Suede?
Fuck off.
The answer is the Stone Roses. Or possibly Elastica.
the first
Suede album is excellent. Agreed on Elastica.
Indeed it is.
So are the second and third.
Do you like The Second Coming, then? Because you'll be the first person ever.
THE STILLS
...second album was awful
no
it wasn't !
hey I like it
:/
Dog Man Star is a much, much, much better than Suede
Plus if they'd split you wouldn't have Sci-Fi Lullabies, Coming Up or indeed the smattering of good songs on their last couple of albums.
Arguing Suede should have split after their first album may be the single most ludicrous argument anyone's made about music in history.
The Arcade Fire
i think i'm the only person
who likes their second album as much as the first. for entirely different reasons, it's still ace.
No, you're not
I absolutely loved their first album, but having listened to their second for ages, when I go back to Funeral, it just seems....kind of empty.
Still some amazing tracks on there, and it's still such a great album, but I think the second is better. And the lyrics are great on Neon Bible, too.
I believe the phrase is
grandeur.
This thread is so ungrateful
Plus, re: Gang Of Four, we wouldn't have 'What We All Want'. Makes their entire post-Entertainment! career worth it.
Disagree on Oasis
what's the story isn't as good as definitely maybe but there's still some very good tracks on there.
my votes go to:
violent femmes
burning brides
interpol (maybe?)
Hmm
I actually think the last Interpol one's their best yet, I do like TOTBL but I find Antics a bit annoying for some reason
Not Mansun
Six, the second, is their best record.
And I'd argue I Can Only Disappoint U is their single finest song.
Which obviously came post-first album too.
Ok
As long as no one mentions 'Electric Man'...
^
yep.
Hot Hot Heat
That's all I can think of right now
What?
But elevator is great! there's some good songs on the new one too.
Genesis
Sisters of Mercy
the Strokes
Hefner
Hefner?
Is it 'patently absured arguments' day or something?
Or absurd even.
omg
oh dear. i can understand why people might not like dead media so much, but seriously...
seriously?!?!?!
Bloc Party
Also agree with The Strokes.
The Libertines
although they effectively did.
Mansun?
Six is better than Grey Lantern, and even Little Kix is unfairly maligned - it has some great moments.
The Bronx
The Strokes
ABC
Daft Punk
The Weakerthans
The Moody Blues
NO to the stokes.
without room on fire we wouldn't have our favourite strokes song, would we?! :(
what the fuck is that then
someday isnt on room on fire and thats everyones fave, unless theyre stupid
no i was talking to ross.
and it's automatic stop.
Shh Lauren.
My favourite Strokes song is actually Trying Your Luck. Automatic Stop is probably second, though, to be fair.
FINE
alright, MY favourite song, YOUR second favorite song.
second weakerthans
is the bestun!
oh man
there is NOTHING wrong with room on fire! it's just not as initially tantalizing as is this it.
also fuck that, dude, discovery is fucking ripped
The Bronx?!
How the fuck can you not like the second album? You sir, are a madman of epic proportions.
Now go listen Rape Zombie and Three Dead Sisters and go pay your penance.
no to the bronx
second album is ACE
Massive Attack
Mezzanine beats Blue Lines hands down overall.
The Verve
Honistly Urban Hyms posibly the best alubum of the 90s all the rest is not that good.
erm...
^
hahahah
It pains me to say it...
But The Futureheads. third album is not nearly the 'return to form' we've been promised.
The Primitives
Llloyd Cole and the Commotions
Placebo
hope of the states
but they hung around just long enough to stain the sheets of their legacy with a patchy 2nd album.
leaked then?
Bloc Party
The Bled
Nay
I really enjoy Found In The Flood and Silent Treatment. Pass The Flask's the best, yes, but I'm very happy they continued. AND YOU SHOULD TOO.
hundred reasons?
most obvious overlooked candidate:
The Strokes
radiohead
oh no wait, the first one was gash too.
*starts an awesomely angry argument*
I really enjoy
Solid Gold. It just takes a different mind set
Television
Yes.
Supergrass
<tuppenceworth given>
Manics
they should have at least come back as New Manics Order or something...
No!
Adventure isn't a patch on Marquee Moon (anyone would be a fool to suggest so), but it's still a very strong album and would be rated far higher were it not for its predecessor.
