Alison Krauss + Robert Plant

Raising Sands was one of the most critically well recieved albums of last year I guess, yet I don't think i've seen it mentioned once on here.

I think it's cos it's not ridiculous enough for on here. They're not claiming to be "breaking musical boundaries, yeah?" and the songs havn't got stupid names. They're both over 25 and I'm pretty sure they don't have cool haircuts.

The album is really quite good though. Sure it's nothing new but the songs are just all really nice, well instrumented and played with nice harmonies and stuff. I don't love it or anything, just think it should get some recognition on here or something.

So, REPRESENT.

My uncle was telling me

that it has the best tambourine playing he's ever heard. I believe him. Robert Plant has a cool haircut compared to other lions.

yeah the tambourine playing is damn good

if more people don't appreciate i'm gonna be pretty upset with DiS. Even just a "Yeah i've heard it and I won't pretend that because there are no synths it's the most offensive and backward thing i've ever heard"

'The best tambourine ever'?

Isn't that a bit like 'the best white lines on a road ever', or 'the best third button down on a shirt ever'?

(other points: I've not heard the album

just seen that monumentally terrible telly advert that they had. Which put me off this album for life. Also, I have Robert Plant's autograph from when I saw him in a boozer in Kidderminster once. Good times).

Maybe

if you haven't heard a master tambourinist. Tambourinerer?

To be honest, my knowledge of the tambourine

goes no further than Liam Gallagher and Dean Eaton, year 6, Pennine Way Junior School.

Yeah

that guy's a novice. And Liam Gallagher wears it around his neck ferchrissakes! The tambouriner on this record is probably the kind that Sting has flown in from some far flung land. The kind who's spent his life trying to be the best in the world at tambourine.

Now, I'm all for hobbies and that

But I can imagine my mother putting a stop to that particular pipedream from a very, very early age.

i have become increasingly interested to hear this album,

actually.

initially, when i say the adverts and things, i just turned channel or muted it with a simple "BORING!" i don't know why - probably because they aren't young, or new, or fascinating or something. i didn't fancy them, or want to be them enough to pay attention.

but now that i've heard some people talking about how good the record actually is and having heard some extracts of songs, i feel ashamed at my own snobbery. well, not even snobbery. my dad is an alison krauss fan and i've enjoyed listening to her voice whenever he's played her record...

i don't even know what i'm saying now. i'd just like to give this record a proper listen to appreciate it.

Yeah it's really really good

I have to admit, i did hear it because my dad bought it, but i'm really not bothered about that. Without trying to warrant a "hilarious" Guntrip post parodying people who talk about "proper tunes", it really is full of well written and performed songs, the absence of which on DiS is what angers me most about it. People really don't seem to be bothered about subtlety or turn their nose up at anything that they can't namecheck as being "the hottest" or "most progressive" thing around at the moment.

yeah download it or something cos its nice.

The only thing I heard by Alison Krauss

is this beautiful song called It Doesn't Matter... nothing else.

Just that.

me too!

on buffy innit.

I was afraid to buy it

cause I liked "The Mighty Rearranger" so much and my Wife and I drove out to Portland to see him with the Strange Sensation which was so incredible that I didn't want to blow the high.

from what i've heard

it's really rather good. yeah, it's in no way groundbreaking but it seems an enjoyable listen

A very good album indeed

The musicianship, the harmonies.... t'is simply a very well-crafted album.

An absolutely wonderful record

Opinions that deviate from the ruling zeitgeist always aggravate the crowd

Raising Sand etc

It's ok, music for grownups....
It's also supposed to be the reason why Led Zeppelin arent touring - RP wanted to tour with Alison Kraus and promote the record.

I.E. I hate it with a passion.
Cos I went in for the 02 lottery and didn't get tickets.
I went round saying "of course it's not really Zep" but it still hurt.

Saw them on Jools or something.

They were brill.

woah

It is really lovely

but my Dad has nicked my copy for the car. Bastard.

The production on it is brilliant, you can hear every little detail and nothing sounds overdone or forced.

i know

i've listened to it since making this thread and have decided I like it more than just a little. It's really wonderful.

They are definitely grown ups/married couples music though. They've got "getaway tickets" where you get to go to a RP/AK show, sit somewhere in the front few rows, be driven there and get an "exclusive tour merchandise item".

The cost? $1600 dollars. Sheesh.
