Anyone know anything about this band? I keep seeing them mentioned, and they sound like they rock lots.

Anyone know what their best stuff is?

the make-up

from years back. they were kinda gospel-y garage with silly revolutionary manifesto lyrics and sleevenotes. they looked fucking awesome - titl fashun - and were really quite fun. of their albums, i remember liking 'after dark' the most

make up

one of the best band ive ever seen live.absolute genius.avoid weird war though.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPVTB4QY2lo

Ta!

Ta.

i hate to say it

but, yeah, avoid weird war...i have illuminated by the light, listened to it a few times a year ago, not picked it up since

Fantastic band

I miss them greatly. I would suggest starting at the beginning: Destination Love: Live at Cold Rice is their earliest album and also one of their best. You will probably fall for them listening to that.

You gave me a lozange

(I can't do the voice)

Nation of Ulysses > The Make Up

harder faster and more rock.

great band

their discography is pretty solid. i love 'in mass mind' myself but everything's worth getting :)

Save Yourself

is a truly great album. Their version of Hey Joe is fantastic.
I've got the self titled Weird War album and really like that too. Make Up are much better though. Wish I'd seen them live.

i love N.O.U.

but dislike weird war. where in the spectrum does the make-up sit?

Fantastic band.

In Mass Mind and Save Yourself are both terrific albums, and Sound Verite is pretty good, too. They also have a wicked singles collection called I Want Some.

They really effectively mixed gospel, punk, soul, hardcore and polemic that doesn't make you want to hit them. Some fantastic brass arrangements in Save Yourself. All their stuff is awesomely recorded, too; a very rich, live sound, very bass-heavy but still really accurate in the treble too.

They don't rock so much as swing or groove. Way more musical than some would suggest. Ian Svenonious, the singer, is meant to be a bit of a cockfarmer but the only interview I ever read with him (circa Save Yourself in 1999) was pretty interesting, and he said some thought provoking things about sex and advertising.

live at cold rice

sounds like a live album but they actually recorded it in the studio.

i play 'they live by night' when i dj and i always get two or three people coming up asking me who it is.

they are wicked.

i saw the make up in australia

clearly im the only one who wasnt that impressed with them.
