If I can help it, I won't need one of these cause I'm never going to die!
But, I often hear people say "I want this or that played at my funeral." I wrote and delivered my Dad's eulogy last fall and I can't remember the music played and sung during the service- sad but true. I wanted to play "Mona Lisa" cause he was always singing it in the shower. If I do die play this: Type O Negative's cover of "Summer Breeze" I don't know why other than Type O rules when it comes to the subject of death.

Sorry to hear about your father.
They played "Ave Maria" at my nan's funeral. It was beautiful, but it made me cry loads.
Sad but true
was the music at your dad's eulogy? The kid rock version or the original metallica version? That would've been rocking that would.
Nat King Cole's version
.
I'm going to have
Bob Marley's Redemption Song and Let the Train Blow the Whistle by Johnny Cash during the service, and then Pressure Drop by Toots and the Maytals as everyone's leaving, just to cheer people up a bit.
Typing this makes me realise I probably think about my own death a bit too much.
I know
I felt like a jerk writing the thread, I don't want to bring the users down by thinking about death and music but it is interesting.

STEAL MY SUNSHINE
Mr Tambourine Man for me
I remember the first time I heard it, I knew it was the song I wanted at my funeral. It's still my favourite song ever.
A friend's grandfather died last summer. She was allowed to choose the music for the funeral, and as he was a huge fan of Ingrid Bergman, she chose the song of the same title by Billy Bragg & Wilco. Good choice, I think.
New Slang by The Shins
hopefully it won't be so synonomous with Garden State by the time i die, although i do love that film
ive had this planned for a while...
Flaming Lips - Do You Realize?
and then mayb The Ecstacy Of Gold from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
That's a goodie
the Lip's tune(makes you think it's gonna be alright) I've got the soundtrack but can't remember which track is xtc of gold
yeah a good happy death song
and then BLAM! an epic spaghetti western send off
aside
from the obvious ones of
meatloaf - bat out of hell
the doors - light my fire
etc...
I know this is only funny in an immature way, but I just keep imagining some old man reading a lovely poem for his recently deceased 80+ year old woman. From some pleasant rural retirement home, having lived a long time happily together.
And then ending with: but she was one hella gold diggin ho.
Or words to that effect. and then outcome Dre et al with
a bitch is a bitch
or something similar? I think that would be awesome
Light hearted?
when I was writing my Dad's eulogy
I had to be reminded several times that I was going to be giving the speech in a church.
gonna have
Ryan Adams - Firecracker (the Suicide Handbook version. I'm gonna have to emphasise that about a trillion times in my will, because I would *hate* to have the Gold version fuck up my funeral.)
and quite possibly Let There Be Morning by the Perishers.
Firecracker
I guess if they played the Gold version you wouldn't know but it'd suck anyway.
..
Sigur Ros - Untitled 1
and m83 - safe at my funeral.
I'm sorry to hear about your Dad, i can't remember the songs we chose for my Mums funeral either, so perhaps it's something commonly repressed? I tend to associate songs that helped me get through the time ... for example, the Christmas number one was Mad World at the time - so that song always reminds me of the Christmas she passed away.
Strange, i can hardly remember the funeral service either and it was only 4 years ago.
elliott smith - bye
