Does anybody else think that Bows + Arrows by The Walkmen is a classic album?

I'm not expecting a massive response on this.

Neither am I expecting rounds of vitriol.

It's just that I think it is, and I'd like to know that somebody else did too.

I only know

The Rat which is fantastic. A friend of mine told me the album didn't live up to that standard so I never got round to buying it. Was he wrong?

same

am i missing out? I've heard it is good from some people, but again the rat... etcetc

the rat is freaking amazing

the rat

is pretty much a standalone song, the rest of the album is slower...in fact slow pace

not a bad thing, though

I love the walkmen

absolutely, all their albums i really like for their own quality

everyone who pretended to like me - great because of it's slighlty off kilter experimentation

bows + arrows - because of great songwriting plus atmosphere. litle houe of savages is one of the best songs ever

hundred miles - love the lack o studio manipulation, and general togetherness of the album

pussycats - cos it's ridiculously fun

everyone who pretended to like me is gone

is one of my favourite albums. Bows + Arrows is more grabbing but not as deep/brilliant. Both are great releases. Not sure what "classic" means so I can't comment on that.

yes actually.

i played 138th street last night, and thought exactly the same thing. i have never listened to anything else they've ever done just because i can't see how they could improve on bows + arrows.

I was watching...

Never Mind The Buzzcocks on Dave last night and Russel Howard was wearing a Bows + Arrows tshirt.

^ yeh i noticed that. he knos his music

i wouldnt say b&a is a classic but there are some classic tracks on there, like - what's in it for me, rat, little house of savages. Hundred miles off was a bit disappointing. but still theyre one of those bands you have to give attention to.

i love the walkmen

i think all their albums are goood! i think hundred miles off is great and more immediate than bows and arrows; which is quite a slow burner and a grower on top of that!?

I really liked

the way it didn't try to all sound like the rat. It's a varied album, and a real grower. Definitely very good. Classic though? Hmmm, not so sure...

Don't like the word classic but...

...this is probably the album that i find myself coming back to time and time again the most. It hasn't lots any of it's original glory. Of all those NYC bands i think these guys come out tops.

I think their first one is better

but doesnt have the rat on it which I honestly believe is in the top 5 song ever written

Their debut is the best album-

all the songs are very good.

Bows and Arrows has 3 great songs on it but the rest aren't up to that standard.
