Just listening to "You are Free" by cat power on CD and have to get up every time track 11 "Names" comes on, i just despise it whilst loving the rest of the album.
Are there any other particular tracks you would like to remove from your favourite albums?

Embrace

on Low's 'Things We Lost In the Fire'.

Canada

on Trust.

It's just too heavy. Not what I want when I want to listen to an album like that.

You could edit details on itunes

and change it being on 'The Great Destoryer'. It would fit well there.

If you use itunes.

If you care enough to bother.

Bad Trails

from 'Atlas' by Battles. It's the song I always skip and it's totally pointless and gets so boring after 5 seconds

Mirrored

Treefingers by radiohead

seriously what the fuck, that isn't even music.

Treefingers is good in its context

Nude from In Rainbows as it feels completely out of context and is the one weak link in a pretty flawless album.

wow

I wouldn't have thought that was the obvious deletion choice from that album. I'd go for House of Cards. I really hate the lyrics and melody of the first line of the first verse and I haven't really been able to get past that. "I don't need a friend, I just need a love-er"+o(

*shocker*

I prefer House Of Cards to Nude.

I love the lyrics

Its not what you expect. The whole album feels warmer and more soulful in general than Radioheads previous albums. Its amazing how a small change in tone seems to have rejuvinated their sound somewhat. Nude belonged on CD2 with all the other generic radiohead sounding stuff.

Digsy's Dinner

on Definitely Maybe

I guess most DISers would want all Oasis tracks deleted though.

Nude

fits a lot better into the musical framework of In Rainbows than it should. Because its well known to be a song taken from a much older idea its easy to assume that it was put into the album without any consideration for its context.

but

despite the fact I've not been that familiar with it before In Rainbows it sounds like an old track.

Its just radiohead in generic indie mewling mode. It just sounds overly drearly and cliched. While the rest of the album has a certain warmth to it.

i think

the texture of Nude is much warmer and less "indie mewling" than a lot of In Rainbows (see: House of Cards and the horridly rehashed version of Videotape). But each to their own.

I dunno

It’s interesting how people get different ideas of different songs. It surprised me that both jigsaw and nude were the singles as I think they are the weakest tracks on the album. I shouldn’t complain as they are still pretty good songs, but hey its Radiohead, I’ll allow myself to be picky

I like the fact Videotape is rehashed. 15 Steps starts of electronic before the jazzy guitar comes in and it changes and becomes more warm and human. Videotape starts off human and then slowly swallowed by skipped beats and noise. The album comes full circle.

House of Cards is just a warm, soulful and slightly funky love song.

I agree that

Jigsaw isn't one of the album highlights. And I love the electronic soundscapes that almost come together towards the end of Videotape...but the ideas never quite coalesce. You misunderstand what I mean by rehashed - I mean that its another Radiohead song that had been kicking around for quite a while and had lots of potential.
As with House of Cards I think it comes across recorded as incredibly flat, and devoid of the energy which makes a lot of In Rainbows passable.
Im sure that this is purely subjective, but this is much more interesting than my dissertation.

Ah sorry

I see what you mean by videotape being rehashed. It doesn't coalesce at the end i agree, but isnt that the point? Its meant to break down and fall apart.

I had a chat with a mate about the new album a while back and he said similar things about it being flat and devoid of energy. I like it for being low key. Not as anthemic, sleepy and warm. A shift in tone from previous albums. Different tastes in the end. Good luck with the dissertation, it must be dull if its less interesting than my stupid ranting.

I get the feeling we have strayed from the point of the thread somewhat ;-)

nah mate

for an indie band oasis made some top tunes

Hmmm

I'd rather ditch 'Married with Children', just seems really pointless

no!!!

Definitely Maybe is quality. Shame on those who think otherwise!

Either Silver from Doolittle

OR

Come As You Are from Nevermind.

Wrong and wrong

It's Mr Grieves and Stay Away that should be politely asked to leave those respective records. I love Silver....like a theme song to a cheap druggy Western film.

aw but i love 'Stay Away'

Can we just leave 'Nevermind' alone?

silver

is beautiful

No

I would not do this. I'm happy to leave it as the artist's discretion and trust their judgement. A track you might not appreciate at one time you might fall in love with at another.

unless it's shit

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - Etiquette

'Holly Hobby' is AWFUL.

.

I really like that song, I really like that whole album.

Oh,

pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir.

Yeah man yeah, rock owwwt!!

erm,

wrong thread. sorry.

Please, more randomness like this!

I just snorted coke out of my nose...

Coca-cola, that is.

Of course, snorting "coke" coke out of my nose would be a waste of money.

Whereas

snorting coke normally is such a shrewd investment.

aLOL

:D

Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine

yes!

s

None spring to mind, but

maybe Naminote from Susumu Yokota's Sakura.
It's not a bad track by any stretch, I just don't think it really fits there.

Many more will inevitably spring to mind the second I click post...

Actually,

loads of skits from hip hop albums. Some are ok - some are great - but stuff like the 3-minute "dating game" from the middle of Handsome Boy Modelling School's White People would definitely be for the chop.

Skits are one of the main things

putting me off exploring hip hop more.

Scatterbrain

From Hail To The Thief. Shit song.

'Your Honor' from Regina Spektor's Soviet Kitsch

although I know none of you care.