Tears for Fears
also...Weezer.
Now as much as i love Pinkerton and it's one of my favourite albums, can you imagine how high the Blue Album would have been held up as a classic album and them as a classic band? It's a pretty much flawless pop-rock album, and would probably be ranked much much higher in "best albums ever" lists too.
I guess if they quit at Pinkerton they still would have received similar acclaim, the commercial successful album and the cult-classic. I think if they had waited another 2 or 3 years to release Pinkerton it would have done much better than it initially did when it was released both commercially and critically.
Totally agree with Gang of Four though, nothing beats Entertainment in their back catalogue.
No no no.
Songs From The Big Chair is so, so much better than The Hurting. Although they're both ace.
There's a bunch of songs from the other four I like, but I could probably live without them all (except maybe Woman In Chains).
tears for fears are rubbish.
DIE
fuckoff
No, just die
nah...
Songs from the Big Chair is just way way too epic/bland for my liking, in many ways i see that as the template for the likes of Coldplay, U2 and any other band at the moment who have that "big" stadium sound, y'know?
What i like about The Hurting is that it sounds to me like it was done relatively cheap (well, in comparison to the other albums!) yet the vocals sound massive. The songs are really catchy yet at the same time they've got such strange arrangements and instrumentation, Mad World in paricular.
Not to say that there isn't any good songs on the other albums. If i listen to Head Over Hills i feel like i'm in a John Hughes film or something, it's amazing. :D
OH!
Just thought of the perfect one for this...
Head Automatica!
That album with Dan The Automator was fantastic, but the one that followed it was so stomach churningly bland I've never managed to listen to it all the way through.
thats quite a good one
but nothing fits this profile more than guns n roses
definitely
GnR
sorry to say it but....
The Mars Volta
i do really like Frances the Mute, and the others, but nothing beats Deloused!
should have stopped at
relationship of command!
^
nononononononono
deloused sux d00d
.
nope
kenickie
first album was great, 2nd was er um gash
yourcodenameis:milo
Chapterhouse
'Whirlpool' was great, 'Blood Music' not so.
The Wonder Stuff. '8 Legged Groove Machine' gets a big thumbs up, the rest a patchy meh.
The Beta Band. 'The 3 EPs' were spot on, if not technically an album as such. Everything else paled by comparison.
Go listen to Six by Mansun ...
... then come back and say they should have split after the first album. Epic stuff.
(and while you're at it, Whats The Story Morning Glory is quite good too)
It's Mansuns third
that really blows. Wretched piece of pop cack.
It still has
Butterly, I Can Only Disappoint U, Comes As No Surprise and Until The Next Life on it. Oh, and the ending of Goodbye is the best way for any band to end their career.
Rest of it's shite though, yeah.
Cooper Temple Clause
Although I the Hardware/Warfare EP was great & that came after See This Through and Leave.
Even though the second album was awful, I felt they still had another great album in them….nevermind, eh?
^
I didn't realise Chapterhouse HAD a second album!!
I really liked they came from the sun
Not as much as ignoto to be fair but it was still a good album.
They Came From The Sun
is a really good piece of work, and I will not have you bad mouth it.
Now go self flagellate youself ;)
It's very average.
Average is such a bad place to be.
I'll agree it has it's flacid bits
but when it picks up, its picks up nicely
(see To The Cars/Screaming Ground combo)
The Llama Farmers
First album great, second album is the worst album I have ever heard in my entire life.
Yes yes yes.
This is absolutely true. I am still in love with the bassist though.
Even though I've forgotten her name.
i think it was
jess.
I believe
it was about half way through the song that went "and then we got drunk and danced to Marvin Gaye" that I turned off the stereo, removed the CD, and locked it into a metal box never to be seen again.
This actually happened. Terrible album.
Shudder.
But the first album was so good!
Particularly "Yellow". A friend of mine had an early demo of this which was even better, if possible.
Also, their cover of "I Don't Want to Talk About It" was brilliant.
I thought her name was Jenny. Good job she's not here! I'd have embarrassed myself.
Jenni Simpson
according to Amazon
'PVC' is easily the sexiest female vocal on a mid 90's post grunge brit rock album
I was right!
Woop woop.
well
stanford prison experiment
minus the ep, second album makes me pull bits off myself
