Just been listening to Counters by Young Knives, what a great chorus that is...
sitting in the front seat
turning on the motor
sucking on a hosepipe
keep it turning over
Just got me thinking about other great suicide songs. Frankie Teardrop by, ahem, Suicide, comes to mind.
Any other family faves?
So when are you planning on killing yourself?
'Suicide Pact, Yeah?' by Johnny Foreigner
and every song by Elliott Smith which isn't a love song. Plus some of the ones which are.
^ it's all about elliot smith

I HATE MY BODY :@:@:@:@::@9
I HATE THE DESERT
Anything
by Leviathan. I think he even belongs to the oh so melodramatic 'suicidal black metal' subgenre so the boxes are all pretty much ticked.
Replying in the right place this time...
SUICIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE... Suicide INVOICE. What else is there... I'm tempted to go through my whole music collection. And also to use less ellipses. 'Swingin' Party' by The Replacements? That's about suicide, isn't it?
really?
I'm not sure if it is, or whether it's just a really regretful song from the perspective of someone contemplating (natural) death.
Here Comes A Regular is even sadder, I think. It's actually devastating.
There used to be an article on Wikipedia called 'Songs About Suicide'
and it listed 'Swingin' Party', so I just assumed it was right. Especially because listening to it frequently gives me images of a load of hanged bodies, lined up in a row, swinging from side to side like some giant, human Newton's cradle.
'Here Comes A Regular' makes me laugh because it reminds me of Cheers, then makes me think of one of the regulars, like Norm or Cliff, saying "Am I the only one who's starting to feel a *tiny* bit pathetic here?"
This isn't it, but
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicides kept me busy for an entire evening.
Actually, reading that reminds me
that there's this guy called Joshua Goldberg who has a concept album about Chris Benoit's double murder-suicide.
Oh, Jesus!
.
I started listening to it earlier
It's really good!
looking at that list...
there are a lot of wrestlers, including 3 brother.
Cheer up wrestlers.
What happened to that guy last year?
Murder-suicide was it?

War

Barenaked Ladies.
Scratches by John Frusciante. That always makes me think of suicide, or uber depression (the medical term) or something just sad.

one of the truly unexpected, special and unhinged things they did, how I miss you by foo fighters works as a companion piece despite it being a dave grohl pop song...

Jumpers - Sleater Kinney
Pretty sad and horrible but a good song none the less.
i'm not sure
but "i hate myself and i want to die" by nirvana always makes me think there's something a little suicide-ish to that song.
Has no-one said 'Theme from MASH' yet?
I keep checking and it still keeps not being there.

(so much blood from such a tiny little hole)
problems have solutions
a lifetime of fucking things up fixed in one determined flash
everything's blue
in this world
the deepest shade of mushroom blue
all fuzzy
spilling out of my head
I've never understood
why mushroom blue? Why not, say, duck egg blue?
I can't think of a blue mushroom. Even in Mario.
maybe he was killing himself
because he was colour blind?
The Glow Pt 2 by The Microphones
incredible song, can't belive no-one's mentioned it
Its not really about suicide..
..and I can't remember the title but the song by Destroyer
"No man has ever hung, from the rafters of a second home... at the temporary age of 24, with both feet on the floor"
it's not really about suicide?
"could not get through september without a battle
i faced death
i went in with my arms swinging
but i heard my own breath
i had to face that i'm still living
i'm still flesh
i hold on to life with feelings
i'm not dead
there's no end
my face is red
my blood flows harshly"
it is about the aftermath as well, sure, but the main point of the song is that he's lost 'the glow', can't take it, tries to commit suicide, fails and has to see what that means.
i will follow you into the dark: Death Cab
Let's Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and to be Loved)
