BBC 6 Music’s George Lamb has been nominated for an award in this year’s Sony Radio Awards.
The DJ is given a nod in the category of ‘DAB Rising Star’, where he’s up against Kelly Osbourne (Radio 1), Amy Jones (Kerrang Radio), ‘The Hywel and Jamie Experience’ (Rock FM) and ‘The Rob Ellis Show’ (Galaxy Manchester).
“Since his radio debut in April last year,” states the nomination blurb; “George has become the latest star of BBC 6 Music with his blend of surrealist humour, irreverent interviewing techniques and tongue-in-cheek antics.”
It’s the first year the category has existed, so there’s no accounting for form.

I kinda thought this was the remit of 6 music - "closer to the music that matters". If I wanted to listen to "surrealist humour, irrelevant interviewing techniques and tounge-in-cheek wantics" then I'd listen to Terry Bleedin Wogan.

I think that's the root of it. Blatantly he's being pushed to be a "presenter" - some vapid tv vehicle where he can be oggled is inevitable. What irritates me is that a slot on a more ..intellectual?/niche radio station, (that was once Really Good!!!), is apparently just a precursor.

It's all very well to replace good DJs with wank-dribbling idiots in search of a new audience but the BBC should give us a station that the old audience can actually listen to.
