I hate B, the one at the second fret. It's so awkward. I've been playing guitar for 1 year and 4 months and still find it a hassle.

..
buy a capo.
Cheating.
Play it at the seventh fret then?!
How would that work?
It would sound silly, it's too high.
Seventh Fret
E string
Play an E shape barre at the seventh fret
It's almost identical, and if anything, better, as you have all six strings and not just five.
Bloody hell.
Just because it's much higher I've always thought it wouldn't sound right.
well it depends on your setup
but the same note played on different strings will always sound a little bit different. timbre etc...
It's easier to play
and sound exactly the same.
well not exactly...
aw
I was so close, damn that one tiny little note at the bottom! ;)
F chords are a bitch
for me, but yeah the obvious solution is higher on the neck.
A chords, you mean.
B Major at the second fret is an A shape.
It's an F shape at the seventh fret.
...
I find that is useful to play f chords like this:
E--x-|
A--x-|
D--3-|
G--2-|
B--1-|
E--1-|
he just said that he finds F chords difficult.
don't think it was in relation to the original post.
learn to read.
learn to fuck off.
.
?
Its basic shape is just a power chord played on the A string, second fret. So in theory it shouldn't be any harder than any other basic chord - and since you can move that shape up and down the neck with impertinence, it should in theory be much easier than any of the open chords...
no it isn't.
power chords are basic triads without a third. so B Major != B power chord.
I suddenly hate guitars
why? because 'theory' isn't cool enough?
.
If that's what you want to call it
punk rock ftw!
are you one of those 'purists' who thinks that not being able to play your instrument lends you more artistic integrity?
we're talking about playing a chord. hardly disussing the finer points of steve vai's soloing technique...
Cheer up pal
ps Punk Rock ftw!
someones in a good mood
My lack of theory lets me down again.
I admit, I know nothing. This man claims to though:

crikey.
i wonder if he has 14 second clips of every chord? cool though. in my day we had to learn from books! can you imagine?
After all that guff
He ends up playing one of the most hideous sounding B chords ever. Weird.
do a b7 then
God no
12 bar blues arrrrgh
A difficult one is
E X
A 4
D 6
G 8
B 0
E 0
It's the emo chord. Try it yourself, the emo chord!
another one
horror movie thing. If you pluck each note seperately it sounds cool.
E X
A 5
D 7
G 3
B 3
E X
god that chords so emo
then move to
E X
A 2
D 4
G 6
B 0
E 0
Urgh
it's like summoning Taking Back Sunday :(
^ worse
because then it shows off the weakness of the finger on the g-string
nuh-uh
Bflat major is the worst, if we're talking simple chords, un-capo'd and played as low-pitched as possible
Correct, I don't know why I said Bmajor.
b minor sounds better anyway
Cm
Cminor is lovely and easy.
*cum
I just play it on the 7th fret and play the low B with my thumb
i'm cool
this thread makes me feel even rubbisher at guitar
bmajor
at the second fret.
you don't need to play the high F# on the E string - you're already playing an F# on the D string. i play the chord (and all A shape barre chords) by playing the bass note with my index fineger, and barring the D/G/B strings with my little finger, making sure i'm muting the high E string.
^ it's not as hard as that might make it sound.
Hmm
Are you using all four fingers to play it or do you bar the B, G and D strings with your third finger/pinky? The latter is way more convenient once you get used to it.
using your third/ring finger to bar over in the A shape
is surely better as it opens up to the little finger being able to do more, maybe like little changes and another chord shape which i have forgotten the name.
this is what i do with the ring finger
though it's quite rare for me to the B chord on the second fret.
it really really really isnt.
really.
