Well I was in moood for some useless top10 thing so..

As I see it -

1)???
2)Emmy The Great - she´s just... great. best female songwriter in ages
3)Lovver - punk´s not dead!oh and that Richman thing!
4)4 or 5 Magicians - they seem to know what was alt. rock in 90´s about..
5)Johnny Foreinger - because they´re trying do to something new (something reminds me Youthmovies but I heard just few songs)
6)Favours For Sailors - heard just some demos and they can write a song that´s for sure
7)The Shackeltons - Make up would be happy of them..
8)Jaguar Love - not exactly new thing, but!
9)Let´s Wrestle - at least they´re funny..
10)Wet Paint - because they´re sons of Malkmus.. well..it´s better say this than say that they steal everything from him :)

What would you add? And why?

Well I think that this list isn´t bad but still.. I´am loosing faith in new music little bit these days :/ really couldn´t remember which debut album in last few months was really really that great..
so.. am´I wrong? And can you prove it? :)

looking forward to your opinions!

(and excuse my english, thanks)

Also

Born Ruffians' debut album is the best album released this year.

1. Grammatics

2. Maps And Atlases

That'll do for now.

No way!

The vocals ruin that band.

Not true

They're too up front in the recording

And they sound like pirates.

Yeah

Agreed, other than that though, they're great.

Maps & Atlases

released their first EP in 2005, so I don't think that really counts as "new".
But yeah, they're really supagood.

and that wasn't meant to sound

as pedantic and annoying as it probably did.
:'''''(

I was going to say something similar about the (ace) Emmy The Great

..but after seeing your immediate remorse for your post, I decided against it. But you're right though. Seems the truth really does hurt. *sob*

Joe - www.anewbandaday.com

I imagine this thread won't be popular with most DiS'ers

because of the whole 'OMG THEY'RE NOT NEW I'VE HEARD THEM FOR YEARS FNAR FNAR' lark.
but oh well, here's my list of bands that don't have albums out.
1.) Late Of The Pier
2.) Broken Records
3.) Cajun Dance Party
4.) Wild Beasts
5.) frYars
6.) Rolo Tomassi
7.) Emmy The Great
8.) Lucy And The Caterpillar
9.) Make Model
10.) Black Kids

Johnny Foreigner

were not very good when i saw them at the buffalo bar, supporting john & jehn.

um

THAT WASNT US!

Cajun Dance Party's album is brilliant

It gave me an oppurtunity to give a cd a good review for a change. Although Amylase is frustratingly below the standard of the rest of the album

lucy and the caterpilLOL?

but seriously, what's wrong with her?

erm

To name ten would be hard, sometimes its hard to find one, but I'll give it a go, and these are in no order of superiority.

1. Johnny Foreigner
2. School Of Language
3. Foals (I'm ready for the backlash, but I truly believe they are a good band)
4. Spank Rock (Still new?, I revisited there album recently)
5. MGMT
6. Holy Fuck
7. Vampire Weekend
8. Dead Meadows
9. Let's Wrestle
10. Grizzly Bear (Again, do they really count?)

That was hard, and maybe totally random. I really need to listen to some more new music. Suggestions?

stuff i've HEARD recently

that is great - not necessarily 'new'
their hearts were full of spring
dexy & the hand me downs
lily rae
nebraska
ten city nation
eugene mcguinness
this will destroy you
lucero
superman revenge squad
the understudies
eluvium

and the best of helmet - always worth a purchase!

In no particular order

not to go against the title of the thread but I'd be here for ages otherwise.

1. Rolo Tomassi
2. The Battle Of Land and Sea
3. PRE
4. Johnny Foreigner
5. White Denim (because their melodies sound complex but so engaging)
6. Charlottefield (their not THAT new I know but their new to me)
7. Hapytap
8. Fuck Buttons
9. Colour (as in http://www.myspace.com/colouruk a guilty pleasure)
10. Maths

Colour...

...are great.
Tubelord
Blakfish
Copy haho

I would have to say...

Emmy the great is amazing,
My current Top bands are:

- Late of the Pier
- Johnny Foreigner
- Elle s'apelle
- Tellison
- White Denim
- White Lies
- Band of Horses
- Blood Red shoes
- MGMT
- Tokyo Police Club
- Casiotone for the painfully alone

band of horses have been around for years...

but still are absolutely awesome.

