The ying to 'worst album cover's yang.

For me: 'Ocean Songs' by the Dirty 3 - cover painted by the guitarist I believe. Beautiful anyway.

I really like

EVOL's cover, it just seems to sum up Sonic Youth for me. I also really like The Shape of Punk to Come's cover, it's pretty swanky.

Joy Division - both of them

Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs
London Calling

NOW

that how good album covers should aim to be.

i want to put it on a t-shirt

or a t shirt

that your username is 'theriseofenglish' is full of delicious ironing.

Rye shirt.

Edible advertisement.

hahahahahahahahaha

hahahahahahahahahahah

come on die young

pretty creepy, but i think it actually reflects a lot of the sound of the album. y'know, not just a face, but something looming out of the darkness...? i'm probably talking pish now.

I know what you mean

I love it when an album cover accurately reflects the colour of the album itself.

Y'know - synaesthesia.

I'm changing my vote to

Mastodon 'Leviathan'. It's a great painting and it sums up the whole 'Does Exactly what it says on the tin' element of that album.

It should come bundled in a special edition with a copy of Moby Dick with the identical copy. That would be ace.

roxy music?

.

it has to be some filthy death metal cover

such as exhumed, or cannibal corpse. theyre always colourful

voila. beat this!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Thewretchedspawn%D0%94P.JPG

the top one is surely unbeatable

The cover for Goo

Or Gulag Orkestar, because I like old photos of people I don't know.

Loveless

it's quite mesmerising and reflects the music.

Burial

dont know, there's some enigma about it

Good call

I love the art on that, again, sums up what the music sounds like.

wow

that's really not even close to being the best album cover

Madvillain

Madvillainy

brap

^^^

I bought the album purely on the cover...

What? That Mermaid is beautiful!

I concede my spelling of 'yin' however. Thus you get to be right about one thing.

the mermaid is drab, clumsy and appallingly laid out

and the capital of Uruguay is Montevideo

The Mermaid pisses all over the appalling daub that graces the

front of 'Whatever you love you are'and the South African unit of Currency is the Rand.

OK

Mick Turner's artwork for 'Ocean Songs' is beautiful and it is snowing round my way. There.

another vote for Unknown Pleasures

stunningly conceived and complements the music perfectly

pinkerton

or surfs up

Low- Things We Lost in the Fire

Sparks- Kimono my House (can't believe nobody mentioned them yet)
Blonde Redhead- Misery is a Butterfly
Olivia Tremor Control- Both albums
Neutral Milk Hotel- In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
Antony and the Johnsons- I am a Bird Now

Everything by the legendary Peter Saville!

the man in a genius.

i like...

...that 'low' one as well.

Regular Urban Survivors by Terrorvision

Silver Sun's debut
Radiator and Guerrilla by SFA

rolling stones

Get yer ya ya's out is awesome :)

I bought this:

http://www.decoymusic.com/images/trackingthetrends/choose.jpg
based on the artwork. Well, that, and loving the Iris EP... but it was still the artwork that won out over the other possible purchase of the day (long since forgotten).

Also, I like this:

thelonius monk underground

without a doubt the best album cover, the stuffed nazi on the chair makes it

Doves

Last Broadcast

Album's ok

but the artwork to Lemonjelly's "Lost Horizons" is great.

Also second Leviathan.

I've always appreciated

Echo Park. Feeder's one and only worthwhile sleeve, but what a spectacle it is. Such scale.

Menomena

Friend and Foe is very good

Horse of the Dog - 80s Matchbox B-line Disaster

Either that or Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, so many pwity colours. :)

Menomena - Friend & Foe

Beck - The Information (home-made covers FTW!)

Martin Grech - Open Heart Zoo

The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium (reverse cover, e.g. man/Portuguese man of war above/below water Stomer Thorgerson effort)

Mars Volta

The lp sleeves have got progressively better (apart from the latest) and the music more bland. :P

Amputechture cover

is no way better than FTM or DitC

I like it

It's got a Street Fighter II nostalgia to it. I like it! The new LP art is so poor. As is the music really.

The Mars Volta cover art heirarchy.

1) Deloused In The Commatorium
2) The Bedlam In Goliath
3) Amputechre
4) Frances The Mute
