, so you'd best start hating them, too.
I just dislike them, or to be more precise, I don't like them.
Maybe it would be guilt by association if I didn't have the photo album, blah blagh chords and blahoplanes in my itunes library. After my first post I thought I better listen again to remind myself and I could only stomach 3 tracks of photo before I had to turn it off. See proof at 17:04 http://tinyurl.com/6l8sr6 Admittedly some of this is irrational based on the fact that they have racked up 45 million plays on last.fm which is just insane.
Anyway, there is a correlation between people who like dcfc and people who like the OC. People who like the OC have bad taste.
I guess you are the exception the proves the rule (I've never really understood that one).
When I worshipped it, it introduced me to Death Cab, who I then began to worship also.
Seriously, the first series of that programme is superb. Well-written Sunday morning TV that was able to laugh at itself and the rest of the 'teen angst drama' sort of thing.
Don't watch anything after that though. It became glossy and started taking itself seriously.
..is cocking brilliant. Photo Album is very good too. It's all a bit gay at times and his lyrics can be a bit hit and miss but earlier stuff is generally rather ace.
i'm pretty jealous of you that you have all these great albums that you have never heard, this will be your death cab summer and it'll be class, you might as well get the postal service 'give up' album while your at it... btw who cares if they are on the o.c.? and who cares if there's people who didn't like them until they were? we are just lucky to have had their music for a few years longer, some people just don't hear some sweet tunes until they become a bit more mainstrem, the 'o.c. death cab' fans are the ones who've enabled them to do massive world tours that means we'll get to see them in a town near us...thanks you oc fans! and aleena, this summer...check out whitest boy alive, crystal castles, broken social scene, stars, metric, yo la tengo, bright eyes, chin up chin up, two door cinema club, the swell season, kings of convenience, m83, pop levi, ms. john soda, ryan adams...enjoy!!
Yeah
Don't.
Don't
Unless you're 15 and watch the OC or something similar.
I'm 16
But i don't watch the OC or anything similar.
don't then
unless you think your life is more complicated than it really is, like you might imagine a character in the OCs life to be.
that'd be me then.
But I hate the OC. I like the mopey songs at the end of Scrubs though.
Do
Get The Photo Album, then Transatlanticism (bit of a tough call trying to separate them, but I started with The Photo Album and it worked out okay for me!)
Ignore the above
apparently as soon as a band's featured on a TV show, they are too lame to listen to anymore.
Start with 'We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes' and go from there. It's brilliant.
I didn't know they had been
it was a guess.
In my experience, people who like dcfc think their lives are like characters in dawsons creek or something.
That's
quite a generalisation to make about Derby County fans. It's like saying Liverpool fans think they live on Eastenders or summat...
zing
Sorry
I've not been around here much lately. Give me time to get into my stride, I might get mildly amusing in a year or two...
transatlanticism is probably the best place to start
thats where it all began for me, also be sure to ignore all the haters on DiS
ben gibbard
is a genius and deathcba are great
Any of the first 3 albums
'We have the facts and we're voting yes' is a bit more lo-fi but crammed full of lovely little details, 'photo album' is more streamlined n polished but perhaps a bit more focused for it and 'transatlanticism' is a fair bit more epic on the whole - again it's got more polish but it doesn't suffer for it - got a lot of atmosphere in spite of the big budget values.
those are the second to fourth albums
Transatlanticism.
Zapsta and Quakerstoy have been taken to a DiS Lab to be tested for severe musical idiocy.
i vote
The Photo Album because its my favourite of theirs.
I just got back
Can't wait to go and watch the OC.

I'm nearly 29,
never seen a second of the OC or One Tree Hill and I dismissed Dawson's Creek as mawkish teen shite of the highest order halfway through the first episode when it first aired. The Photo Album
Do,
if you have a beating heart.
Transatlanticism is the place to start.
Ooh, rhyming.
Ben Gibbard would be proud
Its all about Transatlanticism
especially the title track.
and the track "Title and Registration'
Its all good.
definitely
start at Transatlanticism.
like this
by making love to a lady, rather than your hand.
...
"It's somewhat like eating an apple and trying to describe how it tastes"
Personally I like You Can Play These Songs With Chords, although Translanticism is probably the best place to start.
We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes
and Plans is rad. But some people don't like it.
Plans
Has the strongest songs and lyrically it is more naturally poetic than any other 'indie' release I can think of in recent years.
The OC was fantastic.
When I worshipped it, it introduced me to Death Cab, who I then began to worship also.
Seriously, the first series of that programme is superb. Well-written Sunday morning TV that was able to laugh at itself and the rest of the 'teen angst drama' sort of thing.

you clearly didn't see the last series!
it was super silly.
I watched an episode of the final series.
some people fell off a roof into alternate universe or something.
quality, realistic teen drama right there.
the stability ep
would be my recommendation.
We have the facts and we're voting yes..
..is cocking brilliant. Photo Album is very good too. It's all a bit gay at times and his lyrics can be a bit hit and miss but earlier stuff is generally rather ace.
the first few albums
when they were just a built to spill tribute band without the solos were good. then they got a crap drummer and delusions of grandeur.
The Photo Album
or Transatlanticism.
Ignore the fools. Death Cab rule
Transatlanticism is by far the best in my opinion
But it's the one I'm most familiar with. I'd recommend it as a good place to start- it's how I got into them.
man
i love the OC
and death cab, whats the problem?
i like Transatlanticism the best. but everything they have done is awesome
jealous of aleena

You're welcome