Blackhole get my vote.

...this I know

they're just currently one of my top bands of the moment.

I had my ipod on shuffle due to absolute boredom and 'Is there a Ghost' came on. I had forgotten how much I love that song. I literally almost did a mini dance in the tube.

Johnny Foreigner

Danananananananananaanananananan
4 or 5 Magicians
Blood Red Shoes (are they still 'new'?)
Gossamer Albatross
Pete and The Pirates

Loads more I'm sure, but, I only really listen to records from 1994 now.

Atlas Sound (if that counts)
Johnny Foreiger
I Was A Cub Scout
Penninies
Instruments
Born Ruffians
This Town Needs Guns

There isnt an order really

how could I forget

Danananakroyd......... or how ever you spell um.

Oh, forgot to add.......

THE STEAL

Possibly the best melodic hardcore band in the entire world right now.
The Americans love them, Dan Yemin of Lifetime/Kid Dynamite/Paint it Black thinks they're 'the most important band to happen to hardcore in years'.

http://www.myspace.com/thesteal

Bombay Bicycle Club

Currently in my list.

1. Copy Haho

2. The Dodos

4^

;-)

ten new (or relatively new) bands I'm enjoying

1)Hjaltalín- perhaps my current favourite Icelandic band, which says a lot.
2)Jong Pang- great Danish band, with their debut album just released/am looking forward to.
3)Yoyoyo Acapulco- from Norway, and like a stripped down version of I'm From Barcelona
4)Detektivbyrån- another Scandinavian band, cool instrumental songs
5)Sons Of Noel & Adrian- my favourite discovery from End Of The Road last year
6)The Choir Practice- some sickly polyphonic spree/choir'esque band you'll either hate or not hate
7)Kinit Her- strange goblin type spooking singing/songs, from somewhere in America
8)A Scandal In Bohemia, a nice female fronted Brighton band, although it looks like they may be changing their name, so, err, yeah, these guys.
9)Laura Gibson, lovely songs has she
10)Bowerbirds, now that they've found a proper label, they may get more of the recognition they deserve. Great album from last year.

In no particular order...

Fang Island - www.myspace.com/fangisland
Colour - www.myspace.com/colouruk
Tubelord - www.myspace.com/tubelord
Copy Haho - www.myspace.com/copyhaho
Pennines - www.myspace.com/pennines
A Classic Education - www.myspace.com/aclassiceducation
Wintermute - www.myspace.com/wintermute

That'll do.

I realise a lot of these have been going way too long to be described as 'new', but I don't make the rules

woah

fang island = ace. thanks!

Yeah they're awesome

Makes me want to high-five people

Thanks

if Emmy is #2, that's eight artists I don't have to bother with.

Why has everyone got

such a stiffy on for Emmy the Grate?
She's so mediocre she'd turn into a beige pair of curtains if she had the imagination.

fleet foxes

fleet foxes
fleet foxes

are mindblowing.

she writes very clever words

with brilliant and clever tunes

plus she is clever and hot and funny
so
what exactly is there not to like?

errr, no she doesn't

no they aren't
plus she is not on any account "clever or funny." Ok some her output is laughable.

She may well be hot but all she needs to do to remedy that is take out that mink coat that Daddy bought her.

*off

blinded by my own negativity

This thread is crap

And this is what's new to my ears:

1. The Mae Shi
2. Kap Bambino
3. Bloody Beetroots
4. OH GOD THIS IS SO BORING

8)Obscure Crap Indie Band no. 8
9)Obscure Crap Indie Band no. 9
10)Obscure Crap Indie Band no. 10

HAHAHAHA I'M SO FUNNY AHAHAHAHA

Nah, Obscure Crap Indie Band no.6 have totally sold out

and why no mention of Obcure Crap Indie Band no.27?

I'm telling you, they're the next Camapg Velocet!

hahaha

i was thinking that too...

id say

in no particular order...

TELEPATHE
BANJO OR FREAKOUT
INVISIBLE CONGA PEOPLE
HIGH PLACES

you should all listen to them cause all the bands you said are nothing new!

