There's a lot of hostility here towards Pete. I'm not a fan but I never understood why so many people claim to hate him so much. They're usually cite the fact he uses drugs. I never actually said he was above the law. The point I was making is that the general public are aware that he has had many court appearances for many offences and managed to dodge prison on a fair few occasions.

"I don't know much about his drug use" - he has been caught in possession of heroin and other class A drugs on several occasions. No matter what your opinion is on 'recreational' drug use is, I'm afraid, it is just an opinion. It is a criminal offence and one that a lot of repeated offenders do go to prison for. Many a time it is as a last resort but this young man has been given many chances.
and as for him "just getting smacked up" the bloke is a grown up. He has a child. He is supposedly a role model to this child.
I do not think he is a 'druggy cunt'. I think The Libertines were bloody brilliant. I think he has problems which are not easily rectified and this has led him to act very irresponsibly.

Drugged driving, criminal damage and I've just thought he went through a period of not turning up to gigs etc. which honestly, is a bit out of order when the people you're letting down really love your music and just want to see you play. All that stuff is pretty hard to excuse, and the fact he's got a kid, well...I'm sure the kid will turn out alright but you never know.
What I don't get is people posting stuff like daydreaming about him being beaten in prison and stuff. I just find a lot of people have this savage hate for the guy, yet when I ask why, they can never really seem to answer. And I can't take anyone saying they hate him 'cause he uses drugs seriously. So he's done heroin, so what? How did it bother any of the posters above my post? But yeah you're right, if he's getting preferential treatment then that's plain wrong.

a lot of people are really really really really fucking sick of hearing about him and resent him thusly - particularly as his 'talent', the thing that supposedly propelled him to this fame, is pretty debatable [i think there's a bit more widespread sympathy for amy winehouse, because whether or not you like the gal's songs, lady can seriously sing, you couldn't call her a waste of space]. one could blame the media but it's not like he hides from them. seems like he courts it pretty readily, which, given he's repeatedly breaking the law, comes across as arrogant.

I'll expand on why I think he's a twat
in his own head Doherty is this elegant shabby chic hybrid of Oscar Wilde, Dylan Thomas and Ray Davies. In reality he is a hybrid of Steptoe (of Steptoe and Son fame) and Chas N Dave. The few reasonably hummable tunes he has made have been eclipsed by his own attempts to flush his (and those around him; Kate Moss?!) lives down the toilet cos shooting up (and being a scabby Junkie) is more important than being remembered for having a decent body of work. In short I think his drug taking is a studied attempt to be some kind of hard living rock legend therefore he is even more detestable as he is a fake.
The boy has some talent
but he hasn't done a lot with it recently.
When it comes to drugs he's clearly pretty stupid and it does seem (to many of us) that some of the quantities and variety of drugs he keeps getting caught with would have entitled ordinary folk to a stay in prison earlier than this. Perhaps he is caught up in a romantic vision of the tortured artist or whatever, who really knows. He hasn't come across like that in the interviews I've seen on tv, but maybe.
I can see why people would be tired of him and his perceived antics but the hate does puzzle me.

presumably many of the people you work with are victims of circumstances and have had a lot of bad luck. Doherty comes across as someone who deliberately courts controversy and as I said he comes across as someone who has carefully constructed this image of being first and foremost all about drugs. Lots of my favourite musicians probably have and do take class As but they are more famous for their music and have the tunes to back it up.

many addicts actually try and help themselves/use the support provided to them once their problems are recognised by themselves and those around them. While it's fair to say that Doherty's made some steps in the right direction, he's not really done enough to prove that he's serious about kicking the habit and geting himself straight. The number of chances and warnings he's had over the past few years speaks for itself.
