Why not stage the cuts?
Have an inch taken off, see what you think, then take another inch off, all the while asking for tweaks here and there, and so on. It'll take a lot longer, but that way you can avoid not having enough hair left to alter any mistakes as things take shape.
girls cuts
are more elaborate (for lack of a slightly better word) and expensive than guy cuts, so that's less of a good option for women.
But it's being cut short
So surely shouldn't cost more than a man would pay.

I was assuming she meant no longer than a couple of inches, which wouldn't really require that much effort.
Perhaps
in the 2-3yrs it's taken to grow the hair out, when specifying what haircut you'd like to the person cutting your hair, it slowly dawns that they have no idea how to cut the way you're describing as the last time someone asked for it was 3yrs ago! Patience quickly lost it results in the old "just shave it off then" remark.
Either that or you just get sick of one extreme and go to the other, forgetting that you have the same shaped head as a mouldy potato!
Personally, with long hair, I resent paying 'womens' prices to get my ends sorted.

Really weird this thread came up.
My mate's boyfriend just cut his long hair short and I think he really suits it. Makes him look all sophisticated and handsome. Nobody agrees with me, including him.