That's the one that goes

der-ner-ner-ner-ner-ner-ner-ner der-ner-ner-ner-ner, yeah?
Why on earth d'you want to delete that??

because it completely jarrrrs the rest of the album

and it just sounds horrible in between an album of brilliant piano-based songs.

Would chop 'A Time To Be So Small' off the end of Antics

by Interpol. It's boring, and makes the record limp to a close

Paaaaaaaarty

off of Cross.
Justice's darkest hour!

First song on Atlas Sound album

Think it's called 'A Ghost Story'. It's a nice concept for one listen only, but after that listen, it's 3 minutes wait for the main event.

Interesting, I like it,

I would go for the other end, next exit is a skipper.

Really?

I love that as an opener, it's really different. I love the Hawaiian-y guitars and the drum outro. Each to their own, I guess.

Damn fine album, though. Unfairly cast as TOTBL's less successful, less charismatic cousin. (tho of course TOTBL is better!)

Come a little dog...

by Palace Brothers/Will Oldham. Such a stupid song.

'shadows of salford' from doves' some cities

the album as a whole isn't their best, but i still like it. that song though is just awful....the vocals from the drummer are so whiny. skip it every time.

Symmetry

from Frengers.

Also

Not that it's a bad song, The Apollo Programme Was A Hoax off of TSOPTC. After Tannhäuser/Derivé, it just feels like a step too far.

I reckon, its cool.

Shows so much variation on a hxc album.

^this

Probably

'Clementine' off The Decemberists' "Castaways & Cutouts" ... One of my favourite bands, and a great album, sub this is a badly-recorded sub-country dirge man!

*Goes off to listen to it again*

What, you think that's better than 'A Cautionary Tale'

Now that's a shit song. I really like Clementine, At that point in the album, it gets a little too sea-shantery for my liking, and that, and then ...Youth and Beauty Brigade steady the boat again, so to speak. Without A Cautionary Tale, that album is near perfect.

A Cautionary Tale

Is excellent - exactly what the Decemberists (and Colin Meloy) were all about at that time: Dark, medieval storytelling set to indie :-) Clementine, on the other hand, does nothing, goes nowhere, doesn't add to the album as a penultimate song ... I mean, it's between "Legionnaire's" and "California One" for god sake.... You need to stick a good tune in there, surely?

Support Our Troops might just be...

the worst song I've ever heard. So cringe worthy.

I would probably snip Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others off the Queen Is Dead.

WHat's wrong with names?

I tend to have to skip it because it makes my wife cry as the lyrics are so sad - but that doesn't make it a bad song does it? I would say it makes it a good, powerful song.

I would get rid of 'Atrocity Exhibition' off closer. Just sounds like they are trying too hard and it really doesn't work.

i really like Atrocity Exhibition

its one of my highlights of that album

this is clearly going to be one of those threads where nobody agrees with anybody lol

Now I'm torn...

between going 'well each to his own'

or

just shouting 'WRONG!'

Anyone got any thoughts?

The Atrocity

from Infinity Land

never was a song more aptly named.

some girls are bigger than others

from the queen is dead. the music is superb, but the lyrics make me cringe. shame.

my fav trk

from iceage to dole age........pure poetry, god you must be young.kidult..carry on puking.

that's my

favourite smiths song

boo to you

this^

Exactly.

Starfuckers, Inc.

from The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails

i agree

good call

Surprised nobody has mentioned

Car Crash Terror by M83. Cringe-o-rama.

From 'We'll Live and Die in These Towns' by The Enemy

i would delete the following:

1. Aggro
2. Away From Here
3. Pressure
4. Had Enough
5. We'll Live And Die In These Towns
6. You're Not Alone
7. It's Not OK
8. Technodanceaphobic
9. 40 Days And 40 Nights
10. This Song
11. Happy Birthday Jane

Fuck Buttons: Ribs Out

I like it, but it's just so out of place on the album. I hate skipping tracks, but it really irritates me on record in a way the live version never could.

pink cellphone

without doubt, it's awful.

too true

but I never skip it. it's too funny.

I concur

.

actually just get rid of the end of it

it's fine until the point the beat comes back in and that potty-mouth lass goes all Sarah Cox about the back of the Astoria

last song off Sound of Silver

a bit cringeworthy.

i think the title track is too

although an eight song album would have been a bit weak

dude nothing is wrong with that album

New York I Love You is hilarious.

New York I Love You...

is amazing - I love the fact that it changes the tone and pace of the album right at the end. It comes across like a beautiful, melancholy epilogue...

Or something.

your praise is too high

that song sounds obligatory but nothing amazing because he doesn't have the voice to convey all the words you used. I wouldn't delete it though. He suits cynicism and wit not emotional honesty.

I think the fact that his voice is better for cynicism and so forth

makes NYILY... all the better. Sure, his voice isn't great, but the flaws just add to the sincerity of what he's saying. I'm not claiming it as a masterpiece or anything, I just like it is all.

"Passive Manipulation"

and there you have a 5 star album.

also,
"I'm Sticking With You" from VU. That album is otherwise flawless.

Not the whole track

but 'Saturday Night Wrist' would be a 10/10 album without Annie Hardy's contribution on 'Pink Cellphone'

i've tried to cue up i tunes

to stop before her bit, didnt work though.

Student Demonstration Time

A truly awful song.

the first 4 minutes

off of Magdelen Bri
