Hey Up,

Quite interesting in circuit bending, no idea where to start. Anyone know good artists/musicians/labels/festivals/promoters etc as a good point to start?

Any links/names much appreciated, really fascinated by the method/sound of the genre (if you can call it that!)

Thanks!

I don't know a lot about it...

but a friend was telling me about Circuit Benders the other night. They've got some good links from their site

Might be of some use.

awe

some! thank you!

Modified toy orchestra

and the work of brian duffy in general are the ones that first spring to mind...

Yes!

Thankyou for reminding me to listen to Modified Toy Orchestra. They're just brilliant.

We...

...released a 6 track 10" by 'Mewgatz' who's a circuit-bending pioneer from Oxford. He's currently making modified instruments for Efterklang. he's always up for helping people who are interested in the artform.

circuit bending

can be pretty simple. buy a cheap toy from a pound store, something like a gun that makes cool sounds is a good starting point. Then unscrew said toy and find the circuit board. now take a piece of wire and just begin connecting different points of the circuit board together with the wire whilst making the toy make a sound. This can be done in a random fashion (thats why its sometimes called anit science). when you make a connection that alters the sound in a cool way you can, for instance, add a variable resistor between the two points, giving you control over the "bend". this is how i started anyway, theres obviously a lot more to it btu you can get fun results this way