:-)

Johnny Foreigner

I saw them supporting young knives in Glasgow last month:

I honestly thought they were one of the worst bands I've seen in a long time

And I was far from the only person in the crowd to have thought this.

By the last few songs, barely anyone was even bothering to clap, even just to be polite!

Thats only because

they had replaced Vampire Weekend, who most people had came to see. I agree they weren't at their best that night but give them another chance, you'll be glad you did!!

I'm out of touch

although I'm not sure that's such a band thing.

^STEVE HOLT!!!^

Who's yer daddy? Gob.

Sorry, great name though...

all the new stuff's been a bit

gash of late.

New to my ears:

Gowns
Antarctica Takes It
7 Hertz
John Maus
Mae Shi
Born Ruffians
Loons
Sweet Heat (unrecorded demos)
Barr
UMMM umm UMMMM

^ sneaky JAG

http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/3141143

i know this is about NEW bands, but surely a band that you just thought up the other day are maybe a weeeeee bit too new to be classed as one of the top 10 new bands at the moment...?

:p

Cats and Cats and Cats?

? = are they new, I think so, I never know these things.

no mention of the Dodos so far?

they are rather ace IMHO

Been around for a few years now

but no album yet so I suppose so. What do you have of theirs? If the answer isn't everything, sort it out

Please say...

that was a joke about liking Cats and cats and cats.
They are awful.
I saw them once, died.
Saw them again to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Died again.

Jaguar Love

Love this band!! it sounds like they took off from where Crimes (blood brothers) ended.

I'd also add Dirty Pretty Things..not sure if they'd be considered new but they're definitely a great band...only wish they toured more

Erm, some bands that are newish to me anyway

Held By Hands
Algernon Cadwallader
Ólafur Arnalds
Johnny Foreigner
Pennines (if anyone with a myspace account wants to download the tracks on their page and send them to me, I'll love them forever and ever)

Daniel

did you not get the email I sent you?

I'm going to redo my list

I made an attempt last night but got really bored.

1. The Mae Shi

Johnny F, late of the pier and Blood red shoes have been around forever so not goin to mention them...shit, too late

Where did you see I Say Marvin?

They used to gig loads in Cornwall before moving to Brighton, but they seem to have dropped off the radar a little.

1. Evil Gazebo

2. I'm In Rome And Slighlty Sad
3. The Everposture
4. Mother My Elbow
5. Pantherquil\0.1
6. Top Of The Brill Building
7. 'Em' is 'Me' Backwards
8. QuantumSleep
9. Radical Statistics
10. The Wedding Present

here's seven:

1) ELLE MILANO : album out on monday. shame noone seems to care. it's going to be awesome anyway.
2) Broken Records : blah blah I interviewed them for my local newspaper last august. can i claim ownership of them now?
3) Copy Haho - yayyy.
4) Frightened Rabbit - clearly not a new band seeing as their second album comes out next week, but they need more recognition as they're (one of the) best band(s) in scotland right now.
5) Sky Larkin - amazing.
6) The Teacups - this band are going to change music forever. NO JOKE. www.myspace.com/theteacups
7) Johnny Foreigner - yes yes everyone knows.

The Elle Milano

Album is quality, 'Laughing all the way to the plank' is awesome. Cant wait for Frightened Rabbit either 1st album had some nice moments

I like the Elle Milano album too

Been listening to that for a while now, although I didn't realise it hadn't yet been released

I haven't really stopped listening to it since I got it

It also seems to be helping my Pro Evo.

They should use that to market the record

"Buy our album - it'll make you better at Pro Evo"

My band

Doesn't even have a name yet but when we do it will be like when Krispy Kreme's finally came to England. maybe a free acoustic set when you're in the queue (like the plain glazed one they'd give you - but why? One doughnut is all you need sometimes, surely? that'd do me fine).

I can't think but I'd say MGMT are up there and check out Micachu & The Shapes.

Original list was very nice..

my band...Favours For Sailors
my old band... 4or5 Magicians
and Lets Wrestle.

The proper list would have to add JoFo, Copy Haho, Danananana to it.

Other good new bands are My Physchoanlyst (I can't spell anymore) who have bulked up from 3 to 5 = MONSTER NOISE
and Wintermute.

Also Stars and Sons and Hour Hands.
